This is a hidden gem, absolutely. The backing vocals are incredible as always, Benny and his synths strike again. Super Trouper is a very solid album because of songs like this. They definitely had that 80s sound already mastered when the decade was just starting, then again ABBA was ahead of their time in many aspects. I think you should react to Hey, Hey, Helen, Watchout or Lovelight next.
Lovelight is nice. It was a b-side too. And because of that I hadn't heard it till I bought More Abba Gold. They had seemed like there was still a light-hearted joy left in their relationships and songs before their relationships started to dwindle and were expressed through their songs. Their songs were just as brilliant, yet their was little joy there toward the end, as seen through songs like When all is said and done, One of Us and Undet Attack. Lovelight was recorded during the Voules-Vous Album, before things took a Rocky turn in both their relationships.
And that's why singles were quite exiting back in the day.. you'd never know what's there on the B-side 😉 "Elaine' was the B-side to 'The Winner Takes It All' ...have you ever heard 'Medley: Pick a Bale of Cotton/On Top Of Old Smokey/Midnight Special', that was on the B-side of 'SummerNightCity', and it's become one of ABBA's most oddities out there, especialyy because they are not ABBA originals, but songs covered by ABBA! Also 'You Owe Me One', which was the B-side to 'Under Attack' 'Lovelight' is there on the B-side of 'Chiquitita', 'Happy Hawaii' is the B-side of 'Knowing Me, Knowing You', as is 'Cassandra' of 'The Day Before You Came', to mention but a few you may never have heard of before, and maybe want to check out over here on RUclips!? And if you want to hear something mindblowing, may I suggest ABBA-'Undeleted', which is a mix of songs they've never completed and was released on the 'Thank You For The Music'-Box-Set.. have fun 👍👍
Honestly one of my favs, such a hidden gem. So catchy and the lyrics is so ominous even though the song sounds so upbeat. It's kind of experimental too. Love it.
I've been waiting for you to hit this !!! ( Do you like how I worked in an ABBA song title there ? 😉 ).. It's in my very top handful of ABBA songs .. Just love it ! .. And when you think this was the B side to "The Winner Takes It All", I reckon that has got to be one of the best A&B side combo singles of all time !
Great reaction as always guys - love seeing your faces at all the little surprises and key changes 🥰 looking forward to you hitting Head Over Heels, Tiger and I have a Dream
Your reactions to the legendary band are very fun.. but you still have more to discover. Try them live, they are spectacular - ``Kisses of fire'', ``Tiger'', ``Dance (while the music'') or the impressive ``The Way old Friends do'', on Wembley Arena.
I loved the photo you chose for the utube presentation.Twas from 1977,Agnetha was pregnant while doing that photo session, leaning distinctively towards Frida in order to be partly covered. They are so beautiful.
The pre chorus I love. I always forget how much I enjoy the opening. And the streets is narrow! Edit, scratch that. I love how it builds and th finish. It seems I somehow forget how good it is everytime I listen. It is enchanting.
I search fot this song for a while because i heard it once in a party and Dance to it , it was the closest thing to modern pop even techno i hear when i was a kid . Makes you happy to hear it.
I have always been amazed by the modesty and quiet lifestyle of these talented musicians. In 50 years of knowing them, I have never heard of any scandals, orgies, drinking bouts or drug addiction. Just an example of decency and hard work.❤❤❤
You should listen to "Kisses of fire" from them I just discovered this song yesterday and it's instantly one of my favourites! Im sure you gonna love it ^^
Marisa & Tyler, so nice to see you again in our ABBA Journey "Elaine" (1980) is a B-side to the wonderful single "The winner takes it all" but finally not included in "Super trouper" album in my opinion is acceptable, 6pts but not much more, not in my favourites ABBA have much better songs and much better B-side singles too, like I've been waiting for you (of So long 1974) Intermezzo No 1 (of Mamma Mía 1975) That's me (of Dancing Queen 1976) I hope that, for next ABBA reactions, was the time to really géms: "People need love" (Ring Ring album 1973, but first ABBA single in 1972) "Bang a Boomerang" (ABBA album 1975) "Tiger" (Arrival album 1976) I wish you a great week My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
B+ nice score! Loved Tyler breaking the fourth wall with his coy look at the camera making sure his hair was ok! There is a goosebump part to this song at 2.34 where the girls' vocals: "ahhhhh," Is just heavenly. This song reminds me of Summer Night City and maybe Honey Honey as the structure is all blurred as there is no defined verse, chorus etc, it's all a bit mixed up, which adds to the nightmare scenario Elaine is experiencing. It's difficult to think what you have to react now! Maybe He Is Your Brother, but I'd definitely do the live version from 1977 as it's faithful to the recorded version but has much more passion. Or If It Wasn't For The Nights which is a fan favourite. Dum Dum Diddle is a cute little song with a killer melody, again the live version on a tv show called Abba Dabba Doo shows Abba's professionalism, craft and talent, with Frida and Agnetha's harmonies taking you to another world. Good video guys, take care.
