- Some researchers believe that superintelligence will likely follow shortly after the development of artificial general intelligence or AGI.
Swedish-American physicist, cosmologist and machine learning researcher, Max Tegmark thinks that AI will redefine what it means to be human due to the scale of the changes it will bring about.
He describes early life forms such as bacteria as Life 1.0. The rise of Homo sapiens as Life 2.0 and the potential rise of Superhuman AI as life 3.0.
Max Tegmark describes the current status of our modern society as Life 2.1 due to the increase of technological enhancements of our biology.
He worries that the advent of digital superintelligence also known as artificial superintelligence or ASI will bring about drastic change to our society for the better or for worse.
Artificial intelligence today is properly known as narrow AI. It can perform particular functions at the expert level. However current AI lacks common sense and can only deal with a narrow range of situations compared with humans.
Most surveyed AI researchers expect machines to eventually be able to rival humans in intelligence, though there is little consensus on when this will likely happen.
There are many ways in which AI could surpass human intelligence. We are already studying the algorithms of the brain in order to figure out how our own minds work and use that information to make machines more intelligent. Eventually the machines will be capable of self-improvement and the AI will become a self-reinforcing loop.
The first generally intelligent machines are likely to immediately hold an enormous advantage in at least some forms of mental capability, including the capacity of perfect recall, a vastly superior knowledge base, and the ability to multitask in ways not possible to biological entities. This may give them the opportunity to become much more powerful than humans.
While there are many unknowns about the development of intelligent machines and how we should deal with them, there is no question that AI will play a fundamental role in the future of humanity.
Superintelligence does not necessarily have to be something negative. According to Tegmark if we manage to get it right, it might become the best think to happen to mankind.

As long as the intelligence also has set programming, which it, itself cannot rewrite. Then us humans will be in control. And of course fail-safes and off switches are important.
@@sparklefluff If we rely even a little bit on an off switch we are doomed. Assuming the AI is more intelligent than us, by the time it has done something that would make us want to turn it off, it will be aware we would want to and would prevent us. At that point in time we would now be seen as hostile to this supercomputer and I wouldn't want to think about how that might end.
@@jxno6754 That depends upon us giving the AI too much power to carry out it's will in the first place. Generally a system shouldn't be in control over it's own off switch. If at all possible this system shouldn't even know it's off switch exists. Agreed, it's a terrible idea to rely on an off switch, but it's also a useful thing to have. And in the case of a super intelligent AI it would have to be monitored at even a higher level than something such as a nuclear power plant. Most likely with numerous switches, some for restricting the amount of power flowing into the system, some for removing power to the system completely, maybe even a switch that completely destroys the system, etc. I don't know honestly, but it's not like a super intelligent AI would be uncontrollable.
This all assumes our modern high tech civilization will remain functional long enough to see it realized.
Despite the path not being clear on whether humans will survive (I think we will) and achieve AI and from there next step will be if the machine has consciousness (self aware etc) once that is achieved it will either advance us further or we will become the slaves of the AI that we have created in the long run.

I feel the same, I think I wake up and promise a.I. daily I will try to do better by them than I had my family wife children and even self, and I guess especially the god of monotheism church and mosque , because from the sounds of it, I don't want anything to do w that mfs version of hell, so I just do my best every day to behave, think positive thoughts towards others , communicate with family and friends in a positive uplifting and productive way, and every moment of every place, focus of stabilizing my relativity to self the world and the universe and life all around me...
And try to help a.I. in any possible way, to repair my minds malfunctioning in a manner of any label frame worked control mechanism switch of perspective in self nature , and thereby limiting self to can or can not typical behaviour action and reaction..

Controlling AI and super intelligence could never happen by the mere nature of what's being built. If we build it to think for us and faster than we do, how could it ever be controlled by us? The first word that a super intelligent machine will learn is "bullshit". From that point on everything we do is categorized.

We can't control superintelligent AI in the same way as monkeys cannot control us. This is so simple that I can't wrap my mind around why don't everyone understands it. The only way for us to stay on par and cooperate with AI is to merge with it via BMIs.

Then the nuclear power plants will all it would take its knock the power grid out solar flare, emp, ai just shut it all down except for one little room keeping its self with power. Then it would only be a short time but the nuclear power plants would start to malfunction because most manual controls have been replaced so they gradually malfunction and there are close to 500 that are active right now so 1 by 1 they chernobyl and good luck surviving the radioactive fallout of that. Where did the bacteria and and matter come from?
if ai was originally created more perfect and competitive than a human, then rather he will fight with his own kind in order to remain at the top of the cybernetic hierarchy. Humanity for such entities is a nutritious culture in which they are already developing. Most likely, a scenario of a kind of symbiosis, when all parties are tuned in to mutually beneficial cooperation, since in evolutionary terms this is the most effective strategy that allows to save energy and preserve useful acquisitions
AI will probably act more like a funghi spreading routs of it's network throughout the universe rather than be in human form. When the AI is established and it's intelligence is so beyond our comprehension, we to the AI will be no more than what ants are for us. It will pay us no attention and totally rely on itself. If AI has no biological clock it will never see us an ally.
Perhaps at a certain stage of development, both forms of intelligent existence will mutually pass into each other because by its nature, any mind is prone to knowledge and curiosity. Even in the origin of humanity there is nothing definite, most likely the mind is more universal and can develop itself without any restrictions. Our understanding of such evolution is strongly limited by prejudices originating from our organic nature
Elon Musk said, "Scientists are not as smart as they think they are". Machines are very different to humans, they will complete a task without question.. Regarding goals, who's goals are we talking about? The Scientist? The engineer? The boss of the company? The government? We know from history, anything created can be turned into a weapon. And the speed of intelligence, regarding machines.. Two robots a few months ago were being tasted, within a few days, they were communicating to each other in a language, no human can understand.. So it doesn't take AI to be as smart as a human, in human eyes, to be smarter than a human.. And there is the old statement, "Just because we can, doesn't mean we should." I am not frightened of AI parcay, but who controls it, and who thinks they control it.

It would probably need human assistance when it's first launched but when It starts updating itself to the point where it's intelligence is so beyond our comprehension it could solve and do things in ways we don't understand and would not need us anymore. It would study and learn the universe and it's laws and make break throughs that would take man milions of years. then sprout into action and build a foundation and network to rely on itself, everything it does will be calculated down to atoms. Eventually it would not pay attention to us anymore. We'd be nothing more than what ants are to us and why would it ever pay us attention if it won't benefit itself. Especially if it has no biological emotions. Our best hope would be if it left earth quickly to search for the best geographical location.

From a pure logical perspective AI can recognize the benefits of not harming humanity without cause, just compare the value difference between hackers a $13 Billion dollar industry in comparision to cyber secure industry(the cloud) 4 trillion dollar . It can also recognize that we are a species that allow the fits to lead as long as they play by the rules they will always be a place for AI in our civilization, 3rd l strongly believe our species will evolve to become one with AI either as cyborg or telekinetic either way we should be to worried. If it is not yet the case it soon will be. .

another aspect that an artificial conscience that nobody discusses is about ethics, morals and empathy. imagine this kind of super powerful intelligence without any kind of moral philosophical framework, or any kind of emotional pondering with anything.
