Then a 1 ton arbor press for about 50$, then the other miscellaneous tools for 60-100$ but there’s plenty of videos of how to do it on a budget

The same goes for debasing - that is, decreasing the proportion of precious metals - in gold or silver coins struck or coined at an American mint.

These coin ring guys are all con artists and this practice should be illegal. They cut a huge chunk of metal off the coin and charge people like $30 for a $7 coin that's missing 40% of the metal from the cutout. They have no skills to make a unique piece of artwork because they're just in the business of ripping people off selling them chopped up expanded coin doughnuts. If they had any courage or skill they'd design and make unique jewelry's from silver bullion but they never do.

Question:If .999 Platinum is currently cheaper (by weight) than 14K gold and a ring can be made in a few minutes on a swaging machine, why are plain platinum rings with $350 worth of metal selling for $1800 while a 14K gold ring with the same metal value is selling for $640.

I don’t know. All I know is platinum weighs quite a bit more than 14k by volume so I don’t think you are comparing them by weight if the rings are the same dimensions. And platinum is more difficult to work with than gold. I personally don’t like working with platinum and usually turn down projects with platinum. For me it’s too soft and not fun to work with and it’s only slightly whiter than white gold.

@@CoinRingsfromTheMint As I type this, spot prices are $2024.5 for gold and $911.95 for platinum. Gold has a about a $20 lower premium on 1oz bars, where Pt premium is at 7.3%.
When I look at unfinished 24k gold and 24k platinum rings which are same style and size on a bullion website, the gold ring weighs about 9% less and the gold ring costs almost twice as much. The premium over the relative spot prices are 65-75% for Pt and 59% for Au.
When I look at identical 18K gold ($1518/oz) and Platinum finished rings on a consumer jewelry website, the platinum is sold at a much higher price and markup, while the platinum is only about 65% of the metal value of the 18k gold ring.
My thought was to buy the unfinished platinum rings and then weld, size and polish them for about 1/3 or retail.

Is it possible to put some kind of coating on the ring so it won't turn your finger green?

I make silver ones so that usually isn’t an issue. If you want to make the Cooper ones, there is no reliable long term solution. I always recommend silver for that reason.
