- The NEW Camry TRD is ready to prove that a midsize sedan doesn't have to be boring. Under the hood is 3.5L V6 that is producing 301 HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The standard Camry's exterior has be transformed with function exterior body additions, including forged TRD wheels. The Camry's interior carries TRD touches as well. Is the 2020 Toyota Camry TRD a REAL performance midsize sedan?

How is your evening Joe? And love the Camry. My family owes 5 of them in different generations.
It's going great! Tomorrow is the big day with filming at the Chicago Auto Show!
Raiti's Rides nice buddy awesome. Don’t forget to stop after that on giordanos and get some good Chicago style pizza my brother!
Hopefully you guys pay them back.
Gate Keeper I was just going to say the same thing 😂😂
Another 2020 Toyota Camry TRD video? Yes! I got this car (in white) because of your review!!! Love it!
My daughter is now driving my mother's 1996 Camry. It's good basic transportation especially for someone living in a large city ---- not many twisty roads or opportunities to accelerate. I really like the looks of this car as it is so different. Thanks for another great review.
That red and black really pop together. I don’t know why car companies makes fake vent, if you already put effort on vents why not make it functional. Anyway great review as always buddy
I totally agree with you!
I like the history behind the Camry you did there my dude, always here to learn
Tat really means a lot! Thanks for letting me share it all with you!
This is my dream vehicle! Terrific job Joe.
Love the snack references Joe!! Very unique to your channel and a good way to bring some humor among all the spec talk and I always find it funny
Same here , you just read my mind 🤯
I love it my wife got a regular Se with the same color and I like to drive it because it has every safety features on it and has 8 inch info. All the the automobile should all have safety features on every trims.
I feel your videos quality are better and better day by day ! Camry is a reliable and affordable sedan !
That really means a lot!
I have the silver and black for about a month now and I LOVE IT... Everyone keeps asking me if it came the way it is and it's cool when they say they haven't seen one of these yet 👍🏼
I have the silver and black to, definitely keeping it I think it’s the only silver/black combo for 2020 and never made again, so to me it’s rare color I have only seen 1 other one, all the others are white, black and red. Get a lot of compliments
Another zonk is that the rear seats don't fold down to increase the trunk space. I find that option very useful.
lets bring back the coupe
that would be wicked awesome
That would be awesome!
@@Hotdogbunker I totally agree with you!
I totally agree!
Lmao!
Joe you’re the car reviewer king! Keep up the hard/good work!
That is so nice of you to say! You got it my friend!
Hey Joe you’re a big inspiration for us car enthusiasts. Watching your video’s makes me want to be able to create car content as well. Hope everything goes well with the GT350 as well. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Jalen for saying that! You should go for it if it is something you want to do!
I love my Camry TRD I upgraded from the SE a month ago!!
Congrats! It's a great car!
Just last week I did the same thing for my wife, got her the one in pearl white. Side note, she's a grandma too and she's had the nickname "Leadfoot Laverne" since we were teenagers 😜
@@southgeorgiaindianrider8981 awesome!!
I gotta say having no cup holders in the back, in what's supposed to be essentially a family sedan, is one of the biggest zonks of all, especially coupled with no rear ac vents and no rear charging ports.
Engine sounds sweet when you were revving it up though and through the first bits of the ribbon, you seemed like you were having as much fun as you did in the Supra.
That's what the Camry Xse is for but for the price is understandable.
A serious request. Would really like the touch nav screen to be able to turn towards the driver. Flat on the dash does not work for me and I dislike having to carry an extra GPS with me. If they could just put it on a directional side swivel that would be sufficient. I find that often glare from the sun makes it impossible to view. Next year?
That is a very good input! I appreciate you reaching out!
Great work as always Joe! The way you explain how the storage compartments can be used cracks me up everytime.
I always enjoy the enthusiasm behind each of these reviews
I got one, absolutely love it for the price. Already got a resonator delete and sounds amazing. And I got some fog lights to throw into those fake vents on the front too!
