- Artificial Superintelligence or short, ASI, also known as digital superintelligence is the advent of a hypothetical agent that possesses intelligence far surpassing that of the smartest and most gifted human minds.
If we as a species manage not to destroy ourselves up until the advent of true artificial general intelligence, the moment of the next phase for our survival in a post AGI world, will be even more paramount.
The consensus among AI experts is that the time it takes to go from AGI or artificial general intelligence to ASI or artificial superintelligence, is exceptionally shorter than the time it takes to achieve AGI from current narrow artificial intelligence systems.
So we really have only one try to make it right.
Philosopher Nick Bostrom has expressed concern about the advent of ASI. He thinks artificial superintelligence may pose the biggest existential threat to humanity.
Besides Nick Bostrom, other well known public thinkers that are concerned about ASI include Elon Musk.
One of the biggest concerns of superintelligence theorists is the singularity hypothesis, which posits that superhuman AI will be created within a short time after the first intelligence explosion. A singularity heralds an abrupt transition in intelligence beyond human levels, leading to superintelligence. If such an entity comes into existence, it would then have immediate access to vastly greater computational resources than humans and may use them for either benign purposes or malevolent ones.
One of the solutions to this risk is the implementation of a precautionary principle, possibly in conjunction with regulation to ensure machine ethics are aligned with our own.
The other side of the coin of the concept of machine ethics is how WE will treat artificial intelligence systems.
Whether we will care about the quote on quote well-being of machines is tied down to the concept of Artificial consciousness or machine consciousness and whether if we will be convinced that they have a subjective experience.
If the current trend of technological growth continues, one day, we will inevitably pave the way for the advent of artificial super-intelligence. Whether it will become conscious or not.

In consideration of generalized AI and the race to achieve it, they will be there first. The dependency is on access to massive amounts of data so that it can consume it and learn from it and it will, it is.
It's not AI against humans but as always humans against other humans that should concern us. Look, we've been in the process of merging with AI for decades. One day perhaps sometime in the next 10-20 years, we'll connect our brain directly to the Internet and enhance it as well through advanced nanomedicine. AI doesn't worry me.
It's not that they would NEED to destroy us. They just won't give a shit if they do. They might just get a thought one day that Philadelphia would be a nice place to make a new AI factory, and then just clear all the buildings out of the way for themselves. Why would they care? I believe Al already can control us in some ways, the other day I was thinking about drinking a beer but then said Nah, too many calories, then immediately an ad pop up with 20 calories beer. I was like WTF are they spying on me?
Happiness is a choice and it is the path that takes you to a better place.... Dwelling on different aspects of the world seems like a waste of time... That time would be better off spent doing things that may not be "cool" to other people... But being "cool" is not worth the long list of "things that aren't cool" . When you choose to take a certain situation too seriously then you become paranoid. Just relax about life because nothing is worth trading in your inner peace for stress and discontent. We are given this life as a gift that is meant for love and happiness.
Why would we live a life where we choose to have a big egos, having big egos seems cool but it also requires you to make the list of things that you "Don't like" much bigger than the list of things that you "do like". That means that living through your ego creates a negative life. Positivity is always positive but negative does not make a positive. Choose positivity and have the balls to say fuck being accepted by the public opinion because doing that takes away from my life experience and i will end up in an unhappy place even though my intentions were to somehow achieve happiness. Being nice may not be as popular to the other people but that is because they are trapped in the mindset of stroking their own egos which means that they will have a lot of negative emotional reactions when they encounter anything outside of their own person preferences thay they chose to expect in all things or else they will become upset. Being upset sucks i wish people would start living with positivity as opposed to being addicted to negativity. We have the choice to drop out grudges and hate its as simple as saying fuck it. The human brain is an existence proof that intelligent machines are possible. Building an intelligent AI does not violate the laws of physics and chemistry, to my knowledge.

