I'd be really careful posting these videos because it is against federal law what you are doing which is defacing and or destroying currency. And the fbi and treasury departments crack down hard on that. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that you end up getting a visit from the feds
Thanks Skyler! You got me started making rings 3 years ago. I've paid for all my equipment & then some using the skills you have demonstrated. May God bless you for your generosity! Sincerely, Mikee409
Thank you for this video. It's been about 4 years since I've made any coin rings and I've just been reunited with my high school sweetheart. It's been 50 years since we were together, I just spent a week down in Kentucky where she lives, and we still feel the same as we did when we were teenagers. I showed her some of the rings I've made, and she was impressed, so I want to make her a ring for Christmas. Thanks again for your video.
Made my first clad quarter ring today. Just as described. Biggest lesson learned was you can't be timid with the ring stretcher. Trust that you've annealed correctly and go at it. :) Thanks, Skyler!
Interesting… I have purchased a couple.. they’re beautiful! I knew there was alot of work and science involved. Just wasn’t sure of the process. Very interesting!
Skyler this is the most straight forward explanation of the process for coin rings that I have seen on the net, I use the same steps however I've never teflon wrap as much as you,I guess I've been lucky.
Man. Yall are crazy. I just bought a coin ring from a guy at a ren fair who was making them and I’m just curious as to how it’s done. Why is everyone hating here? Because equipment costs money? Of course it does 😂 This guy is literally giving free info and if you have the skills and money, you just learned how to turn your investment into infinite wealth. Also, at far as cutting and pressing tools, I own most of it. Doesn’t cost much if you know where to look. I don’t have the dies or anything, but the tools are easy to get secondhand.
Thank you for this video, Skyler! I haven’t made a coin ring for about five years now. This was a fantastic refresher and motivator! Might very well get me back into the shop.
Thanks Skyler. I really enjoy your presentation style and the "back to basic" content is always refreshing and I'm sure will help many. Thanks for the plug as well! You're the greatest!
That is a lot of information there Skyler 👍 I think I will leave this job to the professionals, and just stick to my metal casting! I will see you in your next video 👍
Fascinating! It would probably be way less expensive to just buy a pre-made ring than to buy all the equipment, if you just want one ring, which would be me.
Thanks! It has definitely been a strenuous journey making the shop and filling it up :) But I really love it every time I am in there. It never gets old.
This would be fun to try, but I can't imagine anyone but another professional like yourself having access to all the specialized equipment you used. I'll just go to your site and buy one you made. You do excellent work!
You’d be surprised on how many people out there do this! It’s become quite the serious hobby or more for many people. That’s why I made this video! There are a lot of people who have the equipment but would benefit from the formula to get the most out of it. But I would definitely be honored to make you a ring as well :)
Thanks fellow Oregonian for all the info, Question you went from step 4 to Swedish wrap then back to the ring stretcher I'm try to make a step by step log for myself Thanks for the help
There are a ton of price points of getting in to this. You can spend a little or a lot depending on what you do. A complete setup will run around $3k. Here is my tool video A complete Rundown On All The Tools for Coin Ring Making ruclips.net/video/k8C0kXI9SR0/видео.html. Also I have a budget coin ring making playlist you should check out.
Two questions. When you reduced the ring with the pepe reducer you dipped in some sort of white cream. What was that? and what was that for? Aslo, it would be noce if you listed some of the tools you used. I had to watch the video over and over to get a list of all the stuff you need. Also, is that the Central machinery arbor press?
The white stuff is Pepe lube from Pepe tools. It reduces the friction allowing for a nice even press. And I thought that I added a link to the tool list video in my description of this video but I just checked and it wasn’t there! I’m a little surprised I didn’t add it. I did now. So thank you for bringing it up!
Excellent video! Unfortunately, I don't have all those sweet Swedish tools, only the expander/reducer press. Any chance you could do a video using just a press and not all the cool Swedish dies?
Hi Skyler. What coins , if any, can be annealed in Australia. My cousin made a ring out of a $1 coin in prison but i dont know if he anneald it or not. Cheers mate. Im a 1966 model so I guess for myself I would use a AU 50c silver round....or maybe you could make me one?
I make silver ones so that usually isn’t an issue. If you want to make the Cooper ones, there is no reliable long term solution. I always recommend silver for that reason.
So this is unrlated to coin ring making, but you seem to know your stuff. So here it goes, I'm going to try to resize my rng at home, i have a hard steel ring mandrel and a sizer, but should I anneal it first? It is tungsten with a rose gold core. Thanks, and nice videos
So in step 1 which is it. Stretch the coin until the coin edge touches the ring mandrel, or stretch the coin until the coin is the right size larger than target?
Would just letting the coin cool on its own and not quenching it help to avoid the possibility of cracks forming when starting the folding and sizing process ? Or Working the coin while its still warm be of any benefit or just stick to quench after annealing ?

The 5 cent trough the 50 cent are all able to be annealed. All the gold ones have aluminum in them and I wouldn’t anneal those.

Thanks for the video. Question; I’m not quite sure how long I need to anneal for each time I do it. Do you any set time?
It needs to get to a really barely noticeable red. That will tell you you made it up to temp. It’s best to do with the lights off.

This might be a silly question but what is that ceramic tile you use to torch the coin on? Is there anything special about it?
It’s a soldering block. They help the heat stay in the coin as you are annealing.

Quick question: What can you use to heat the coin up if a torch isn't an option? I have an old toaster oven that can go to 450. Would that be enough or does it need to be hotter?
Annealing happens around 1100-1200 degrees Fahrenheit. A torch really is the best way.