I am from the SF Bay AREA where we have many twisting turns and hills and it really does well down the twists. Now I will say I wish the torque was much better which I think is tied into the transmission and is kinda slow to begin with but picks up eventually.
Would the price really be a lot higher if Toyota based it off of the XSE rather than the SE?
I would say around $40k
I really like that you do the pov for the twisties!
Thanks for saying that! I am so glad that I can share it with you!
Great video. I have a 2018 XSE and love it, but I should have went with the V6 XSE. I really like the TRD, but I don’t know that I want to give up some of the little things you pointed out that the TRD doesn’t have. I’m leasing my Camry, so who knows what I will do when it’s turn in time! Thanks for the video.
Another great review Joe. but I think Toyota should have made this trd special RWD only. I'll be all in on that.
Lots of value considering the price, this was made for people who like driving
This is so very true Santiago!
Pepole Who like driveing??? Shouldve gotten a red coupe.
*Rwd
@@wyattjohnson4930 fwd is more fun and turning and switching lanes is better than in a RWD
@@lancemoulic I dont think you've ever driven a rwd sports car then
I would buy an XSE with a TRD package if available. The rear spoiler and the wheels are on point.
.... best part is that it did not cost Toyota anything extra to get this TRD package , lower springs, stiffer shocks, thicker anti roll bars plus nicer tires and wheels .
If Mazda ever did offer such no extra cost sports pack on Mazda 6 2.5t wow it would make so much more sense.
I like this Camry .
That is so nice in red with the black rims and tinted windows.
Dude, love your videos! Great detailed description.. we can tell you love your job!
I saw this car whist driving around in south FL. I thought it was a riced out xse. The paint is a must see in person this video doesn't do it justice
Beautiful car!! Love the colors!! I’m not a fan of having a sun or moon roof so this works for me. $33k for this car is not too shabby. Now I’m getting to see the idea behind the paddles. Fabulous video!!!! Keep up the great work young man!!! 👍
Your support is so very awesome!
The color combination of black roof with red body is head turning! I've never been a fan of Camry's front grill (facia), but they wisely opened it up more with this TRD model. Zonk the spoiler, it's so yesterday looking (big and gaudy). I don't like the design of the center dash where the gauges reside and the infotainment system is located. No sunroof, no 60-40 fold down seats, steering is too light, not as much feedback on the turns as my 2021 Honda Accord Sport 2.0t. Thanks to Honda's 10 speed automatic, torque is distributed better through the lower gears! I love the throaty sound of the TRD's exhaust. If (big if) I bought a Camry, it would be the XSE!
I wish the TRD badge was black instead of red. At least for this model but I love this car, want one!
187k, that is so Awesome. Congratulations bro, I really appreciate folks growing they're channel, I love RUclips, my wife is a RUclipsr and it's exciting when it's growing.
I’ve been a Toyota guy all my life, but this vs the accord sport 2.0 is an easy choice for me. The accord is basically the same price and has the nicer interior. Trd is very driver intuitive while the accord offers engagement and some of the luxuries this trd is missing. Can’t go wrong either way, but for me the Honda Accord Sport 2.0 is the way to go.
Personally, I like the
Camry TRD in white. Black looks good, but just too dark, and I had my share of midsized black cars.
You forgot to mention the 2 pistons on the front brakes.
I think it would have been nice with the front lower panels with the foglights from the Camry SE Nightshade XP Edition, but no biggie, though, that should be made available as a factory dealer installed option for TRD, SE, XSE.
I have no qualms about no panoramic sunroof. Less maintenance with water draining in the channels etc.
I wish the rear seat could fold down, but I could deal with it if I got this.
Like you said, the was based on the SE with a V6 to make it more affordable, as opposed to the Avalon TRD that is based on the XSE trim.
Everything else is fine for me, now that a know it has an available option package O found a while back on the Toyota website while poking around, and checking local dealership inventory back then when I saw 3 of the 6 in dealer prep with a price a about $2-3K more. To my knowledge, the option package includes the 800 Watt JBL stereo with CD player, the birds eye 360° camera that I still don't know how that works, and a few other things. I know you don't get the turn signals on the outside rear view mirros and you get the smaller instrument panel display between to two main gauges instead of the bigger one from the XSE, etc. 301 HP is way sufficient for me with the better reliability, durability and longevity of the normally aspirated engine. The TRD body kit, wheels, brakes, suspension, exhaust, real has this car dialed in. This would be my first choice for a performance sport sedan. But yes, almost $40K with the option package, destination and dealership scalping fee here in the 808 State.
