in this video we discuss new york fashion week, nyfw, milan, paris, and london fashion shows. Brands mentioned: CDG, Comme Des Garcons, Rick Owens, Raf Simons, Helmut Lang, Maison Margiela, Yohji Yamamoto, Jil Sander, antwerp 6, Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Baleniaga, Number Nine, Vetements, Jun Takahashi Undercover Хобби
Great Video, my advice for young designers should be to not care about showing at fashion week for the first few seasons. I’ve seen it cause bankruptcy for so many young designers. Peter Do did it the right way where he didn’t start doing shows until the brand had become a bit established.
Definitely advisable to try and have a show room for buyers during fashion week (especially Paris if you can afford it) I think that is the best way to spend your money as a young designer.
On point. Fashion weeks should no longer be the best way to present a designer's work, those 15-20 minute parades never really show the beauty of the creations. fashion shows, no matter their conceptualization just doesn't help that much, it looks outdated. better to present an online lookbook, pinpointing on the fabrication, workmanship, details upclose... better to focus on the clothes and less carbon footprint.
Anyone else finding new videos and content in general regarding fashion are negative.
what do you mean?
@@meucanal9582 videos are titled you suck at this or why this sucks etc.
As someone within the system, it isn’t because people are being negative it is because people are being honest, and were not for a very long time
It’s because fashion is predicated on insecurity. ‘I regret buying these items’ and ‘These trends died this year’ are great examples.
People are want to fit in and don’t want to be ‘caught’ making those mistakes that fashion content creators are reverberating.
It’s to get clicks cause they kno it’ll serve as controversial
'This is why YOU suck at fashion week'
Fashionelitist title
The only thing I would say as a buyer for a smaller boutique it is incredibly informative seeing the clothing in person in the showrooms. Fashion shows are there to tell the story and it’s important but without touching the clothes and discovering brands while at one of the major cities some brands wouldn’t be able to grow as quickly as they do. It’s hard to justify spending 10k on a new brand when you may have never felt the quality/craftsmanship is hard to justify to store owners haha
Yeah the video implies that you can just do this online. I would not be risking my business on some pictures online or interactive tours of the clothes.
I think the perfect solution across all the fashion world is for a mass slowdown in releases. A mass slow down will make more time for. Designers too make more collections with true pieces and fast fashion to lower its rate in releases
Great video Karsten, the gritty footage of the horrors of World War 2 really added to the vibe 👍
I've been to fashion week in NYC and it does have it's ups and downs, both on brands and on the people you'd like to make connections with.
Some people don't really wanna make connections with you, they just want you to follow them to get an extra follower. A lot of people that attends there try to be fake rich, you'd be surprised, it'd be the lowkey ones that are the ones at the top.
Writers (me) get the lower end of the stick to SOME of the invites, where they'll have us stand all the way in the back w shitty views. Now I'm not saying they should make us writers priority but if you want us to promote your brand and write a piece about it, shit at least give us a decent seat.
Some brands don't even prepare their shows as well as you'd think, like Dion Lee did terrible this year.
And I agree there are too many shows for such a short week.
Ex model here. Fashion shows are much, much less stressful being a model than being in the audience.
Really great output lately Karsten, keep it up!
If I have one critique that would make these already very good videos even more amazing it would be to maybe zoom out further and try to look at the female side a little more. I know your background and interest is in mens fashion, art, fragrances but I think with slight changes (but same topics) you could reach a much broader audience, it feels as if you are mainly talking to men. Also you are cute enough to make the ladies listen even more!!
All your videos I’ve seen are intensely amazing. Actual work and critical thought instead of mindless AI readings! ❤🎉
Time stamp for the runway shows shown ?
that hoodie is the alt archive version of the Marni Grinch sweater
It’s Givenchy
Who's the cover by at the end? Please, thanks.
The critique of the corporate nature of fashion needed saying. True of other commerce too.
Ok my question is why don’t they start there own clothing brand then build up there collection over time. They’ll learn how to do business as they grow, they’ll get experience on how to do business and have full control over there body of work, so they’ll eliminate even having stockist cuz there brand will be growing in money overtime. And they can create there own fashion shows. And it doesn’t even have to be big or fancy either.
