  • Many women put up with the symptoms of endometriosis for years, not realising the damage they are doing to their health and fertility. The condition, where womb-lining cells sit outside the womb, affects 1 in 10 women in the UK but many won't even know they have it. Women’s health specialist, Dr Annie Evans explains what to watch out for. For more information visit: bit.ly/1Z0LXHR

My mum and 2 sisters don't have it. They just never could understand me when I was in pain.

I remember when I was about 15 years old i was with my family on a outing to the science museum and I was on my period. I was in so much pain the worse pain my period has ever been. I kept going to the toilet non stop changing my pad and having bad stomach cramps thinking I needed a number 2 but didnt need to go. I took painkillers but didnt work and i was in the toilet crying my eyes out because of the pain. One lady asked me in there if I was ok and I cried to her saying its a monthly cycle I am on she said to me she knows how I feel with these awful periods the pain of them but told me to feel grateful as it means I can have kids in the future.
The pain got so bad that I couldnt even enjoy looking around the museum so I just sat there with tears in my eyes and holding onto my stomach screaming in pain, what made it worse was when people walked past staring wondering whats wrong with me.
The pain lasted a few hours after taking painkillers, I went onto the duck tour in London I started to feel a lot better and my pain slowly stopped. Thats the only time my period has ever been so bad. Just that once.
Now my periods only last 3-4 days and i get mild cramps and never worse cramps like that day when i was a teenager.

I just want you to know Kimberley that you're not alone. When I was probably about 11 or 12 years old, my mom and dad took me to this really nice restaurant on our vacation at universal Orlando. I was in so much pain and I didn't even realize why because I had only gotten my period maybe a year or two prior to that I think I was like 9 or 10 when I got my first period. I was an excruciating pain I thought I had to go to the bathroom to do number two just like you were saying. I went in there and I waited for like probably a half an hour and nothing happened and I was just in so much pain that I could barely even sit straight on the toilet without shaking sweating and crying. Eventually I just gave up pulled my pants up and went outside and I laid down on a bench in front of the restaurant and people were literally trying to call 911 for me but there was like nothing anybody could do finally my mom came out of the restaurant and gave me some ibuprofen and told me I needed to get my shit together because people were starting to worry because apparently whatever I had was something you shouldn't be worried about!! It wasn't until I was 31 years old over 20 years later my new doctor and a new state figured out that I might have a problem but she didn't want me to have surgery unless I was absolutely sure. I told her I wanted to be sterilized because I don't want children I've never had any children and I really don't want any the very thought of it is terrifying and knowing that the condition I have is genetic means that if I did have a child especially a girl she would be suffering just as much as me and I would not wish that on any human being ever. I am so shocked and disgusted that a woman came up to you and the restroom where you were suffering and told you it was a good thing you had your cycle because you could get pregnant I'm sorry but that's just disgusting to me. Maybe she meant well and I guess I shouldn't be angry with her but honestly the pain of endometriosis alone is agonizing enough. I would never wish this on anyone I wouldn't want anyone to have children with this condition either. There is no cure for it either. I will suffer until I get menopause and then I will hopefully feel some relief. I have had surgery once now I had my tubes removed I had the Endo removed but it will probably grow back and I'm still suffering very agonizing pain. Anyways I just wanted to share my story with you and I hope that you know that you're not alone and no matter what don't give up hope. ❤️ From St. Louis.

The lady may have meant well but as a woman who experiences all of that every time I have a period I would have been very angry with her comment. Not every woman wants to be a mother and no one should be thankful to be in pain. That's a messed up mind set!

This makes it sound so subtle when DIE is not! When it is in your bladder etc it is then deep endo and is agony! There is not enough research to show that one sure thing can " slow it down " it can also make it worse. If you feel you are suffering, please do not, bring endometriosis up to your doctor, ask questions and seek advice. It's very important that you do. 🎗

One critical issue with this: "WHEN she wants to?!??" How about "IF" she wants to have babies??? I have endometriosis and I wanted voluntary sterilization since age 10. I knew I never wanted to be a "mommy" since I was a "baby." Please END the stigma against the childfree women in this world. It's OK to not want kids. It's OK to have endometriosis and not want kids. JUST Saying.

I agree with you. I have kids. But it's important that we respect people who don't want children. This planet is overpopulated already.

I totally agree. People seem to forget that a woman’s whole purpose is so much more than creating babies. I’ve had Endo for 10 years now and have always said to people I never want kids. I’ve been constantly told “you’re too young to know yet” or “you’ll change your mind one day”. Now I’m approaching 28 I still know to this day I will never want children. I just don’t have any maternal desire and I think that’s 100% okay.

I always suffer from period pains every month it's very server and sometimes all what I need is stay in my bed and don't want to do anything my period last for 9 days. After I got married it got worse and worse and my husband wasn't happy at all, he said that it's not normal and the pain I used to get during or after sex was terrible sometimes I cry, but I used to think it's normal, I have been married for 6yrs now and I still didn't get pregnant. I went to see my GP and me and my husband have done all the test then been referred to fertility clinic, yesterday I have had lapcopasy and they surgeon told me that my womb and ovaries are fine and that there was endometriosis but he took it away, he said that might stop me from getting pregnant, I hope after the lapcopasy I will be able to get pregnant and that my period isn't painful.

@@LivingOnPurpose1 Hi, thanks for asking, unfortunately we haven't yet. Fertility Clinic said that we have to pay and it will cost us a lot of money. I don't think the marriage will last anyway. I thank God that I don't have any children because I don't want them to suffer.
