You're supposed to take a silver quarter and tap it constantly over and over with the bottom of a spoon. With a bounce. It forms a ring you can wear. Learned this in the 70s. Takes alot if dedication
I mean the pepetools stretcher is about 550$, you can pick up a set of 17° does for about 180$ from legacy coin ring tools that come with a coin punch, it’s not Siri but it’s still good. Then a 1 ton arbor press for about 50$, then the other miscellaneous tools for 60-100$ but there’s plenty of videos of how to do it on a budget
This tutorial is most beneficial to those who already make jewelry and have equipment. If you just want to make a ring for yourself, it’s not really worth setting up shop lol.

Fascinating! It would probably be way less expensive to just buy a pre-made ring than to buy all the equipment, if you just want one ring, which would be me.
I'm surprised you have all these press and forming tools.I suppose it's much quicker.We used to make these when I was an apprentice toolmaker.The coin was drilled on a lathe and then repeatedly hammered while rotating and annealed regularly.Same result but took a much longer time.

It was a very long time ago so, I could be wrong. But I always thought I remembered kids, in machine shop making those things using just a central former and a planishing hammer? I don’t recall any dies and presses. I guess the result was a lot more primitive.

It's tonnes more work than the coin ring kits say it takes. Having ultra large fingers I stopped trying at one destroyed coin. I could practise but those coins are expensive and rare that I wanted done. Not Krager rands expensive but at ten dollars per coin and the year is rare.. the math don't lie.

Skyler, help me😕 Everytime I get to the end of my coin ring.(without swedish wrap) I put it in the dome block to round roll the edges, only 3~4 mm above flush, and the bloody things squash sideways instead of rolling. I keep ruining the rings. It looks easy on youtube. For the life of me, I cant see what I am doing differerent. 50c 1966 Aussie round.

The same goes for debasing - that is, decreasing the proportion of precious metals - in gold or silver coins struck or coined at an American mint. Buddy here is not only breaking the law, he is recording himself doing it and posting it on a public forum. Very smart !!!!
Why don’t you check out what word comes before the quote you started:) That word makes what I do totally legal. It’s the same as the penny smashing machines everywhere. Without fraudulent intent you’re good to go.
These coin ring guys are all con artists and this practice should be illegal. They cut a huge chunk of metal off the coin and charge people like $30 for a $7 coin that's missing 40% of the metal from the cutout. They have no skills to make a unique piece of artwork because they're just in the business of ripping people off selling them chopped up expanded coin doughnuts. If they had any courage or skill they'd design and make unique jewelry's from silver bullion but they never do.

Really like your video. I had a old dime. It looked blackish. I started rubbing aluminum foil onto dimes surface. Turned out to be a 1944 dime. Why did the aluminum foil clean up the black dime to shiny.?
I have seen some incredible people make cool things with basic tools. With the tools that you have your ring was good as it should be. not as impressive with the machines. Sailors used to make morgan dollar rings with the coin and a spoon that is impressive
Question:If .999 Platinum is currently cheaper (by weight) than 14K gold and a ring can be made in a few minutes on a swaging machine, why are plain platinum rings with $350 worth of metal selling for $1800 while a 14K gold ring with the same metal value is selling for $640.
I don’t know. All I know is platinum weighs quite a bit more than 14k by volume so I don’t think you are comparing them by weight if the rings are the same dimensions. And platinum is more difficult to work with than gold. I personally don’t like working with platinum and usually turn down projects with platinum. For me it’s too soft and not fun to work with and it’s only slightly whiter than white gold.

The premium over the relative spot prices are 65-75% for Pt and 59% for Au. When I look at identical 18K gold ($1518/oz) and Platinum finished rings on a consumer jewelry website, the platinum is sold at a much higher price and markup, while the platinum is only about 65% of the metal value of the 18k gold ring. My thought was to buy the unfinished platinum rings and then weld, size and polish them for about 1/3 or retail.
I make silver ones so that usually isn’t an issue. If you want to make the Cooper ones, there is no reliable long term solution. I always recommend silver for that reason.

You take it back to the ring stretcher after Swedish wrapping in order to make it the proper size like in my 3 examples that I gave.

Step one, have all the expensive machines and tools. Step two, you obviously don't have all those machines and tools so this is a waste of time.

The 5 cent trough the 50 cent are all able to be annealed. All the gold ones have aluminum in them and I wouldn’t anneal those.

Both have to be true. It has meet both criteria in order to be successful.

The mega stretcher from Jasons.works :) It goes over your stretcher and lets you keep going.

Is it possible to put some kind of coating on the ring so it won't turn your finger green?
