In the Hong Kong Bruce Lee collection special edition it shows Dan Inosanto giving instructions and teaching simple Kali self defense moves reminding people Jeet Kune Do was an adaption of martial arts to improve ones already learned martial arts( probably an over simplification on my part).
Dan Inosanto 2 years ago came to our jeet kune do studio in NY, over 80 and he was quicker than everyone there including all our instructors. It is insane how gifted he is still.
Master Dan is still with us and still teaching! A few years ago I had the great pleasure of spending an evening training with Dan and some of his instructors. It was awesome. I would highly recommend it to anybody who might get the chance or is spending time in Los Angeles. It would have been worth the price of admission even without the physical training, just listening to his stories. So much experience, knowledge and insight.

Bruce used a lot of epee/small sword techniques with the bamboo stick, in my opinion. That’s why I was disappointed when he switched to the nunchucks. It would have been great to see two distinctly different styles against each other. But then, Bruce wouldn’t have displayed his mastery of the nunchucks had he not switched.
Fun scene. On foam chucks, in the beginning of the fight when Bruce first holds them, they bend in his grip. Pretty funny when you see it and can't un-see it. Nice that they took that precaution, though, I'd guess even knowing a strike was coming may not be enough to dodge with those 2 wielding them!!
They may have made it that way. Bruce was known for f'ing people up on set. It made Jackie Chan's career. Bruce hurt him on set and he was moved up to a featured stunt man going forward.
dude, they were using real nunchucks. it was just thinly coated with rubber foam. it's just that they were training chucks, but they're still the real thing. come on, why would Dan and Bruce use some cheap foam toys for when they are already experts with the real thing.

I had the privilege to see Paul Vunak back in the 90s for jkd. Being a BL fan it was an honor to take the seminar with Paul. I did take pictures with him but cant find those photos at the moment. It was so long ago
Guro Inosanto is still alive and conducting seminars (when there's not a pandemic, anyway). He's an amazing ball of energy, knowledge, and enthusiasm at age 84. Oh, and he still trains in new styles and techniques; he earned his black belt in BJJ at age 70, and now he's learning capoiera.
He was actually a student of Bruce's before the scene was shot. These scenes were shot in Hong Kong before Bruce stopped filming Game of Death. He only shot the pagoda scenes where he fights 3 men. You can find the "Lost Footage" of these scenes that was found after a long time missing. Although some of it was lost to the ravages of time.
The green stick was a stiff whip, similar to a riding crop. I believe in a previous scene he used it as a metaphor for martial artists who are flexible in their fighting style, and not stiff with tradition. Also, when I was taught how to use nunchucks years ago I was taught to hold them close to the rope or chain, not by the ends like both of these guys did. It could be a regional difference or style difference, but it always looks weird to me how he holds them!

That's because you can swing them much faster by holding them at that point on the holding shaft. The nunchaku is actually a "reach" weapon though, and if you've been taught how to wield them properly then you can utilise the whole of the just-less-than-a metre weapon. If you hold the nunchaku by the base of the shaft then you have a weapon as long as your average sword or Kali stick. If you need to use them in CQC then you can switch and quickly hold them in a backhand grip (which Dan Inosanto taught Bruce Lee to do here and we see it in the "show-off" routines).
My personal opinion is Bruce Lee is a martial arts prophet. He was ahead of his time. Even today in 2021 no one has his extraordinary abilities. He said back in the early 1970s in a karate magazine, he see no one doing what he can do.

