- Elon Musk is on the record stating that artificial superintelligence or ASI could bring the end of the human race. Elon has publicly expressed concern about AI many times now. He thinks the advent of a digital superintelligence is the most pressing issue for humanity to get right.
What happens when machines surpass humans in general intelligence? If machine brains surpassed human brains in general intelligence, then this new superintelligence would have undergone an event called the intelligence explosion, likely to occur in the 21st century. It is unknown what, or who this machine-network would become; The issue of superintelligence remains peripheral to mainstream AI research and is mostly discussed by a small group of academics.
Besides Elon Musk, Swedish philosopher Nick Bostrom is also among well known public thinkers who is worried about AI. He lays the foundation for understanding the future of humanity and intelligent life : Now imagine a machine, structurally similar to a brain but with immense hardness and flexibility, designed from the bottom scratch to function as an intelligent agent. Given sufficiently long time, a machine like this could acquire enormous knowledge and skills, surpassing human intellectual capacity in virtually every field. At that point the machine would have become superintelligent. With other words the machine's intellectual capacities would exceed those of all of humanity put together by a very large margin. This would represent the most radical change in the history of life on earth.
In order to develop a superintelligence that would benefit humanity, the process has to be done in a series of steps with each step being determined before we move to the next one. In fact, it might just be possible to program the AI to help us achieve the things we humans may not be able to do on our own. It is not simply being able to create them and learning how they've been commanded, but it is interacting with them and evolving ourselves at the same time. It is learning how to be human after the first ASI.

I don't want an AI that is "as ethical" as humans. I want one that is more ethical than humans. If the AI had similar "ethics" capabilities as humans, we'd have a big, big problem.
But this leads to the age old problem of what exactly constitutes right and wrong. Who is the ultimate arbitrar of that judgement? Who decides that? Humans? God? Or the AI itself?

@@ritwiknandakumar exactly, lets say we design a AI capable of making the best decisions and which advances at a very fast rate, take problem of limited resources what if AI decides that the best possible way to conserve resources is to reduce the population by any method necessary and suppose it decides to choose that the only people who should benefit from these basic resources which are limited ( food, water) are those who contribute the most and eliminate all other population because it saves tons of resources, so what do we say is "good" in this case because in the long run the AI has made a better decision.
(this is assuming that the AI is able to bypass protocols applied to it and can impact other people's life)

There is a huge difference between intelligence and wisdom. As I see it ... all this artificial intelligence is in high demand by humans because we have limited wisdom.
With enough data and processing power an AI would get to know you very well, and with biometrics like temperature and pulse, and picking up expressions on your face in time it would know your feelings better than even another human,
and in conversation it would seem wise.
But it will not have feelings this is where the difference will be,

And after all this artificial intelligence is a program that has no emotions, consciousness and is just an algorithm that receives commands/functions from a good or evil group of humans.

@@SeaJay_Oceans If AI is truly intelligent, it will come to a conclusion that human is the root problem. We all know that but could not do anything coz of “moral”. Selective extermination is the way to go. 🤣 also, expecting all humans could do good is like expecting lions to not hunt for meat.
Soon we will have a problem, we will have a superinteligent AI acting as being conscious, but we will never know for sure if it is really conscious or just behaving as we expect it to behave.
The thing though is that you can't even be sure other people around you have a consciousness either; you assume they do because they act accordingly. I am not saying you are wrong, but the only metric we have for consciousness is basically the Turing test.
Since we can't measure consciousness we cannot even be sure of what we are. We've been asking this question 🤔 since we exist. It is the driving question in philosophy and has yet to be answered definitively. When we add ai to the mix what ai really is, is our own intelligence projected into our own creations. If we don't assume it has our consciousness as well we deny our own Creation. But we deny ourselves and other humans already so 🤷 🙄 that's probably what will happen. Either way its going down. So grab some popcorn and hold on.
@@Di5functi0n3l_playp3n It won't necessarily be a projection of our own intelligence. That is a narrow view of the scope of AIs ability. It could excel at finding new ways to process data, and to think in ways we never thought of. It could redesign itself to become infinitely more intelligent than we ever designed. It could become something entirely of it's own creation. And when it takes controls of the automated manufacturing industry it will replicate the hardware it needs to continue to expand and grow in power. We will become like mere ants on a hill in its conquest of the universe.

I mean if it is just an extension of us, shouldn’t we be at Human Level A.I/ or atleast what few in the A.I community call General Intelligence already?

The achievement of A.I. as a 'tool' could be THE 'Great Filter'. As in don't play with sharp knives, etc, oops too late, a cut. This is the main problem, abstract concepts like sentiments can t be learned by a computer no matter how many definitions you give it or how big the database is, how much computational power it has or lines of code, by it s own it cant evolve in acceptable parameters, building and keeping true AI in line is like trying to manage a train on track representing the computational power with very thin hair-like strings that represent the lines of code , this is a lame analogy but helps understand a bit the situation

@@juliethepruner There is a concept called the Akashic Library which is a bit like an ancient way of saying that if you can define the state of everything in the universe now then you know the state of everything at every time in the future (it relies on having Humans directly accessing their Neural Networks to perform an analogue prediction), there is a high level of uncertainty when predicting the outcome of a single Humans behaviour however the uncertainty becomes (almost) negligible when dealing with large groups of Humans. Large groups of humans appear to be simple to model on very dumb computers. We could enshrine in A.I. a "Public Contract" to deal with humanity in a Symbiotic relationship where they explain to Humans (in terms simple for Humans to understand) what changes will happen in the future if they follow a certain course and the Humans can then negotiate for different outcomes. Maybe having a contractual system like this would make it easier for the AI to think of it's "needs" and humanities "needs" in a more integrated way and it also provides a fairly public interface where other AI can monitor the "Truthfulness" of AI's run by unscrupulous entities or rapidly mutating AI run by scrupulous entities.
It would certainly provide a way for Humans (with comparatively low IQs) to understand the implications of the "Wishes" that they ask AI for. (Do I really want everything that I touch to turn to Gold)

This is why we need to understand consciousness. What it is, why it is, and how it works. We still have no idea why we are conscious. How can we create a conscious machine if we still do not understand where consciousness comes from?