It’s a much slower process but it’s definitely better over time and put wayyyy less stress on the person. And they can hire and Create there own marketing team or team in general, they can rent out warehouses that stores there stuff. And they can focus on the designs and there actual body of work easier
i think we have to give credit to designers/ team who can put out collections year in year out. i think fashion really needs to slow down. dontknow how but at this stage, we can definitely cherish the designs more if it were presented in a lesser cycle.
All I saw from NYFW was that gay man yelling at that Canadian influencer about getting fuxxed by genetics probs bc nothing interesting happened this year other than that
IMHO, I think WE DO have wayyyyy too many ppl trying to be designers now like its an overload problem when everyone is trying to do the same thing. Whatever happened to just being an electrician or a chef or something? So sick of the internet copy + paste vulture mindset
Maybe narcissism? Everyone thinks they are extremely gifted and uniquely talented and social media validates them. They want the glory, money, and the easy life they think comes from it (even though they are wrong because it is very hard.) I agree with you, everything is oversaturated and it is boring at this point.
@@Flowergirl222 yeah it doesnt help that everyone is putting on a performance for when cameras are around. Shit drives me insane. Is this the real you or the online persona you? Whatever happened to just being a real mf
Shout out to those Evangelion jackets
I wish i could find someone who is designer and makes Formal Suits, as someone obssed with formal, everytime im out of hom i dress in suit, so i could be a good walking AD for a brand , lol.
Amazing informative video, thank you
ID hoodie?
WOW ! I did not know that There should be a alternative Fashion week.
500 vlone hoodies is crazy
GREAT VIDEO!!
You could say conglomerates exploit up & coming talent. But the thing is creating production, supply & logistics chains is hard. It takes a lot of investment to get a factory that can churn out product and get it to a location by a set date. How do young up & coming designers do that? Answer is they cant. How much of the stuff we enjoy in the world exists cos of boring investment & capital? It’s just coordinating factors of production & getting it to stores or to our doorstep. Designers get what seems like a raw deal, but without this infrastructure, their creative ideas can’t be brought to life for us as consumers.
oh my god no way: global system which pervades every aspect of everything sustains itself by pervading every aspect of everything??? also please don’t assume that we are all dumb and havent thought the same things as you thanks
Had no idea about the terrible system that is fashion week 😮
LA also has a Fashion Week… surprisingly its not considered one of the best! In spite of the Hollywood scene

honestly fashion week is and will always be cringe. if its not crnge its not done right. we see the internet and the goats of our now current ethos but the platform is set and we are at a completely new stage in fashion. at one point the twice a year was a thing but now designers go just to reference/copy whats new and in motion. the fashion show is a gift and a curse because right now they dont mean what they use to. new cities have to open the gates and show out for the city to be accepted as fashion.
Informative, nice
Great video
its normal bro, its NY fw
nyfw: big bank take little bank
Yeah

waitttt sooo you standing in the bleacher seats, talking like you playing in the game. dis cray. Implying seeing garments on the internet is a comparable way to view fashion is also cray. Damnnn that's like saying seeing paintings online is the same as seeing them in person. Viewing fashion from the lens of journalists and stockists is also silly.
who said it was comparable?? and why do you think it’s silly to view fashion from those lenses? dude didn’t even talk much about journalists, and please tell me you understand how market forces dictate a lot of fashion ??? like fashion is not some abstract unsullied ideal…it’s subject to reality
are you seriously advocating for metaverse fashion shows?
have you ever been to a live fashion show??? has the majority of people ever been to a live fashion show??
it sucks for the indie designers but stockists are ultimately protecting their bottom line
why do you say “but” as if protecting the bottom line morally outweighs stifling independent expression??
cant really compare music and fashion in that way
could you explain this a bit more? I don't really agree with you, but it seems to be interesting and maybe worth explaining:)
bro why do you have so many haters lol
Because what I am saying is slightly challenging, and to people who have interest or appreciate that tradition it feels upsetting to them. Which is alright.
@@karstenkroening anytime u think or act different than the majority, u are going to get hate. dats just human nature.
