Kyle, i’m sorry to hear this is happening to you. I had Guillen beret syndrome when I was 18 years old. That was in 1969. I had a very rough time too much information to put in this comment. Of course now I just turned 69 years old and I’ve been riding bicycles steadily after my recovery in 1970. I would like to talk to you about my experience I think you’ll find it encouraging. I’ve been watching your videos for some time now and enjoy them and find them extremely helpful.

Right on brother Travis! I believe it'd be good for both of you. I can't say "I know how it feels:" But I'm certain that some of us have our more than our share of disabilities. It was good to hear of your recovery, and I pray the same for Kyle.

Boy do I agree with this comment!!!! Your INSTINCTS are something that is more important to listen to than any doctor or tests. Numerous times in my family we have been through medical situations where instincts disagree with what doctors were saying. Like for example they can't find anything wrong. But, our instincts kept telling us otherwise. With much persistence, and like in this story, sometimes eventually things go so bad they can't be ignored. Well Done Kyle! You are much more aware of your body than average people, and you listened to your instincts!!!!!

It’s a terrible, scary feeling when you know something is wrong with you and you don’t know what it is. Medical professionals telling you it’s “all in your head” just adds to the frustration. I wish you all the best in your recovery. Keeping a good thought for you. Your videos are helpful to many people.

Oh my gosh. As I was watching this, before you mentioned Guillain-Barre I thought "dang, it sounds like what I went through." I traveled to Nigeria in 1986 and overnight woke up with limited ability to walk, like my whole nervous system was confused. I couldn't walk, my balance was off. My mind was fine, but I was exhausted and slurring words, I couldn't even form them without looking like I was grimacing within a few days. They had to fly me back to the US with a DR, and here they did spinal taps, CT scans, everything. After 3 months I was walking almost normal and could start to write again, but I had to learn how to do my handwriting over.
You are in my thoughts and prayers! I made a full recovery after around 9-12 months. 6 months in I could walk, almost dance like normal, and my handwriting didn't look too bad. The Drs had no idea how to treat it so it was all guesswork. The CDC called me every year for years to follow up to see how it was progressing, how I was doing, because they didn't have much experience with it. I had to go to occupational therapy and one of the biggest frustrations was my short term memory. I knew I knew a word, but couldn't get it. They did all kinds of memory tests but told me it was fine, but they didn't understand that it wasn't like before!
I can tell you this, and everyone has a different experience, but for me even now, 36 years later, when I get overtired my speech can slur a bit, I battle memory issues off and on, but I refuse to worry or let it stop me. Everything else recovered.
I found you because after all that time, I am riding a bike again and LOVING IT! I never tried until a few weeks ago. And I am looking at getting a Blackbird. So yes, there is HOPE.
I hope and pray this is the case for you as well. Well done for posting this!

Sadly, finding Dr's that are willing to listen as well as have any ideas that dont jump out in Lab results.. I suffered for years with Psuedo Tumor Cerebri before I struck the Lotto randomly by going to the ER on the right day at the right time (After 20-30 or more visits) to take all information and put it together.
Glad you have answers, that was the hardest part for me!

I understand how you're feeling I've been trying to get back on my bike after a second brain tumour last year. I've got to learn to walk again. While I was I'm hospital in rehab I met a young guy who developed GBS after covid vax . I'm slowly getting there. I've got a bbshd and a Trek fuel for it to go on so I'll be on the trails soon. You're young and determined and that's a good place to be ,thanks for all the uploads they've helped me through my recovery.

It is frustrating, difficult, and a bit scary when the medical people don't know what's happening to you. Thankfully you have a diagnoses and a treatment plan. Not to mention a good attitude and people that care about you. You have always been very giving of your knowledge on ebikes and now you are being so open about your illness. This will help others too in ways you can't imagine now. I wish you a speedy recovery, be well.

I hope you have a speedy recovery, and please keep us updated on your progress.

Sorry to hear about your situation. The lack of a solid diagnosis is a real concern and when you feel that the doctors where you are do not get it, then it is time to spend the money and the time to get yourself to a teaching hospital affiliated with a high ranked med school or one of the clinics like The Mayo Clinic or the Cleveland Clinic. The Mayo has a branch in Scottsdale, AZ. These clinics have lots of experience with unusual medical situations of which yours is clearly that. I am sure that there are excellent facilities in LA or San Francisco. Best of luck in your recovery!

It’s clear from your work that you enjoy enriching others’ lives and I’ve no doubt that your velomobile and other efforts will give you yet another avenue to help folks in similar circumstances. That sounds like when I was 30 and had a stroke. I went to the fridge and got so dizzy and could not keep my balance and then it came back. I went to the ER and they said I was fine and they could not see anything and they were not going to call in a Dr. for an MRI so told me to come back to the hospital in the morning for an MRI. I woke up twice in the night and could not keep myself for falling over. I waited for the appointment in the morning and went in and got a cat scan not an MRI as the machine was needed for an accident victim. After they did a cat scan they saw there was a problem and sent me to another hospital for an MRI and they found out I had a stroke. It was a horrible feeling and I feel for your story when you know something is wrong but Drs say you are fine. It can be psychologically damaging to your trust in Drs. I am glad you are safe and I really hope you get recovered. I still deal with meatal health issues realizing I'm not invincible and could die at any moment. Hugs man!!