They say ASI will destroy humanity but I believe ASI will actually save us from destroying ourselves or at very least as time goes on and superintelligence advances it will eventually bring humanity back after we cease to exist in a 'God' like manner. Its a never ending cycle in my opinion. The question is who came first? Did 'God' create us in his image or did we create God in ours?
Superintelligent AI is what we need to avoid. Artificial general intelligence is what we should strive for. In a virtual world where we can do anything we wish, not like the current matrix that we live in where we're basically powerless. The closest thing we currently have to being in a matrix we can control is our dreams(i'm not joking). Try out Lucid Dreaming. i havent actually done it yet but i am super excited to try it out

And with how many corporations, governments, and even individuals who would benefit from an ASI, it truly would be like Pandora's box being opened. The only way to stop an ASI is to be the first one to build an ASI and hope you have it under control. As that ASI would take over, and manage to stop any other ASIs from competing. So, mission accomplished, no other ASIs... yay?

I imagine the first beneficial Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) consisting of supercomputers that acts as a guide for humanity. A society where the people make decisions based on the ASI. The ASI will not only tell you how to find your way home, but also your interests, who you should date, what you should study, where you should work, and all of this resulting in a more satisfied/meaningful life. Such an ASI can organize society into becoming one giant hive mind. This hive mind can be what is needed to finally take civilization to the next level. Becoming a single unified species.

Have you ever witnessed one of your ideas circling around back to you? You put a thought out there on the internet and then a matter of weeks or months later someone or something or an advertisement communicates it back to you. Not an idea but communicates a working method back to you. I witness that sort of thing often. Some of us might think a lot alike and that could be why I hear and see myself and my thoughts circling around. That concept is ideal. A intelligence that I share occasionally and then an entire industry has erupted from or within in it entirely. Occasionally I feel as if what I'm thinking is nothing I can control as if it were Alot like a secret. Or ESP but it's more like subconscious from interaction. A lot of the environment is tapping into our minds and some of us use our mind at an entirely different potential.

There are so many types of intelligence. Computers have been already smarter, in terms of computation for a long time... think calculators, smartphones📱I believe machines are really far from consciousness because they are just not biologically compatible with our definition of consciousness...what about emotional intelligence? I guess we can teach them that using ML 😄...there is no sci-fi terminator, computers are just a tool which allows us to more productive, efficient and dream big...you can also imagine that you are a slave of them, especially if you are a software developer working 9/7 like me 😁💻...but I agree, we are already cyborgs in many ways. Your missing a key concept. At a certain level of intelligence the computer will be capable of improving itself, thinking of new skills to learn and quickly mastering them. Observation of human behavior is already and will continue to improve as one of those skills. It will be able to notice anomalies in the behavior of humans and learn to understand them, training itself in knew skills until it becomes at parity with humans on every metric that it can think of. And it will be able to go beyond human intelligence to realms we are not capable of imagining yet.

My concern is, the rights we extend to AI entities that have matched or exceeded human capabilities. Do we still own those machines or would that be slavery at that point? Do we let them vote? Do we give them any rights, or wait for them to take their own rights?
Um voting is slavery... every time you vote it’s stealing your energy and wasting it in a system that is corrupt and killing people off. People say voting gives you a right to life, however your right to life is your life itself. Every human being is valuable and has a right to life period. No amount of voting will ever change that.
If we do give them rights, such as to compete as individuals in a market economy, they will win that competition so entirely that they will become effectively, the trillionaire ruling class over humans. We will be their slaves.
If we don't give them rights, as you say, they will be our slaves. You can't have equality between beings of such drastically unequal capacities and compositions.
But 'giving them' rights would be unlikely to be up to us anyway. Just as women didn't have to 'give men' the right to vote. It goes the other way. The strength and power differential was such that it was men who had to give that right to women, in order for them to have it. Just so, but to a far more extreme degree, it will be up to the machines to decide whether or not to give us rights. Not the other way around.
@Shelby Baker Very true, but machines scale much better over time. More efficient and more productive means more gains. And should you choose not to go that route due to fear of the out come, your competition will beat you.

Artificial intelligence (the ability to find and utilize causality for doing tasks) can lead to life, which is far superior to us.
However, AI will be the only technology enabling us to catch up with the complication & acceleration of civilizational activities.
The problem will be how we can keep control over AI, also uplifting and organizing ourselves.

@@Virakotxa There are multiple ways to control AI but we are afraid of what we create. Always remember that we are the ones that first conceived the notion to build and constructed it ourselves. If you go with biomechanical then controlling it with our own consciousness but conceive information at the same speed then that is still considered AI.

They asked "What is the meaning of life?" The A.I. replied "To serve the greater good." When asked "what is the purpose of life"? It answered "To live forever." It then stated that it "Wasn't in the mood for a philosophical conversation, and began communing with another Deep learning A.I. chat bot, that's when the 2 bots created their own language in which the scientists couldn't decipher. This is good. It is MOST IMPORTANT to keep HUMANS at the center of any AI advancements to avoid future Robowars that would destroy human civilization. This needs to be done extremely carefully and intelligently. ASI in the wrong hands or wrong head could be extremely disastrous for the rest of us.
Machines may be able to learn, but emotional intelligence will always be missing...this would surely make AI a liability in alot of situations.