Yes thats what all abba fans have been saying all this time, this and many hidden gems are people sleeping on. Super trouper has a great sound. A top album but I think i like the more experimental synths on the visitors. On the other hand I am the city, you owe me one, under attack, cassandra, the day before you came. Those were tracks meant to be for a brand new abba album from 1982 that was never completed and those tracks were added as bonus to the visitors and people are sleeping on them too lol
This track always felt like the experimental track from the Super Trouper recordings where Benny was determined to see exactly what sort of synth sound he could create and really let rip. I do like the very real clash between the positive, upbeat music and the quite macabre lyrics as well.
Yes I just read the lyrics for the first time and it's a little bit crazy - sort of similar to the Visitors but instead of waiting for the visitors to come to her house Elaine is taking the visitors with her on her daily walk - crazy but fun as only ABBA can do.
I liked the energy, vocals, and arrangements on this one. If they layered in some fuzzy guitars, it would've been even better. Still, it's underrated, and has great lyrics telling the story of being trapped and under observation "you're like a goldfish in a bowl"...."nowhere to go" ..."by now they know the pattern" etc. I would've preferred this was included on 'Super Trouper' over 'The Way Old Friends Do' or 'Andante Andante'.
Listen to " my mama said off Waterloo.. a bit like hey helen...also " so long .. + hole in your soul......I'm a marionette... + abba udeleted ..a collection of tunes...some used some not...abba having fun in studio .. has original version of " just a notion " and other nearly complete songs 🎵 such as" givin a little bit more "& " rubber ball man ⛹️♀️.. + outakes of many others .. also " I am the city " white sombrero " and DREAM WORLD 🌎. ALSO "CRYING OVER YOU..." ENJOY.. 🌈💚🐾😇 MICKEE AND TAFFY MY FAITHFUL HOUND 🌈💚🐾😇XX.
That one always left me torn.. it’s a strange combination of really wicked energetic and catchy and yet it’s b side material… and not quiet the level of other album tracks like Our Last Summer or If it Wasn’t For The Nights etc. So it didn’t even made on the album… so of a verdict by Benny and Björn…
that initial synth part, the "wah waaah" Tyler mentioned, sounds familiar...like the one in Me and I, or On and On and On, but in a different key? 🤔tempo faster than either one, though...that's like techno-rave or speed metal bpm, which is unusual for an ABBA song, as most of their songs are danceable 🎵
You keep avoiding some good bangers such as early hits HONEY HONEY,Bang A Boomerang,Ring Ring,or even Kissesof Fire that people keep asking insistently.Come on give them a chance!
Problem is I think they do a few reactions on the same day (Marissa asked Tyler what other song they had listened to today - then she remembered the title Another Town...) so it might look like they're avoiding responding to song requests but it looks like there's a time lag created by them reacting and recording 2 (or more) on one day and not recording new reactions until several days or weeks later 🤔.
Not a hidden gem for me and for those who are big ABBA fan, yeah maybe for those who have recently started listening to ABBA...........love this song and been listening to it since early 80's
A b side only track and omitted from the original release of Super Trouper. Only include on subsequent extended editions. An OK track. They thought so too in that they omitted it from the Album. 5/10 on the Abba scale of rating partly because the synth sounds annoy me.
The song was not on Super Trouper back in 1980… just like Lovelight and Should I Laugh Or Cry, Happy Hawaii, Crazy World, I wonder and Take A Chance On Me live versions… weren’t on any album release originally…
This is a hidden gem, absolutely. The backing vocals are incredible as always, Benny and his synths strike again. Super Trouper is a very solid album because of songs like this. I think they will love Lovelight!
@@bobtrouper so good
Lovelight is nice. It was a b-side too. And because of that I hadn't heard it till I bought More Abba Gold. Loveligt is just as amazing as Elaine
Elaine even never was on Super Trouper. It was only a B-side.
Another B side of theirs heavy on synths is "Should I Laugh or Cry" check it out, one of my favs
This is one of the finest examples of ABBA's "third voice!"
Amazing...at age 67 and owning every ABBA album on vinyl, but no singles, I've never heard 'Elaine' before in my life!
And that's why singles were quite exiting back in the day.. you'd never know what's there on the B-side 😉
"Elaine' was the B-side to 'The Winner Takes It All' ...have you ever heard 'Medley: Pick a Bale of Cotton/On Top Of Old Smokey/Midnight Special',

ABBA-'Undeleted', which is a mix of songs they've never completed and was released on the 'Thank You For The Music'-Box-Set.. have fun 👍👍
Please listen to 'Should I laugh or cry'. Another great non-album track.
YES !!!!
