- Elon Musk has warned many times about the dangers of AI. He sees strong artificial intelligence as an existential risk. Musk therefore wants to develop a brain machine interface or BMI device so we can merge with AI and hopefully develop a symbiotic relationship with artificial intelligence thus solve the AI control problem. Elon Musk has founded the neurotechnology company Neuralink. the company is focused on developing implantable brain machine interfaces. Neuralink has made recent headlines for its newest BMI device presented by Elon Musk.
In the short term, Neuralink's BMI may be used to fix neurological problems and disorders. As Elon Musk has pointed out, over time, virtually everyone who gets old will suffer at least one if not multiple common neurological issues such as: Memory loss, hearing loss, seizures, strokes, brain damage etc.
With the development of Neuralink's device, these problems may be a thing of the past. Better yet, the integration of Neuralink's device with the human brain may advertently solve the artificial intelligence alignment problem by achieving a symbiotic relationship between humans and machines.
This is because there are many cases where an AI and a biological intelligence could benefit from each other's actions; the AI receiving data from the human brain and the human brain receiving data from the AI. The benefits of this relationship would greatly outweigh the costs to both humans and AI systems; however, it is also very likely that AI systems and biological intelligences will at some point be in conflict.
Elon Musk has commented on the dangers of AI saying it is the greatest risk we face as a civilization. However, in order to prove that Neuralink can solve this problem, two things will need to become clear: how does Neuralink achieve symbiosis with the human brain? And what are the side effects and potential drawbacks of this symbiosis?

The more immediate danger is of a very small group of people having an army of lethal, autonomous weapons.
What puts some control on the use of the army by dictators to control their population? It is the fact that this army has friends, parents, spouses, relatives in the population. I believe this is necessary in order to evolve and it will happen anyway even if we like it or not over time. That's not the problem as far I'm concerned, the problem is how much freedom or positive impact this product will bring in people's lives, how invasive or safe will be. I'm not that hyped about this tbh. Sure the positive things are amazing but just design a few back doors to the code, play benign till everyone is chipped and boom. The organization that is in controll of these things can literally shut your body down if they want to. With that much power surely comes corruption. Let's be honest. I'm not scared of AI symbiosis, in fact I can't wait for it. I'm more afraid of the people who have ultimate control of it, at least in the short term: Whoever has the power to control what you see and hear and feel can give you a heavenly experience or send you to hell to burn alive or be chopped up over and over for the rest of your life. So long as no human has that kind of god access, I have no problem with implanted tech. Imagine being able to access the could-stored experiences of anyone in the world to visit the places they've been to. Anything that anyone has ever seen, heard, tasted or touched could be made available to everyone else. What's more, if domestic and wild animals are given that same technology we could talk with them and experience being a cat or a dog or a dolphin, etc. Anything you could ever want would be yours without so much as a snap of your fingers.

Excellent YT Vid. Perhaps the best I've ever seen in terms of relevant content. Will it be installed with a permanent battery? What is the accumulative research on the effect of bluetooth-on-human for extended periods of time? Is there any heat involved with the BMI? If this is bluetooth, I'm not a bluetooth security expert, but if you are syncing to your phone, seems like phone hackers would get paid enormous amounts of $ to hack certain brains or all the brains of your future hive mind? You would probably have to provide the phone with the BMI so you could ensure immediate patches in case of a significant penetration or exploit into your brainframe.
One idea I had in order to try to keep a balance with the collective human consciousness and the any-minute-now-AI-Super Intelligence is to supply each users with their own personal AI as a buffer between your brain and any hostile AIs. I think in the movie the Matrix, Morpheus referred to it as a Loading Program (simulation). Or perhaps 2 AI layers, like a private network and a public network. If you include a Nurallink Phone, the phone could act as a hardware firewall as well.
We can't really construct models for the short and long term effects yet of this interface on the human? What happens if you chip a psychopath, who now has access to the collective consciousness? Would you screen for Empathy Quotients? Do you have enough data yet to graph how quickly your BMIs will evolve? Should a tech savvy human wait 5 years so all the radio stations you pick up when you are too close to the microwave and the meatspin gif that some troll uploads to your brain while you are sleeping, etc. gets ironed out? In case of a hardware malfunction is there going to be an emergency kill command?
In regards to your concern about Super AI draining more energy than the universe has - isn't this a Type 3 or maybe even 4 Civilization concern - do you think we'll go from pre-Civilization Type I to full-blown Type 3 in less than a human lifetime? Time to an AI Super Intelligence would be incomprehensible to our current brains.
