      If you are a solo traveller in a car stock up on maize meal 5kg bags, cooking oil 1l bottles, matches, powdered meat soups (like Knorr soups), candles and use them as gifts to people you meet on the way. They will be very grateful. Think twice about giving cigarettes and sweets. If you have sweets to give, please ask the parents permission before letting kids see them. Oh and a hat, a big one!

      We Film Things Great video guys. Glad you enjoyed Namibia. From a local perspective, I would also suggest the following essential items which can all be bought locally: sunscreen, hat, water canteen. Tourists usually visit remote areas and if you get a flat tyre or stuck in the sand these will be very helpful.

    Probably one of the best travel experience video for my country Namibia without the need of stereotyping and comparisons. We need more visitors like these, not people coming to compare and makes us feel like we are in competition with other african countries.

    You missed one other essential tip: Plan your distances properly! Distances are much longer than one might think due to the types of roads you will be driving on.
    Also, watch your speed when on gravel roads as it is easy to flip a vehicle if speeding. I guess that's two tips

    • @WeFilmThings
      @WeFilmThings  5 лет назад +4

      Those are great tips - the driving experience was generally very different to what we're used to (though much more fun!) and we saw a car flip whilst we were there which was quite scary (though everyone was thankfully alright).

      Yes, I agree. The country is very large, so it's pretty much impossible to stay in one place if you want to see everything.
      Speaking of which, would you happened to know if there are any companies that do tours ftom Swakopmund to Etosha? It seems that all Ethosha tours leave from Windhoek.
      It would have been nice to include some tips on transportation, as not everyone wants to rent a car.
      Also they drive on the British side, if I'm not mistaking?

    I visited Namibia a some months ago and i loved it! You have really good information and the car with the tents on top is good if you don’t want to spend a lot of money, when i visted i mostly lived i lodges and it is expencive but the tents is really good to! You must rember to have a large quantity of Water with you at all times! Another thing is to plan so tou have spare time when you’re Traveling long distanses beacuse it takes more time the expected! It’s usefull to have a pair of binoculars when you are watching for game, on my trip my favorite places were Etosha, Waterberg and kalahari, i know kalahari is in south africa but my family decided to go to kalahari instead of fish river canyon. I would say that your trip was very good and next time i visit Nambia I might choose my trip more like yours! A tip i have for people i to book yourself, you Will get more out of your time in that way. Sorry if my English isn’t so good but my motherthung is swedish! Very good video!

      Hi Maria, we started in Windhoek and did a loop through Etosha, down the Skeleton Coast all the way down to Fish River Canyon and then back up to Windhoek. The full playlist is here: ruclips.net/p/PLjP4I9JZFIeI3rxUdk0A3n3s45ff4zdDm

    Hi, do you have to book all the campsites in advance? Can we find a spot if we just show up at the campgound?

    • @WeFilmThings
      @WeFilmThings  Год назад

      I would pre=book where you can! Lots of the campsites we stayed at had a very limited number of pitches - we did choose some really nice campsites though as we planned our entire trip in advance. Bearing in mind we went pre-pandemic so I'm not sure how booked up or not things are now. Have a great trip when you go!

    Great video thanks!
    But really the audio.... you got a camera and lenses for thousands of $ but forgot about a 10 $ clip-on mic that would have cut all the background noise :-)

      Fair point! Audio is the thing we struggle with most when making videos, but trying to improve!

    Hey guys! Headed over in 8 days and I’m wondering what the dress and covering situation is for females? I’ve travelled all of Asia and I know in some places you have to cover knees and shoulders, is that the same in Namibia?

      Just as long as you are not naked you are alright. Namibians tend to be very liberal but if you want to push the boundaries don't be surprised if the guys are stare-ring and the ladies are upset. Hope that helps.

  • @briantravelman
    @briantravelman 2 года назад +1

    Assuming those prices were in Namibia money, that's not expensive at all, at least not by California standards. 😂 But it depends which part of the country you're staying in. Accommodation in Windhoek is cheaper than in the coastal areas.
    What about tipping culture? It seems in a lot of African countries they want tips for EVERYTHING.

  • @minettevanderbijl
    @minettevanderbijl 5 лет назад

    Make it clear that the prices you quote are Namibia Dollars, which is about 14 to the US$ and it seems you were ripped off. Beer is not that expensive. Super Spar is far better than Checkers. There is also Pick&Pay that has everything and more. Another tip is that you should never travel without extra water.
