  • Felicity, CA was founded in 1986 by Jacques-Andre Istel and is home to the "official" Center of the World and Museum of History in Granite. The site became the center of the world after Mr. Istel wrote a children's book, then Imperial County and later France recognized the location as the official center of the world. The most impressive thing there however is the Museum of History in Granite.
The Museum of History in Granite has 18 granite monuments with detailed history of things such as California, the United States, the world, art, the oceans, the French Foreign Legion, and more.New sections are still being added. The site also includes a Maze of Honor, the church on the hill, and even original stairs from the Eiffel Tower.
For more info on Felicity check out the town's website: felicity.us

unless the world is flat, there is no center of the world. On a spherical surface, every point is the center.

So how is it the centre of the world when we apparently live on a globe.... serious question. Where's the logic here. Self proclaimed centre hah.

Your story is very different from other who have visited. They say they make you sign a paper make a wish and stick you foot on something and that if you don’t you can’t take the tour. That it was every cult like and only ten people live there

I was practically forced to watch the cartoon on how this place became the "center of the world". Interesting place! Met Felicity in the gift shop!

I've driven by dozens of times on my trek across the desert from San Diego to Tucson and back. Always wondered. Next time I'll stop. Thanks for sharing!

This definitely was one of your best! It took me at least a half an hour to get through it as I stopped multiple times to read a few of the different plaques. I would love to get there myself, but I hope my kids make it there someday! So much information!!

I’ve been by there quite a few times on my way to the Quechon casino a mile or two away. I stay there while I cross the border for dental work. Definitely going to stop by and check it out. Thanks for posting this.
