This brilliant, complicated song crossed the divide between the Stones assumed blues "cool" and that greater unknown blues wilderness (as we knew the popular musical world in 1966 in mainstream Australia in 1966. ) Search out "For My Woman" by the Easybeats to flesh out the wonderful tribal beat that started to emanate from Australia in the 60s. They were prepared to try something completely new ... how many pop bands TODAY, let alone in staid 60s Australia, would have dared release a single in 9/8 time? They had a record company, W&G, that had the foresight to issue a teens label, IN records, on which it was safe to experiment with a new sound.
