The Black Hills and the Badlands have always been a special place for me. When I was younger and stupid and had everything I owned stuffed into my car to move out West, I stopped at the Badlands, and that's where the magnitude of what I was doing hit me. The prairies are so open that they almost force you to fill them with your own emotions. I felt like I poured my heart into those hills. But they get overlooked a lot because they're not as openly inviting as the mountains and forests. It's almost a shame, but at the same time that landscape has felt like my personal secret for years. I'm so happy to see you guys give this space the love it deserves.

WOW, that is so eloquently said and I think you will really like the next episode as it is really near and dear to us as we had a similar experience in the Badlands! It is such a wild, harsh, but special place that seems to infiltrate your soul

Its virtually impossible to find content ion RUclips that has serious environmental values and down to earth vibes. I appreciate the true nature of your videos and how real you both feel. It's refreshing to see individuals who are so human, so willing to show the world who you are. I am at awe with the scenery you capture. Looking at them speaks to my soul on a deeper level. Keep going, keep exploring, keep on keeping the vibe so real and down to earth.

The format is great with your custom advertising and still meeting sponsorship demand’s during your video, (both pros & cons). It is very refreshing that your videos don’t dwell on the latest and greatest, and gimmicks! Thank you!
The variety of activities on your adventures is incredible, and your attention to detail both large and small is very uniquely refreshing.
Your photography (both stills and video) is beyond all other back road or back country productions we follow!
The laid back (no dedicated deadline) schedule is also very refreshing and relaxing! It is a real go with the flow production of what you find along the way (from a new swimming hole, to a buffalo traffic jam.😂😅

I’ve been looking forward to this series and you both kept hitting home runs! We tried for several years to make late day tours of Wind Cave from our home in Lawrence, KS, always arriving after they’d sold out the day’s tickets! Argh! We did finally make the tour on our return trip from Waterton Lakes NP & Glacier NP back in 2016. Throughly enjoyed Custer and Wind Cave! I have to say I’m excited for the next episode as I’m guessing the Badlands has a similar effect on you as it did me. Awaking to photograph sunrise and hiking to a remote spot for sunset was worth every second! I sadly haven’t been back due to health issues but those are largely behind me so it’s time to plan an adventure!

If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend a visit to the Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in Oklahoma. It is 39,650 acres and is the largest remaining tallgrass prairie in the world, owned by The Nature Conservancy. There are approximately 2,500 bison on the preserve, located in north central Oklahoma. Sorry, no burrow, prairie dogs, or antelope but it is very cool to see the bison on that tallgrass prairie. Plus, there is no admission charge.

Beautiful footage, so well recorded and cut together, great work.
I must have missed you by a few days. I've been in the area from August 22nd to 25th. I remember the heat, I hiked through the badlands at around 106 degrees... Not the smartest idea ;-)
But later that evening I had an incredible night at the boondocking spot just outside the park north of the pinnacle entrance.
Unfortunately I didn't do Black Elk Peak but had a beautiful hike on the sunday gulch trail at sylvan lake. The black hills are a really, really special place.
The bison in Custer State Park have been the first I ever saw in my life. And I almost missed them. They were hiding deeply in the backcountry the day I visited and I had to drive a lot of backcountry roads to find them. But they have been so impressing when I found them
Looking forward to the next episodes. Safe travels.

This was filmed last summer long before the permits… and we are not filming without a permit… even though it’s a completely terrible rule that we really hope won’t stand for long

@@BoundForNowhere thank you so much for your quick reply. I spent a week in Arches Utah in February and had the place practically to myself but resisted the urge to film. A magnificent week lost really because I was alone. The filming regs are whack. Cheerio

Anyway to remove the Includes paid promotion tag taking up space in the video? So annoying!

5:44, "And that guy: not really sure what he's up to." It's called the Flehmen response. He's caught a whiff of a smell he really likes...probably a female.

You guys are outdoors enough where you should have the ability to make fire no matter what. Sorry to be that guy but, you really should know better. A day hike doesn't always stay a day hike, emergency equipment is for every time you step foot in the wilderness. Fire should be a redundancy, you should have several ways to start a fire, If you're going to vlog and inspire others (which you clearly do,) please rectify safety mistakes like this one.

Dang dude, just let them be. How many survival videos are on RUclips with trained experts going into the wild and 1 day in they realize they forgot something or the thing they brought to make fire isn't working. Have you seen Alone? This was a light morning hike, not a cross-country hike into the bush.

@@tidbit19 ok poser. a trained expert has redundancies, not one way of making fire. you're exactly who I'm talking about. You think it's "ok" to make mistakes because you saw some idiot do it on youtube.