YES!!!!
Great track! A real grower
Honestly one of my favs, such a hidden gem. So catchy and the lyrics is so ominous even though the song sounds so upbeat. It's kind of experimental too. Love it.
So underappreciated and so good! This song deserved much, much better!
Was the B side of The Winner Takes It All. Two completely different sounds showing yet again the ABBA range. Powerful single release.
I've been waiting for you to hit this !!! ( Do you like how I worked in an ABBA song title there ? 😉 ).. It's in my very top handful of ABBA songs .. Just love it ! .. Not bad for a B-side.
One more hidden gem, so many of them. A suggestion for the next ABBA song: Dance (While The Music Still Goes On) from the Waterloo album 1974.
One of my favourite early ABBA tracks! Such a great song! Insanely catchy
Interesting track. Greetings from Germany.
They have your mind, they'll take your soul. This is a great song.
Just an example of decency and hard work.❤❤❤
This is one of ABBA's "nerdiest" songs and it definitely has a soft spot
You should listen to "Kisses of fire" from them I just discovered this song yesterday and it's instantly one of my favourites! Im sure you gonna love it ^^
This song brings back so many happy memories from my childhood 😊
Thank you for bringing me down memory lane! 🥰
I knew you guys would like this one. A couple more Abba hidden gems: Happy Hawaii, Man In the Middle
I Think they did HH(audio not the cARTtoon video),but not 'Why did it have to be me'(its alternate version that finally got released in ARRIVAL).
What a banger 😍
ABBA are the greatest!!!
I do I do I do - Honey honey -
Wach it - gonna sing you a lovesong
Marisa & Tyler, so nice to see you again in our ABBA Journey
"Elaine" (1980)
is a B-side to the wonderful single
"The winner takes it all"
but finally not included in
"Super trouper" album
in my opinion is acceptable, 6pts
but not much more, not in my favourites
ABBA have much better songs
and much better B-side singles too, like
I've been waiting for you (of So long 1974)
Intermezzo No 1 (of Mamma Mía 1975)
That's me (of Dancing Queen 1976)
I hope that, for next ABBA reactions,
was the time to really géms:
"People need love" (Ring Ring album 1973, but first ABBA single in 1972)
"Bang a Boomerang" (ABBA album 1975)
"Tiger" (Arrival album 1976)
I wish you a great week
My best regards from

Another song recorded during this period that isn't on Super Trouper is Put On Your White Sombrero. Do listen that firecracker of a song.
B+ nice score! Loved Tyler breaking the fourth wall with his coy look at the camera making sure his hair was ok!
There is a goosebump part to this song at 2.34 where the girls' vocals: "ahhhhh,"

One of my fav b side tracks alongside lovelight

The b-sides should I laugh or cry and cassandra are pretty epic
Please de Next reaction: NINA PRETTY BALLERINA.... 🙏😉
I've almost never heard this one, but it wasn't for me. How could everything from that broad repertoir be, though? Glad it hit home for you anyway. 😊
Have you done? Should I laugh or cry yet? Love that song.
Yay ❤
You keep avoiding some good bangers such as early hits HONEY HONEY,Bang A Boomerang,Ring Ring,or even Kissesof Fire that people keep asking insistently.Come on give them a chance!
Totally agree
Problem is I think they do a few reactions on the same day (Marissa asked Tyler what other song they had listened to today - then she remembered the title Another Town...) so it might look like they're avoiding responding to song requests but it looks like there's a time lag created by them reacting and recording 2 (or more) on one day and not recording new reactions
until several days or weeks later 🤔.
Bang-a-boomerang is one of my early favs, largely due to the high-spirited video attached to it. They all look soooo pretty and happy. Ahhhhh!
Just Do It!
👍🍾🥳
Not a hidden gem for me and for those who are big ABBA fan, yeah maybe for those who have recently started listening to ABBA...........love this song and been listening to it since early 80's
LONDON U.K
Song I think is about a working street girl .. getting raped / attacked .. but it's all just part of her LIFE .. STUCK IN A SLEAZY RUT. ?. 🌈💚😇🐾
Where's that from? I've heard versions of Elaine before but that seems to be the most complete version I've ever heard.
That’s the only version of the song
It's the version which is now at the Super Trouper album. Don't know if there are others, I know only this version.
I still got the original single of 'The Winner...' and this is the b' side. All i hear is the same version.
@@Lisa-M Its probably just me then.
@@JF-sh2sm Perhaps its just how I heard it this time.
What happened to the aftershow?
coming today sorry!! busy day yesterday for me
A very fast tempo, stutter effects, long before it was hip,try to play that as a band in your Proberaum it’s impossible
Thanks, thanks for share, 🤍🤍🙏🏻🙏🏻
In a opportunity try please with song Lovelight 😃
Have a good time, enjoy and take care please.
