Most people don't know what the "bygone era" is as it comes to the El Camino. The last El Camino was dropped in either 87 or 88 If I recall correctly.. Too bad it is electric. I wish Ford would bring back the 1982 - 2011 Ranger without all that electronic crap.

I think that this is a vehicle that is needed at this time. There is a lot of single people who need a vehicle like this. Many a time I see people at appliance and furniture stores trying to figure out how to take their purchases home. Or moving from place to place and not have any way to take their stuff. This vehicle is a grand slam for Chevy, gasoline powered or electric.

As long as the new El Camino isn't based on an FWD or electric platform, I'm down for it. I use to have a '74 and a '77 Classic, both of which I had thoroughly enjoyed.
The original El Camino were RWD with L6 and V8 power until the 5th gen came out with V6 and V8 options until it's demise in 1987.
There have been a few concept designs since, but all have been shelved due budget cuts or chassis discontinuation.

Hydro combustion and the ammonia motor take off its all over for ev and Toyota is going for it. This is def another mistake for gm. The only ev company making real money is tesla. Combustion is still king. Time will tell what will take over or what will survive. The ev may survive. But for this to happen that power grid has to be built up and we don't have the supply for it.

I own a 1973 Chevy El Camino with a 454 big block engine that's in good condition. It was my uncle's Elco and he was the original owner. If they want to come out with a new one, it better be much like the sixties to early seventies models that have a healthy V8 under the hood. Otherwise, they are doing nothing but ruining the very reason people want new ones to be made. I love my classic Elco just the way it is. I don't want a computerized smog control nightmare. If they want to save the planet, they should stop screwing around with automobiles and start working on big business polluters instead. Leave our cars alone. We want the sixties and seventies back, we don't want the new El Caminos to be computerized smog control trouble makers that make us spend too much money trying to keep their darned smog control systems working. All I ever see where too much tech is concerned are people spending all their money trying to figure out what sensors out of too many of them are causing problems.

Agreed, we'd love to own a Montana, or the S-10 also sold everywhere but the US. GM's CEO ... "she just ain't that smart". 1st rule of business, fast quarters are better than slow to no dollars, which is where GM, Ford, etc are at right now. GM has stopped listening to their customers, I drove Chevy Astros for over 20 years, would love to own another new one, but noooooo, the soccer mama class wouldn't be caught dead in one, so no new Astro for you. Might be wrong, but I think Fred you gotta better chance at a late model "NASA Moon Rover" than a '24 Elco.

I was just searching online specifically for an electric El Camino, hoping that they might be working on one, and landed here. It's interesting to see so many folks in this thread saying they'd love one as long as it's not electric, haha. 😅
I'm certainly in the minority for this thread but I'm wondering what the general public would want. I'm not really a car guy but can imagine a) this car being a classic car for folks that are car people and b) this thread attracting comments from mostly car people.
Btw, no judgement on car people... I'm a music guy, everybody has their thing!
Lastly, while I'm hoping for an electric version (preferably one that looks somewhat close to the original), it's interesting reading through and hearing folks' different takes.

"Today's consumers demand all the new technical gadgets and gizmos such as driver assist and Bluetooth-type integration with our cell phones" you say? NOT this consumer. All that techno-wizardry is just distractions...and a way for the auto makers to charge more for their offerings. If it turns out that I can't get a new El Camino without all that added junk, I'll just keep my '07 Avalanche a few more years. And not have a car payment.

When I speak to other vehicle owners and those who lease, many do not even use anywhere near half the features that these vehicles offer. Just wasted expenses built into the vehicle

I seriously doubt that it will be all electric . Chevy is shutting down production of their electric vehicles just like ford has. They have a couple hurdles they need to clear. 1st make the base model affordable. Starting in the 30-40 range. Look at all the trucks sitting on dealer lots…60 grand +. 2nd it will need to NOT be an all electric. A lot of issues with cost to produce, added weight and lack of recycling .
Personally I can see a hybrid as a good appeal if not standard but an option along with an ICE counterpart.

If GM is smart, they'll make show it looks like the older style Chevy EL Camino, or no one well buy one.
Old style only. Dumbest thing GM did was do away with PONTIAC/ PMD It well not sell if it's the E/V
No one wants a fire trap V/E and no one can afford the Car insurance for one. Think about it.

And she makes millions to make this kind of decision? Wow! Just that and more junk from GM. Don’t get me wrong, great Idea, but how does this car fit in today? Other than for the enthusiasts people?

Better have an IC version available since the EV infrastructure needed is not here and will not be in the near future!

If you make it electric, you deserve what you get. GM should still have the HOLDEN HSV MALOO UTE from Australia, nobody loves their utes more then Australia

I've owned many bowtie badged V8 powered vehicles in my life time, and a couple of V6 later models.
In an EL Camino i would prefer a stout V8, but will accept nothing less than a V6.
    To hell with EVs!

The vast majority DO NOT want electric vehicles. They are junk & when the batteries go bad they cost almost as much as the car to replace. And then you have to pay to get rid of the old batteries.Just bring it back with a modern look but with true gas horsepower. No Bluetooth electronic screens.Just horsepower with 4 on the floor.

Forget it, if it’s going to be electric GM could keep it I don’t care how luxurious it’s going to be. I’m not going to sit at a charging station for an hour or more to keep this thing going. Again, another big GM mistake.