First Bruce Lee movie I ever saw was A Warriors Journey which showed the Game of Death fights uncut. So these fight scenes were the first times I ever got to see. And the stick is a bamboo whip, the symbolism was to show how flexible it and he is. Where Dan has a series of rehearsed routines that couldn't adapt.
The stick bruce lee was using is made of bamboo. In the uncut version of this fight scene bruce basically told dan he needed to be flexible like this bamboo. Bruce started this movie then stopped filming game of death when he got the green light to do enter the dragon. So that is why there are only a few fight scenes for this film. The uncut version is way longer and he had 2 other characters involved helping him fight the bad guys. There were fight scenes filmed outside but the footage got damaged and was lost. There are photos of the fight scene though. Bruce is outside in a field shirtless with just black pants and shoes on. Holding a pair of nunchaku fighting other martial artists. Even in the uncut version they started the fight scene on the second floor of the pagoda. Bruce's character and 2 other martial artists with him were suppose to fight their way up to the top of the pagoda. The first floor of the pagoda was suppose to be 3 against 30.
One of the other fighters was played by James Tien, who had previously worked with Bruce Lee on the Big Boss. He also fought Kareem Abdul Jabbar in one scene. The fight was actually kept in the American Version of Game of Death, and was shown briefly near the beginning of the film.

Bruce stopped working on Game of Death to do Enter The Dragon. He shot a lot of Pagoda fight footage. A lot of it didn't make it into that crapfest Game of Death. There is still much footage missing from this scene.
Game of Death was put on hold due to the production, And making of Enter The Dragon! All of the original fight scenes were done beforehand . The Script was restructured after BrucE Lee’s death. Dan Inosanto taught Lee how to use the NunChuk’s !

He was 100% an amazing martial artist nobody can seriously deny that. My problem is when people say he was the greatest FIGHTER of all time. There has been 50 years of innovation since he was around. If he was here now maybe a different story, who knows? But to deny his skill entirely because he was an actor, or people thinking that because someone says he wasn't the greatest fighter of all time that that means they are discounting him entirely is just ridiculous. This was a really great fight scene. Check out Way Of The Dragon (aka Return Of The Dragon) Many great fight scenes in this one. My favorite one is the alley fight against the Italian Mafia thugs. He uses nunchucks, staff and his bare hands to dismantle probably a dozen or so jabrones, LOL 😂😂😂
Viewing the fight scenes from that movie in isolation is probably the best way to do it. One day I thought that since this was the only Bruce Lee film I hadn't seen, it would be good to watch it through... Wrong! Got through about 15 minutes and it was just too unbearably bad; they were literally putting a picture of Bruce's face over the substitute actor to make a scene without him... truly awful! 😖

Yes he was. I don't agree when people say he was the greatest fighter of all time but you can't discount his contribution to martial arts on the whole. There have been 50 years of innovation in martial arts since he was around. If we had never made improvements in those years we would have failed all of his philosophy and all of his teachings about taking what works and throwing away what doesn't. I love how the second anyone says anything about him not being the greatest people assume you are trying to say he was shit. He wasn't, obviously he was incredible at what he did and had an amazing mind. Doesn't change the fact that if you threw him into the UFC or a Muay Thai ring with a current era fighter he would more than likely lose. That doesn't detract from his legacy, even the greatest fighters of all time have losses. If he had been around now, and had an inspirational figure like he himself was to so many in the 70's and since, then who knows what would have happened, but we will never know that.

Check out Way Of The Dragon (aka Return Of The Dragon) Many great fight scenes in this one. My favorite one is the alley fight against the Italian Mafia thugs. He uses nunchucks, staff and his bare hands to dismantle probably a dozen or so jabrones, LOL 😂😂😂

Yes he was. I don't agree when people say he was the greatest fighter of all time but you can't discount his contribution to martial arts on the whole. More people got into martial arts because of him than almost anybody else. Also his philosophies did drive a lot of change in the world of martial arts.

@@619DioFan I wasn't taking anything anyway from his skills. But saying that he is the greatest fighter ever is just not true. There have been 50 years of innovation in martial arts since he was around. If we had never made improvements in those years we would have failed all of his philosophy and all of his teachings about taking what works and throwing away what doesn't.
I love how the second anyone says anything about him not being the greatest people assume you are trying to say he was shit. He wasn't, obviously he was incredible at what he did and had an amazing mind. Doesn't change the fact that if you threw him into the UFC or a Muay Thai ring with a current era fighter he would more than likely lose. That doesn't detract from his legacy, even the greatest fighters of all time have losses.
If he had been around now, and had an inspirational figure like he himself was to so many in the 70's and since, then who knows what would have happened, but we will never know that.