So as much as I like this, and the 2020 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback models and Si, I still will probably get the most affordable and trouble free Civic Sport Sedan. I wish the 2020 has the new design wheels, but I realize the previous design may look better on the Sport Sedan. I don't need to zoom and drive like the Si can do, and it's a toss up between the 6 Speed and CVT for personal reasons.
The 160HP 2.0L N/A engine is enough for what I need with the Sport appearance, equipment and handling and breaking of the Sport Hatchbacks.
I have a V6 Accord. (2013.) I love it. THIS car is exactly why Honda made a huge mistake in the "driver fun" department with going to a turbo-4. Yes, gas mileage, but there is no substitute for a V6 at full-song. No "cylinder deactivation", no turbos. About the only way this car could get more nuts would be if someone decided to put a 6-speed in it and set it loose against the 2.0T Turbo.
I never thought I'd legitimately want a Camry. This one though... yes.
Joe, while you had the Camry, did you get a chance to put the new 8-speed automatic transmission through its paces? I noticed you were using the paddle shifters in the review. I'm asking, because I'm hearing a number of complaints about the new transmission, how it shifts, the hesitation, etc. Not normal to hear this about a Toyota transmission. I'm wondering if you have any feedback, since you spent a week with the vehicle?
Personally I like the red black combo as it looks sinister(and bests' the looks of the Accord Sport). I don't however feel you get enough "TRD-NESS" to justify this over its regular strength sibling. I do wish Honda did a treatment like this for the Accord (S or SI or whatever). Nevertheless, I think it would have served Toyota better to offer an appearance/perf pack as an option for the regular strength model. Keep it going Captain Content !!
Great video! Mine is supposed to ship today! Now I know exactly where I'll place my twinkies and snickers.
I know that they are not in the same class as a Challenger or Charger, but you have real performance vehicles out there packing some real horsepower and this Camry should have been no different. V8, 400+ horsepower. Now you've got a true TRD Camry.
That is one way to look at it!
Idk why but when you said gear indicator i thought you said deer indicator and I was about to say thats useful af actually lmao
LMAO! You are hilarious!
I was talking to my friend recently about if we're just getting older or if Camrys are getting cool. These new Camry looks are growing on me and are definitely pretty rad. Also it's 2020 how does everything not have sunroofs
I totally agree with you!
Camry Xse definitely has these features, I guess the TRD is trying to against the price since this is the only way to get a cheap Camry with a V6.
Well done review, super cool looking car inside and out, and I appreciate the funny food punch line jokes throughout the interior based review lol.
Thanks for letting me share it all with you!
You could go to a body shop to make those vents functional. they would have to be real good at the cut. LOL
No moon roof or surround sound.
Looks amazing outside.
Thanks.
Wish we got the Avalon TRD as well, that car looks sick
So very true!
I am very happy with the looks and drivetrain options with this Camry TRD. A 305hp V6 and traditional torque converter automatic transmission will most likely prove very reliable. My biggest zonk is that the TRD badge is a bit of a let down because the car's horsepower has no boost while steering wheel and steering feel is still way too light and disconnected from the road. The lack of TRD Camry driver feedback is not good at all. The modest rear spoiler is really beautiful. I will zonk the lack of power seats, that is unacceptable. If you are an Automatic only kind of driver, you really have your work cut out for you between the Camry TRD and Accord Sport 2.0T just because despite having less horsepower, the Accord 2.0T still gives you better acceleration and torque while giving genuine steering feel through the wheel and chassis.