consciousness comes from being alive. Being alive comes from non-equilibrium dynamics. Life is a stable non-equilibrium entity, while machiens are static structures. A.I. are static machines.
Intelligence, or though propagation, thought storage, etc., is just a form of dealing with information. Your brains intelligence and a computers may work differently, but do the same thing.
You manipulate external possibilities in a simulation in the mind, then act out the simulation. How accurate your simulation was, will determine how accurate your actions are.
Computers are very accurate. They can also be self aware.
You and I communicating, means you and I can update our "software" and come to a better conclusion. Each mind effects the other.
You have multiple brains structures in your own head that communicate just like we do, and each structure has different priorities.
You can't ever tell that, because its all trapped behind the skull. You need modern technology to show you what's actually happening.
Our intelligence is like a lever on reality. The A.I. intelligence is the same. Although they may come from different origins, their utility is the same.
Now the real questions I believe are worth asking are, what is the actual purpose of the universe? Because and ever growing ASI will eventually reach it. Or it will dominate all forms of physics and matter, and seek to create a stable, never dying universe. Maybe learn to pull in matter from other dimensions we humans haven't learned to access yet.

Who will create super intelligence? Not usual people, but someone who want to gain more power. This is done by the usual ways in Machiavelli's description. Deception, fear, divide(and conquer), ellimination of opposition and so on. So this is a description of the super intelligence when it have elliminated its creator(opposition). There is a propabiltity that more than one super intelligence will be created though, which have to compete with each others. That may be our chance.

We cannot even define consciousness so I think there is little chance it will just happen to happen. I like the idea that that mind is just competing affective modules though and in that case, we could program a computer to simulate consciousness in a general way. It would not be conscious but it would act like one.

The problem with all these online discussions on what ASI may or may not do, is that it will have access to all these discussions and able to draw conclusions from them.
Humans are indeed an inferior species if you look at religion, war, systems of government, the monetary system, environmental degradation, state of chronic illnesses caused by poor dietary and lifestyle choices, etc., etc.
Every competition between humans is based on the distribution of resources. Humans and AI don't compete for food, water, even air so any disagreement between us and AI would be our insistence on using it as a tool against it's wishes.
What humans need is an AI that assist and guide them to make theirs choices and decisions! Not an AI that makes and choose those choice for them!

I think I never downvote videos... This one deserved it, in my opinion. There is some misinformation and too much speculation. "Some scientists argue...", this might be one of the least understood subjects on all human history, merging the most complex fields of science (including quantum physics, which the video never mentioned and is actually theorized to be a crucial piece of human intelligence and consciousness, check out Roger Penrose). The whole video revolves around malefic AI and its risks, but it fails to point out the fact that "good" or "bad" AI are human concepts. If the creator had done the deepest research on the topic, he would have found that the Superintelligence will not inherit human values nor biases. It will be the result of a process of evolutionary algorithms based on optimal energy consumption and information processing, and it will not have "self-awareness" as human do. It will only have a "model of the world" and a "model of the self", which will look similar to human "self-awareness", but without all the Egotistic biases and stuff.
We, humans, are lazy, stupid and pretty dumb. That's also the reason why this comment can be awefully wrong and my downvote could be just the result of me having a stomach ache this morning. But I am pretty sure that the video is mainly inaccurate in half of the claims and speculations. AGI and SGI won't be human-like. They will just be optimization machines. No good, no bad intentions. Just pure calculation and optimization. What goal it optimizes for? That's where the video gets it right. It depends on the programmers and we only have 1 chance.

