Rollicking and of the time, superbly, especially in a nickleodeon. or any 1910 theatre for motion pictures. Hell yeah!

Mais qu'est-ce qu'il a l'air prétentieux, même dans son jeu ! et cette façon de toujours regarder les auditeurs comme s'il avait un tic.

What is his obsession about playing ragtime music at a breakneck gallop? The Rags lose all of their amazing 'feel' when that is done to them. Rags are based on the cakewalk, and the cakewalk is a stately dance, at walking speed. It's akin to playing the Wedding March at running speed.
Most telling of all is Scott Joplin's annotation to 'Search-Light Rag' and 'The Nonpareil', and others, where he says, 'Notice: Do not play this piece fast. It is never right to play "Ragtime" fast.' Joplin was the father of the Rag, so, if anyone did, he knew what the music should sound like, and how it was used.
There was obviously a temptation for pianists to play the music without feeling and grandeur, even in 1900. That's why he kept marking his scores with comments such as, 'Tempo di Marcia', 'Andante', 'Moderato', 'Not fast', 'Not too fast', 'Play a little slow', 'Slow', 'Slow march time', and 'Slow march'.
Playing Ragtime as if the music is a race to finish before the beer runs out is ruining the experience for everyone, and doing the original composers a great disservice.

You are entitled to your opinion but in mine, if musicians didn’t feel the right to interpret music of the past in a new way, we’d still be stuck in the Cake Walk era. There would be no Glenn Gould, Liberace, no one would have jazzed up old standards, and everyone would still be playing the Maple Leaf rag all exactly the same so why bother? I say thank God for people like Adam who keep Ragtime alive and vibrant. I am sure Joplin, Johnson, Scott and Lamb are clapping up in Heaven. And he must be pleasing folks since he won this contest more times than anyone else. PS the real Cake Walk wasn't all that stately but rather sarcastic.

@@lorettabigg8513 I agree. he is in full command of the tempo he has chosen. Slow can be good of course. So can fast