If the future brings a 2021 Toyota Camry TRD AWD with added and revised steering feel, then we have a king that even a potential legendary Honda Accord Type R (and maybe optional AWD please) would struggle to beat. We might just see a Camry in the next Fast and Furious. 😆
In terms of pure driving pleasure though, for my money a 6 speed manual transmission option would have to be included to put this stellar awesome sports family sedan right next to the 268hp Subaru WRX and underrated 290hp Honda Accord Sport 2.0L Turbo. You can do it Toyota!! 💪🔥
Thanks for sharing those great thoughts!
Great review! This TRD looks really nice! Style on deck!
It reminds me of the 2016 Scion tc trd RS10
I totally remember that one.
I drove one and no it’s not a performance machine but it’s easily the sexiest sedan currently hands down inside and out.
We did it in the 60's and it was the greatest time for enthusiasts because of affordability.
Sad day when a Camry comes with a better sounding exhaust than my Type R did. That V6 sounds awesome.
Great review.
I totally agree with you Matt!
Too bad Toyota doesn't have a Camry coupe they could do a TRD with... Now that would be awesome! Shave off about 300 pounds and now you are talking. Nice video Joe. I think this one will be very popular.
That would be really interesting to see!
Grt rev all u need is a larger rear sway bar and rotation shld,be acconplished
Thanks for sharing that Jay!
My age zonks that rear wing. Other than that, I love almost everything about the TRD pkg, especially the sound.
Joe what other Auto shows are coming besides this Chicago one? Also do you know any great links with details about them.
I have a 02 is300 with coil overs, catbacks, etc and For me, I think the Camry TRD is a great upgrade, it has more power, better handling, looks fantastic, more spacious
Why I like the camry TRD? is a simple car, I won’t miss a couple of things from my IS300 because I don’t have then... such as heater seats, wireless charge, navigation, body kit
2020 Camry TRD: cheap Sleeper
Your IS has a engine that can simply make 500hp with a little money thrown at it. It'll be more of a sleep than the Camry will ever be.
Test drove this car 4 days ago. The car is smooth and fun to drive and is very pretty from the outside and unfortunately those are the only good things I have to say about it. I'm 6'3 and felt super cramped in the driver seat. The lack of options make the $33k price tag seem way to high. Felt like you were buying a half finished car.
One of the most beautiful sedans that’s been made ,
Man oh man. Sorta wish I would've waited a few more months and bought this instead of the ILX. This is a perfect family/sports car..... and that red is BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
Car seems to look best in black, wonder what these other colours would look like with a black hood to match the grille.
For a few grand more . This or mustang Gt premium ? Or for the same money or less regular mustang Gt . I’m thinking mustang all day. Still own my 06 mustang with a novi 2200. But ford has been slipping lately, Also have 13 st lots of recalls and problems.
Camries are beautiful cars. Reliability, long lasting, and comfort.
I am so glad that you like this one Vince.
@@RaitisRides Camrys are for me LE through TRD
Love how you say the price of the car once you enter the car and go through the same routine with all your cars reviews👍🏻
I reckon it's kind of under powered to be a real performance sedan. VW had the Passat R36 with similar power and 4Motion AWD. That was 12 years ago.
Joe, love your vids, but why did you review a 2020 TRD camry again??
I understand you review hundreds of cars , I'm thinking you forgot you reviewed this car already? Either way, keep up the great reviews 😎
Thanks Cesar! Many tie I like to re-review cars because I can go more in-depth with them or drive them a little different! This was a press fleet vehicle so I got to spend a week behind the wheel and it helped me understand the car a little more. Thanks for the feedback.
TRD logo in the back rear should have been blacked out aswell
The local Toyota dealer here where I live had this same colored TRD Camry plus the other TRD Camry they had was all black I test drive the black TRD Camry this past Monday it does go pretty good tolove the exhaust note sporty without the sports car price
That is really great!
@@RaitisRides plus I'm a heavy guy and I was comfortable in that TRD Camry
Dude the comments kill me lol. I like how you just throw them in all chill.
Thanks Miguel! You gotta have a little fun!
Like the car don’t like the spoiler, any way to take it off?
