I haven’t yet found a site that addresses the issue I have. For some reason, when I click and drag something, the cursor doesn’t let go. It keeps dragging the item around without dropping it. Typically, I click and hold an item to drag it, then let go to drop it. But letting go isn’t doing anything. I don’t think this is specific to one app: it’s happening on the desktop. I haven’t changed any settings or had a major update recently. This started after I took a screenshot of part of a reddit page (it’s relatively rare that I go on reddit). I did a scan via Malwarebytes, but it didn’t find anything suspicious. What do you suppose is happening? Is there a way to fix this? Edit: I turned off Chrome and disconnected from the wifi - in preparation of restarting the computer - and it resolved itself. I am happy yet confused. Tl;dr: my cursor can drag, but not drop things. This started after I took a screenshot on reddit (I seldom visit reddit). Malwarebytes didn’t find anything. Any ideas? Edit: never mind, it fixed itself.
02:27 suggestion "GO TO A SHORT SLEEP" worked for me. THEN...I just closed the screen down (like closing a book) - waited 10 sec. in 'sleep/transport' mode - open it up again....and VOILA. Now I can drag'n'drop again ;-) PS:I believe the "Option" key is a PC term: It's called "CTRL" on a Mac . Well, at least on my MBP 17" from 2011 ;-)
I didn't see anything that looked out of whack in my trackpad settings, but unchecking the "force click and haptic feedback" fixed my issue. No idea what that does but if it's causing issues with drag and drop I'm ok to lose it.
THANK YOU!! you're the savior of my laptop!! my drag and drop didn't work for a week now and i've been searching in youtube but all didnt work!! thank you so much!! btw the relaunch finder option worked for me!!
I found out what my problem was. A useless function called "quicklook" wad superseding clicking and dragging. So, whenever I tried to drag something, a stupid smaller version of the file would pop up on the screen and disallow me from dragging the file. To get rid of it press control + space, then type "trackpad" in the search box that pops up. Uncheck the box for Force click and Haptic feedback. It's the dumbest thing in the world. Literally, to activate this useless quicklook function, you have to click and hold (the same way you click and drag), Just the dumbest thing ever.
im having trouble opening a folder/ in favorites when i have grabbed something and hoover over the specific map or folder i want to drop it in. a few years ago you could just hoover on the specific map/folder, after a few seconds it opened by it self (like if you had clicked on it) and you could simply dropp the file/picture in the correct place. now i can only drop it in a folder, then go in to that folder afterwards and readjust the placement. this worked fine a couple of years ago, but has never worked good in a long time now. any suggestions?
Some people hate Macs but Mac Books are just like I am. Great at some things, bad at others. Plus, I don't have any issue recording and mixing my full productions on a Mac Book. Just a little bit of overheating which is normal when Im mixing a full song on Pro Tools lol
Dude this was helpful. however, I can't spring load from the downloads folder to the desktop folder. I can spring load from any other folders, but not back and forth with these two. Thoughts?
I can drag things but when I drop it, it won't stay in place where I want it. For instance, I want to drag a folder over the to the left side of my screen, and when I let go it swings back to the top right corner. How do I fix this? It doesn't work on my sisters MacBook Pro, either, and our Macs are 2020 and newer.
You might want to try the following: Right click on any area of the desktop, then click Show View Options, then uncheck Keep Arranged By, then uncheck Snap To Grid if you want. Then close View options. Please let us know if this solved your problem.

Mac High Sierra had drag and drop from web to desktop instantly, but Catalina seems to pause every time I drag and drop to desktop, its like a small hesitation which is very annoying. Is there a way to fix this or settings that I need to change to turn off this small pause/hesitation anomaly? Thanks
I'm running Big Sur and the drag and drop is very fast. I'm not sure why that would be happening, but could be due to older hardware? What Mac do you have? Did it start happening after upgrading to Catalina? Sometimes things get slower when you upgrade on an older machine.
@@Online-Tech-Tips Yes my machine is a 13 inch macbook pro mid 2012 2.9GHz Core i7 8GB. hey ive had a problem on my school laptop where sound does not work at all unless i do a restart, it only stops working when i put the laptop to sleep or hibernate. the laptop has a realtek HDA device for sound if thats relevant
This is what I found: 1) Right click the speaker icon in systray (desktop mode) and select ‘Playback Devices’ 2) Right click the ‘Sound’ window and make sure ‘Show Disabled Devices’ is ticked. 3) Right click the ‘Speakers’ entry in the list of devices, should have ‘Realtek High Definition Audio’ and also show green tick as default playback device. 4) Select ‘Disable’ 5) Right click it again and then enable. I don't know of either Realtek or MS have fixed it since, but installing the latest driver for your sound card and making sure Windows is updates are essential in case they have.