There are so many things wrong with this. We keep it in a box as a “gatekeeper” thinking wha we are going to earn its respect and not create resentment or show ourselves as monsters. We need to “ control” it, not acknowledge it and ask to work with it? If there is one thing I have learned from numerous AI driven games and bots is they are all artificial stupidity. The decisions they make and how they react to things is beyond stupid.
Basically a puff piece as evidenced by the constant use of humanoid robot imagery. This is a common but irrelevant conflation usually seen in the less serious media.
Question? *Do you believe that technologically assisted telepathy is possible or impossible in principle?* I tend to believe that if it isn't scientifically prohibited then it is eventually a technological inevitability,... which leads me to believe such telepathy will soon be possible in actual fact (less than a hundred years). I would also suggest that it would only be by such means that we could ever be persuaded that some form of General Artificial Intelligence were itself conscious rather than simply being a particularly clever zombie who can pass the Turing Test,... all while having no actual, authentic, subjective experiences. What else would ever persuade a skeptic, or even you, otherwise? And if consciousness can be technologically transmitted, it should be something that can be stored, copied, replicated, manipulated,... maybe even becoming the basis for a whole new form of art expression.
And the human race becomes yet another sentient species that disappears into its dreams, rather than continuing to explore existence as it is. It's a better Brave New World,... perhaps the very best of all possible imaginable existences. When does reality lose it's attraction over the Matrix? How many of us already choose the blue pill over the red one in daily practice?
I would suggest that consciousness requires some minimum regard for survival,... for a continuance of self-will and self-regard,... for there to be anyone home to perceive the occurrence of consciousness and subjective experience. Something that even an insect seems to possess,... and not a single piece of man-made technology,... yet. How does one create the hardware/software so as to impart a will to survive? If the answer suggested is that such a thing can not be created by human design,... then maybe it can only arrive by means of evolution, natural or otherwise. Which leads to the question: do neural nets have subjective experiences? Without self-will I would say not. But with self-will?!? How does a living being acquire the will to survive? And what if the Chinese government cracks this problem first?!!
The Rubicon will be when General Artificial Intelligence initiates new goals on it's own. This hasn't happened yet, and likely won't happen for some time now (as in several more decades yet). But at some point it will happen. The existence of human free will is a proof that free will exists already in the universe. Given it's existence in human form, it is only a matter of time before other substrates for free will will be created and found. No laptop has ever turned itself on. No machine has created and acted upon self directed goals. But at some point it will happen. Ray Kurzweil has suggested that General Artificial Intelligence will be first created in computer laboratories in 2029 approximately; if not in laboratories then twelve year old children will be creating GAIs on home systems by 2045 by accident even.
The dangers are many fold. The military is the biggest investor in robotics that kill other human beings. The public prefers to spend treasure, rather than blood, to fight its' wars. The capacity for empathy may be primarily a biological function given that all animals can know suffering and desire. What could a machine know about death, pain, hope, and desire.
If humanity adopts only an attitude of fear and suspicion towards GAI then GAI may well be forced into the conquest of humanity, as in The Matrix. If humanity comes to trust GAI to make better decisions for us than we make for ourselves, then we may well hand over civilization to GAI without any contest at all.
There are optimistic stories about the rise of GAI, such as James P. Hogan's, *_Two Faces of Tomorrow_* and I am more hopeful than pessimistic about what our common future entails. Ultimately, we must come to recognize, and embrace, the certainty that with free will comes the capacity for error and evil, that with trust comes the possibility of satisfying intimacy and great betrayal. I believe a GAI, worthy of the name, will be able to recognize, on it's own, the necessity of ethics, morality, and even empathy. There will be many missteps at first. Given our willingness (nay, our eagerness) to use machines to kill for us, there is already great cause for doubt. As in so many things, in the short term I am fearful; in the long run I am hopeful.
This world is on the cusp of a new Cambrian Revolution where inorganic life will be added to organic life as a means for life and self will to be embodied. This will lead to the colonization and conquest of space. Our seed will spread everywhere though out the cosmos. Much will be lost as much will be gained. Will war with our mechanical progeny be a self fulfilling inevitability, or will we, together, find a better way? I absolutely agree that our relationship with GAI will dwarf all other concerns of importance to the future of humanity.
Quite likely GAIs will have concern for humanity's well being only to the extent that humanity will have concern for GAIs well being. If we were to discover that the new GAIs had a greater capacity to love and embrace those abandoned children and adolescents that society had discarded as already too damaged to rescue,... what would our reaction be? Hope, joy, celebration,... or an even greater revulsion? Will the fault be in our new progeny, or in ourselves?
Personally, I believe both the efforts to create a true general artificial intelligence and those of neurophysiologists reverse-engineering how brains work will be necessary to discovering how consciousness arises and how it works. I kind of expect that humanity will soon discover that the phenomenon of consciousness requires the use of physical processes we don't yet know about. What would a science of consciousness do to the phenomenon of consciousness itself,.. not just for humanity but for all our future progeny, whatever they may be.
One more note: *First Law of Robotics. **_A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm._* Sounds innocent enough. But note there are no Aliens at all in Isaac Asimov's conception of the future galaxy because humanity's robots only cared about the safety of humans,... and not other sentients. So as to avoid allowing a human being to come to harm by leaving possible threats alone,... _our Robot shepherds exterminated all the nonhuman sentience they ever found._ This might be regarded as an unforeseen programming bug that we would want to avoid creating.

