A short video showing how to enter the Ride Height Trim Procedure on Magneride Active suspension equipped GM and GMC vehicles.
If any ride height sensors have been replaced on the vehicle a ride height trim calibration procedure is necessary.
This will 'zero' out the ride height sensors voltage associated with the zero travel suspension height.
Performed on a level surface following the prompts from the MaxiDAS.

Good video. I just had to replace my suspension control module in my 2015 Tahoe LTZ and I do have a scanner that can do the relearn procedure. Is that the only programming required if I replaced the module? Not sure if there is a flash or anything the dealer would need to do?

Please email us and we can help as we have a few questions.
If you ordered the SCM online (and it was programmed to your VIN) AND you are running OEM magneride then yes you will need to do the trim procedure.
If you ordered an SCM online from another junk yard vehicle, it will likely need to be programmed to your VIN before it will function properly in your vehicle. (we have never tried that)
We have helped a few customers replace their SCMs. We order a used SCM, program it to the latest firmware for their VIN then have them install it. (If they are bypassing the magneride there is no need for the trim procedure) If they are running OEM magneride then they will need to do the trim procedure for the magneride to function properly.
The correct way to install a new SCM is to have it programmed to your VIN via GM Tech Connect with a supported J2534 PassThru (Mongoose-Plus J2534 OEM Vehicle Interface Cable - GM OEM).
Then after it is installed you would need to perform the ride height trin procedure to learn your vehilce's normal ride height.

When performing this trim ride height relearn, how much fuel should be in the fuel tank? Also should there be no weight in the cabin area of the vehicle? Please let me know. Thank you!

If you are doing it with our ride height sensor simulators installed it doesn't matter because the voltage from the 'sensors' will be from our simulators (steady 2.5V) and not that actual ride height sensors.
If you are not bypassing the sensors, based on GM's technical instructions, half a tank and no 'extra' weight in the cabin.
Let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

So do you suggest i get a code reader to see if my magneride suspension is working properly before replacing them?

    • @xineering

Do you have active "Service Suspension" messages right now? If so, I would definitely get the DTCs read out of the SCM (Suspension control module) to make sure it is ONLY a shock/strut issue and not something else.

@@xineering Is there an easy way to diagnose the shocks themselves? Do any of the scanners provide any insight? Or is that limited to a DTC on the SCM?

    • @xineering
      @xineering  4 года назад

@@davidchapman1986 Scan tools only provide what current is being sent (mA) to the shocks and if there is an issue with the coil in the shock, the SCM would throw a "Signal Performance DTC (symptom byte $0D, $0E, or $1A) which means the current In/Out is our of tolerance. Most 'bad' shocks basically leak.
You could unplug the two pin connector from the shock (you will have a Service Suspension Message and 80 mph speed limiter while you do this) and drive around without the shock being acted upon by the SCM to determine how the shock is riding mechanically, without being told what to do by the SCM.

@@xineering Makes sense, thanks! I have one that appears to be leaking at the top of the air chamber (near the rubber band) which is abnormal to me but I don't have much exposure to these. But I suppose a leak is a leak :-) The other one appears as if it may have leaked a while ago and dried up as it has a ton of debris on it but its dry. While I likely will replace with OEM shocks, I do appreciate your response! 6 months ago I had a front strut go while at the dealer and found out why your product is so useful due to the economics. I may opt for it the next round!

Hope you can help. I have brand new OEM shocks all the way around and new compressor that works as it should. The truck extremely bouncy at low to medium speed, ie bump going into driveway bounces all over at low speed. Any ideas?

      Thanks for contacting us.
You can ride on your magneride shocks with them being electrically disconnected from the SCM (Suspension control module).
You can see how that will feel right now by unplugging the 2 pin connectors from the magneride shocks. You will get a service suspension message on the dash and an 84 mph speed limiter, 80 mph when cruise control is ON.
I would start with the two front struts, try it out.
Then move to the rears if your ride hasn't improved.
If your magneride struts/shocks aren't leaking they will probably ride a little softer, but definitely smoother overall. If they are starting to fail and/or leaking it will not be a very nice ride.
If you like how it rides, you can eliminate the messages with our bypass kit, depending on how many you corners you disconnected.

@@xineering Thank you very much for responding that is awesome. I will try the unplug of front shocks and see if anything different. I use to get speed limited every now and then at 80 or so but I don't think that has happened since I put in the new shocks. I will do the testing and let you know. Is there any reason the BCM would need reprogramming after new shocks?
      Thank you very much again

@@Patriot168 No BCM reprogramming would be needed for a shock replacement. However the Suspension Control Module (SCM) does have a 'trim' procedure to reprogram (calibrate) the ride height. So IF the ride height changed with the install of the new OEM magneride shocks it would be a good idea to perform the ride height trim procedure. This will 'zero' the new ride height sensor readings as the new ride height in the SCM (Suspension Control Module). The SCM will not send current to the shocks unless it is needed based on changes in ride height.
This can be done at a dealer, shop, or with our Loaner USB Scan Tool.