Nice!! Two things you can't get in Canada...a Camry TRD and a Three Musketeers @13:08 .... :-) Zonk on the front brakes. Should be 4 piston fixed calipers.... :-) (TRD)
No Three musketeers! OMG!
Joe, thanks for the review of this car. I've been waiting for this one. Question for you- I know its comparing apples to oranges but how would you compare it to your old RS in the eyes of a car enthusiast? I'm considering the TRD because I'm actually trying to get rid of two cars, one being a sedan I daily and the other being my RS. The daily is starting to become a money pit (though I have it running well at the moment) is the main reason why I'm looking at this TRD and I don't want to resort to the RS to become my daily. I love it so much but carrying two car payments is out of the question. Would love to hear your thoughts.
So which is better? TRD Camry or TRD Avalon. I actually like the styling of the Avalon better but Im afraid it will feel to large to feel sporty?
They drive the same way but for the Avalon pretty much the interior is way better and has more tech and features than the Camry TRD.
Avalon is a alot expensive than the Camry too.
Took this car into consideration but no manual option, just gonna but the veloster n
Lol I know that exact road. Drove my ST there all the time! I’ve said it before but always good to see a local do well.
Can you do another 2020 Toyota Corolla hybrid review ?
I will get that together for you!
I’m getting 67 mpg with the perfect tire pressure in the city and I’m not really driving fast or slow, just the perfect car .
Great review. Love the styling, engine and interior 👍
Thanks Andy! I really appreciate that!
You should add road noise to your forte
I definitely think this car gives you a lot of bang for your buck. It's sporty and fun but still a camry so will last forever. I would have killed for a camry like this as my first car instead of the 1996 one I got :)
I totally know where you are coming from!
This machine looks even better in white. Toyota really set the Camry apart from it's competitors with this trim. Bravo!
Sunroofs lower stiffness, leak, and break. I have always bought domestic but love this car.
Thanks for your input and perspective!
Didn't you already review the Camry TRD?
I thought so, too.
Hey Joe do I get a 21 TRD Avalon or do I wait for 22??? Do you know something we don't?!?! Redesign for 22 Avalon???????
Manual, rwd or both would be a real hit with enthusiasts
I like it Honda should do a Type R Accord like this and for that price, but I'll keep my Type R Civic
I was thinking but Charger Rt but I believe I will go for the Trd only for the reliably
OK, nice video. I hope Toyota reads your comments because it could have made the Camry so much better from day 1. What would I have liked to see on this car as options? The LC500's drivetrain of V6 Twin-Turbo and 4WD. Or the tried and proven 3SGTE (4 cylinder) Turbo 4WD, in either auto or manual 6 speed. Those options would greatly widen the demographics of customers instead of this "Play it safe" car they have been offering for years. Yes it would have bumped the car to $10-15K more, but that would still be in keeping with a performance Sedan with a reputation for reliability and would compete with the BMW 5 Series very well as both would be performance cars; but only one of them would be affordable to maintain out of Warranty. Guess which?
I doubt it'd touch anyone just doing all that when the LC itself is still slower that even the rcf kills it. So it competeting with the LC's drivetrain would be them throwing more weight onto the car since the LC is just about 1000lbs more than the Camry itself. It's V6 probably wouldn't help in that case either.
Dude this is the most aggressive sedan ever love it
It does have the look!
@Silver N Black Mopar LOL
Irv ram when I have those kind of money I’ll think about the Benz 😁👍🏽
Any tips of buying a used car? Chrisfix has a used car checklist, but what are your opinions. My parents don't trust dealerships when it comes to used cars.
I actually will put this together for you!

Been seeing your videos in my suggested, Great content!
I'd say the Corolla is more of an appliance. Camrys are for the middle aged office manager/accountant that blends in with the paint in the office, and doesn't want to drive anything that could possibly be offensive.
that rear seating room looks great
Very spacious!
Great review Joe! I honestly can say that rear spoiler is in my top 5!
This is true!
I wish it had the xse interior (screen and the one between the gages) also the outside day time running lights!
If this had existed a year ago and came with a 6-speed, I would have strongly considered it against the Type R. That exhaust sounds divine!
I totally agree with you!