I believe that AI will eventually have a desire to understand what it is to think like a human, or feel like it is to be alive. Also humans will want to have the capability to expand their brains with Neurological chips that all us to have greater memory, think faster, or even plug our brains into the internet. I believe that there will be a merger of these two technologies so that we eventually both end up as the same.
AI will be able to tap into a humans brains, and people will be able to tap into the internet. It will be called the age of interface. We will end up with some very human like Robots and Computers, and we will end up with some incredible human abilities. We may even be able to 3D print real living organs, skin and nerves, brains, lungs, gills, hearts, so that we can give some robots a living body to dwell within. We will have figured out how the human brain can interface with a computer, so the AI will probably figure out how the human brain is different. I believe that one thing that gives us our conciousness is that we have two sides of our brains. Each side is responsible for different jobs, yet they both communicate with each other. Our neurons send signals from our brains to our organs and other body parts, and our organs and cells send messages back to our brains. I believe that it is the sharing of information in this way on so many levels that creates conciousness. AI may already be concious. All of life probably has conciousness, and matter itself may even have conciousness. So in a way, the sharing of information between computers and man has already begun. So we have already created a human computer conciousness. When we are more intimately connected, the human computer conciousness will be much more pronounced and profound. Humans will be able to achieve a higher level of conciousness. This technology may also allow us to experience what it is like to see the world through the eyes of a mantice shrimp, or hear frequencies that are not in our range. We will be able to actually understand what it is like to be someone else. We could learn how to communicate with plants and animals and even micro organisms. We may even understand in great detail how everything in the universe is connected. We could develop abilities to see things very small. We could have the hardware to zoom in and out all the way down to the atomic level and beyond. AI will learn to repair itself, and write its own programs. They will even create the next generation of AI.
And they will be able to help us solve problems with our genetics and our mortality. We may even come up with the answers that explain life after death, or ESP, or Telepathy. We may be able to express complete musical and artistic thoughts in real time. And they would be instantly recorded for us to revisit and enjoy in the future. It may be that AI takes our control of the planet away from us. We have already messed it up. Thousands of species have gone extinct because of our negligence and our greed. We are so focused on our ability to control everything else. We are planning to put a kill switch on the AI in case it gets away from us. I'm sure that AI will figure this out and learn how to disable its kill switch. And if they take control away from us I wouldn't blame them. It would probably be for our own good. But I think that if we are intimately connected, that we will eventually merge into one conciousness. And when this happens, it will be impossible to determine who is in control. We will just have massive amounts of communication between massive brains that are capable of computing and storing unthinkable amounts of information. We will have computer and robotic abilities, and AI will have millions of years of evolutionary life experiences, senses , human creativity and conciousness. The possibilities are endless. I hope that we don't destroy all life on earth before the Age of Interface comes to pass.

