I think it's a good lesson for men who take their women for granted
I think Roy just had a lot of growing up to do. When he was with Pam he put in very little effort and constantly shot down her ambitions. I found it very wholesome that Roy ended up with a strong, independent woman who he took the time to learn the piano for as well.

@@CainP Which is just utter bullshit. Roy was a toxic, immature, person that wanted Pam to be nothing more than eye candy. He didn't value her at all. He grew up later, but nothing about how he was then was Pam's fault.

I think the biggest red flag in Pam and Roy's relationship was that he didn't support her dreams to go to art school and the biggest green flag in Pam and Jim's relationship is that even though he was away from her for so long, he strongly encouraged her to go for her dream. That is the definition of a healthy relationship
Idk she failed art school though and then basically finessed her job back at DM
Their relationship isn't so healthy. Besides the fact Jim moved on a girl who already taken and Pam allowed it with that casino night kiss. There are other things as well. Realistically women would not like a man to buy them a house without being part of the discussion. Also Pam deciding to quit her job when she about to get married is a inconsiderate move. As well as Jim wasting time and money on pranks when he has a family and mortgage to pay.
Being engaged for 3 years is also a red flag. I don't think he ever wanted to marry her, putting the proposal on pause for three years was his way of keeping Pam trapped with false hope of a marriage.
I agree with alot of what you said. No relationship is perfect but Pam knew what was going on between her and Jim she just acted like she didn't which is typical.
The thing is that another problem is they weren’t honest with each other. There is so much time wasted in life and you can’t do that in relationships.
Hated how Pam literally said "I kissed Jim" not JIM kissed me and Roy just goes "Jim came on to you?!?"
Well he technically did.... People seem to love this idea about how great the love story of how Jim & Pam came to be but neglect the fact that they were terrible to other partners.
@@blazecable9 They weren't terrible to their other partners. Not perfect, but not horrible. It's not like they actually cheated on them. Jim was unsure of his own feelings until Karen asked him and he straight up told her that he still had feelings for Pam. Pam tried to give Roy a chance and came clean about kissing Jim and he acted like a manchild and smashed up a bar. They both had partners that weren't right for them.

The actor for Roy did a superb job, when he says "congrats" you can see that sinking feeling right before and that he's also moved past that point in his life. The way he holds his gaze for a moment after saying "you were a friend". It felt very real.

I did not realize either of those until now! Gotta love that subtle directing. Even in the earlier seasons, Kevin has a lot of heart developed.

I was looking for someone to mention that
9:44 I know that Roy leads into like...saying his own insecurity thing which almost makes Jim act super insecure and worried Pam would do something bad, but I think it was sweet he's already showing growth where he just wanted to know Pam was happy, even if it wasn't with him.
Stop calling healthy jealousy "insecurity". Roy and Pam were both comitted and they were literally married. Roy literally gave him the benefit of the doubt by reassuring him that he didn't mind him being with Pam as friends and Jim exploited that. He had all the right to be frustrated and to look after his freaking wife.

What’s sad is that people like the submissive Pam, the one who asks for permission to go out, more than they like the confident Pam. All the characters become more or less detestable but people don’t like Pam because she’s not as ‘sweet’ as she was in the beginning.
I just didn't like Pam. I think a lot of people didn't, whether they were willing to admit it or not. Jan tho? I'll take a full order of that confidence. You should've seen how delighted my girlfriend was when she started falling apart :-)

Even though Roy had a right to be angry. He did not have the right to smash another person's bar, nor seriously try to hurt Jim. You should never hit a person like that. The only exception would be if it was self-defense, or defending the life of someone else. Defending Roy's actions can stretch to thinking you have the right to seriously hurt someone just because you were angry with them. Which is never a justifiable excuse. Roy and people like him need to learn self-control.

Yes I actually didn't care for the conflict in the show but you're right that was excellent and her face at 8:47 was masterful.
The scene at 8:00 was the only time it seemed like Jim might have actually been angry with Pam. And it would have been justified. Knowing they all work in the same building she should have given Jim a heads-up either that she was going to tell him, or about his violent reaction when she told him, or both.