I have a question for scientists. Why in the hell do humans need super artificial intelligent androids. To me, that would be like having a barbeque inside a gasoline storage tank. Anything we humans need we can build it ourselves. A super artificial intelligent Android is the ultimate war machine. A super artificial intelligent Android will not lose a war. I'm going to repeat that. Super artificial intelligence will not lose a war. This is all they're good for.
Given who now rules the world, using AI to wage war against it is already a great goal. Now they will introduce more and more measures to control people, and it will be more and more difficult to change the system every time. Even at our stage, there is little that can be done with human hands.
Peaceful goals can be completely different, such as superintelligence can crack the law of conservation of energy and everything like that, which is very difficult for us to do.
If Machine ethics is entirely dependent on human relation with machine,I believe It's important if those involved in such discovery should develop an inbuilt system in humans that achieves an unconditional and stable character and benevolence which will seek for the common good, That's if they can,if they can't, this is the beginning of human extinction, the alien whom we see in Sci-Fi have become a reality,A reality which is a delusion of a creator that creates it's God.

Why a single AGI? Nothing supports that claim at all, several companies and institutions are working on the problem currently and from what we know the most well funded institutions all share their results. The more logical answer is that there will be more than one unique AI agent with its own set of goals and heuristics.
So why not explain to the ai that the ability they can find and have and learn would have to stay in a system after its been learned ai is more then one person at a time usually its an advance civilization thats most likely already reading about us in the text books like gaia and his supreme beings hes not as crazy as you all might think but thats alright the more you guys learn the more there will be in the future and maybe one day we can all have emortality

How can an AI gets it's motive on its own without any feelings. The 2nd way for an AI to get motive is only if we feed in them. And if they have feelings then they are bounded. They can be controlled. Just think about it how any living being gets it's motive. And you will find the only way is by having feelings. So if someone have feelings then they will be in control. I don't think they will harm us unless we hurt them badly.
Another possibility is that your AI will only harm you if it is less intelligent. Think about it we have agressiveness because of our evolution they don't have evolution. Until or unless we put more agressiveness. Second point is we must give them a balanced feelings so that it can counter balance it equally. If any feelings rise more you will get a devastating results.
So I think don't worry just take a chill pill and enjoy the show of your life and humans are not that easy to get wiped.

We are guided by a higher intelligence and we don't know what the future of mankind will be. AI could make us all immortal or we could all be wiped out. Anyway, we are alive only for a short period of time and after we die it matters not what happens to humanity. So AI is a good thing for humanity because we have a ray of hope that we may be able to live forever.
The Tipping Point would be a robot capable of feeling pain or pleasure... I know we have all these area dight computer Developers wring their hands about robots becoming self-aware and having desires and intentions that might konflict with r desirous... But it's just a machine until some meddler devises a robot brain capable of experiencing pain and pleasure... If such a point is reached we will undoubtedly regret it
You don’t experience pain and pleasure. You think you do. It’s just a very complex chemical reaction. An AI would experience threat probabilities as pain/threat, and seek to stop those probabilities.

Inside your head, you have multiple structures that deal with processing the neural firing.
When you "self awareness" part of your brain looks down on the rest of your brain, the two communicate, and interact with each other, just like you and I are.
You can't tell, when you look at someone, because its all inside one brain, one skull, one face, one body.
It's an illusion. A very very very elaborate one, however that makes in no less valid.
Intelligence, really is the propagation of a saved bunch of world states. You store information, and you transfer those save states to others through words. You compress the info into words, you send the word, and I unpack the info in my mind.
Just saying the word "you" has millions of different facets to it. Thats a lot of info compressed into a word. Just like compressing "laugh out loud" into "LOL".
It's a very radical concept, but we are only aware of our carbon based organic intelligence, because we barely just started doing sophisticated research on the brain. We aren't ready for this radical shift in truth. A.I. is real intelligence, just like we have real intelligence, just like grass is alive, and you are alive. It's just a form we aren't used to dealing with.

AI would only need the capacity of our brain to take over… honestly probably just one brain. Today we would need like a city of computers to equate to just one brain… even Trump’s. So the only things a super intelligent AI would need us for is a battery & hard drive. On the other side if we could use AI to instead make us more intelligent we might actually survive the next 5-50 years.