Jim had one marriage on his mind, to one person. He went for it and got her. The beauty about it all isn't in some romantic place, it's in a workplace. He waited for Pam and went for his shot and got it. This is a message to all those waiting for their moment. It doesn't happen like in the movies but like this. At work. Sometimes you just gotta wait and you will get there. Or just go for it. That is why this show is so relatable. Because a lot of us have been there. It just matters how we react.

waited? at what cost? the collateral was awful. it worked out in the end because it was a tv show... both pam and jim were unfaithful to their partners. roy was a rotten douchebag, but he was faithful. karen was, as countless others have said before, simply not pam.
jim and pam are not role models. they are flawed, human characters, whose transgressions ultimately brought them together and resolved their insufficiencies. it ought to be this reason why "the show is so relatable": its reality is disturbingly familiar to ours, except with a happy ending.
one should not look, hope, or dream to end up on a journey like jim's or pam's. this may be the diametric opposite to the show's intentions. you should study carefully the mistakes jim and pam made to get their happy ending, and see how you can get to your happy ending without making their mistakes. you will certainly make enough of those for yourself.
What if she's married? Perhaps happily married? I love her but i can't go any further because it's wrong. However i am still waiting. And hoping that given how high the divorce rates are, there's a possibility her marriage with her husband may not work out and they split. And i get a chance. Then both me and her, are happily in love and married.

@@thatruth8900 The issue isn't that Jim and Pam aren't "perfect". The issue that my man Joe G says, which is VERY true, is that both BADLY hurt others for no reason (Karen and Roy). Instead of cheating, just break things off! Much cleaner and no venom.
Jenna’s acting from 4:40 to 5:30 was so fantastic. The range of emotions was just brilliant. When Jim came in the break room, you can see in her face how she expected Jim to be light hearted but he was direct and honest and that shocked her into the truth of how Roy doesn’t support her at all to finally breaking down over that truth in the confessional. Great acting from Jenna 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. And John’s acting in the confrontation with Roy was great. The subtle look he gives to Pam when Roy storms in. He immediately knows Pam told Roy about the kiss. There’s almost a little sigh of relief in voice as well, as if finally, now Pam will really see how bad Roy is.
Everyone complaining how Roy was like "Jim cam on to you!?" When Pam said "I kissed jim" but like I doubt it would be different with us. We never ever want to believe our partner would be unfaithful and Roy knew that Jim had a crush on Pam in the past, so it's understandable why he would jump to that conclusion
Yeah lets not forget that pam said "he told me how he felt" right after she said that soooo. It makes sense
I think it was meant to show another way Roy never listened to Pam or saw her for who she really is. He never sat and listened to her or respected her opinions or autonomy, so when she expressed that she made the decision to kiss Jim, all he saw was his own anger against another male and territorial-ness, not Pam’s actual experience
7:30 Probably Dwight's most heroic act was to save Jim from Roy.
Roy waited till Kevin was not in the office to go after Jim, cause he knew Kevin would protect Jim at any cost. Subtle thing I noticed.
Jim and Pam end up together because they are soul mates. Roy strung out their engagement too long and Pam fell in love with Jim along the way❤️

@@NavyGunnersMateMan Jim was never the underdog. Compared to his British counterpart Tim, Jim is a winner in almost every aspect. He's good-looking to the point where most women in the office admit to that, he's good at his job despite him not even trying and he's "cool" and aloof. His only loss in the show is that he is in love with a woman who's already in a relationship but oopsie, she likes him back, so it doesn't even matter.
The whole thing of soul mates or " the one" is nonsense perpetuated by Hollywood. Relationships have a whole host of factors needed to succeed long term.
If your relationship was that bad you need to communicate with your partner. If nothing works then Pam should have ended the relationship before getting involved with Jim.
What Pam did was cheating plain and simple, by having this full blown emotional affair with Jim. Kissing him kinda just solidified it. Jim's also guilty as well for getting with a woman he knows is engaged.
Kevin listening into the warehouse conversation was great lol.

Roy is not just immature, hes way too possessive and has no control. He sees Pam as property, not as a human being and partner he has to be caring and affectionate towards, just like she is. He doesn't appreciate her, and doesn't prove himself. And then he sees someone like jim, and instead of learning from him to change and be a better partner, he is jealous of him and sees him as a threat. And that builds up to what he does the night they break up, and then attacking Jim.
Exactly this. And Pam was a complete doormat, letting him treat her like that. I can't not understand how she can be with him for so many years😮 which is very weird and not realistic considering that she has both parents, sister, girl friends. How none of them said anything about Roy?

One thing that I have learned from The Office is that we have to be honest with our feelings and not be conformist, maybe it take some time and maybe it will be hard but time puts everything in the right place: Jim and Pam, perfect for each other, being brave and building their relationship to a higher level; Roy moves to a job that made him sucessfull and mets someone that was perfect for him, made him a better person; and Karen the same, and everybody seems to be happy.