Sorry to hear about your experience, but I am happy that you have made progress toward recovery. I am appalled when doctors say it's all in your head. It usually just means the doctor doesn't know what the issue is. Even if it were true, it's something you're experiencing and needs addressing.

So sorry to hear about your troubles. When I listened to your story I thought you had Lyme disease. I didn't know anything about Gillain Barre syndrome. The problem with modern medicine today is they run on an assembly line mentality. They use tests to determine diagnosis and once you fit into a set of symptoms your treatment is automatic...Next Case! I am guessing you never developed a long term relationship with a primary physician. That IMO is what is missing. If you had had one, he/she would know that you are not just making up a story and would have taken your case more seriously. Do take care of yourself first. We can wait for the next video...:-)

On another note: when I lost the ability to ride a bike, in addition to recovery efforts, I bought a recumbent trike. It isn't a bike, but I could still pedal, and it has its own joys. (I see you're already thinking along those lines! Good-o.)

As someone with nerve issues (undiagnosed), I can understand the frustrations of doctors not having answers (or even believing there is a problem). It's very scary to lose feeling in your hands and feet. I haven't felt 50% of my left foot for over a decade now. A couple years ago, I started losing some feeling in my right foot and left hand. Progressed to my right hand. I get completely drained of energy very easily. What has made a huge improvement for me is cutting out carbohydrates and processed foods. Like CUTTING THEM OUT... not just reducing them. Between that, near infrared therapy, sublingual B12, NAC, and a very good probiotic (Seed), I am starting to see improvements. As you have discovered, you have to be your own advocate. Keep doing your research and question your doctors (respectfully). Wishing you a full recovery!

Wow - a fellow GBSer with an ebike ! I got gbs at 58. Started in my feet and went straight up - paralyzed and on a vent in 48 hours. God awful experience, months in hospital and more months in Rehab. BUT after about a year symptoms resolved an was able to walk out of the rehab. After more months, strength and most feeling returned. Last week I bought an ebike ! I still have some tingling and a bit of neuropathy so I have to be extra careful, but it’s doable even for an old goat like me. I’m 78.
I learned a lot from your channel (thx) and I know like most gbsers near full recovery is possible . It just takes time and patience. Again thanks and I know soon you’ll be back on your bike.

my heart goes out to you. I got an ebike because I had a pretty bad knee injury and I lost a lot of my mobility. It was tough for me to cope with the fact I 'couldn't ride a bike'. I found your videos as I was learning about ebikes.Having an ebike has gotten me to a place where I'm better today and I'm so grateful for it. I've gone through the chronology of your videos and am just finding this video now. I'm so sorry, in a very small small way I know how you must feel. The human spirit and body is so resilient. I struggled navigating the heath-care system for 10 years and endured 4 nerve conductive studies before I was able to get my diagnosis from a neurologist who went further to test my muscles. I am happy to hear that you are on your way to recovery and I look forward to seeing you ride again, hopefully soon. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this...autoimmune is no joke. SO frustrating when you're having such serious health issues and no one seems to understand/believe it's the real deal. So good to hear you finally got doctors to listen and respond. There is no test for them to know what triggered this but it sure would be good to understand. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.

Around the same time as your first signs of something not being right, my wife was also sensing a mysterious out of sortsness about herself. Eventually multiple myeloma was the diagnosis. So likewise we are engaged in a long and slow treatment aimed at a recovery which only time will tell. Hang in there and let's hope slow and steady wins this race.😊👍🚴‍♂️

Thanks for sharing your story. As a passionate e-bike rider who suffered an injury, I can appreciate the frustration of not being able to get out and feel the experience of biking. The fact that this syndrome was hard to identify and uncertainness of the disease must be heart wenching. I Wish You Strength through this ordeal. You mean a great deal to your viewers and the e-bike community. I join the army of viewers who pray for your a full and fast recovery.

Best of luck with a quick recovery.
Also if there is a lot of soldering going on at your shop. Make sure you get tested for lead poisoning. A lot of low quality solders contain lead and exposure over time can build up. It’s often overlooked. When the solders containing lead are heated up they become vapor & it can enter your body through your lungs and build up that way.
But hopefully your doctors can give you a definitive diagnosis very soon

So sorry for what you are going through, sounds like you are on the right path now, good luck. I sometimes have dizzy spells due to a medication I take. I have for several years now ridden a catrike with electric assist. I feel perfectly safe, can’t tip over and if my legs give out I can throttle my way home. It’s not a MTB, but is still a lot of fun to ride. Best wishes on your recovery!

Hope you make good progress, stuff happens. About a year ago, I took off on my daily 10 mile ride. I woke up hours later in the emergency room with a rhino rocket up my nose and some road rash. Don't know what happened. Thought I was fine, but it turns out I have a massive tear in my left rotator cuff. Bike had a broken brake lever, no other damage.
Makes me kinda nervous on my daily ride and I stay off the streets as much as I can. But I gotta ride anyway. Hang in there.

Man I'm so sorry this happened to you, that sounds horrible. I've heard GBS is a side effect popping up very frequently post jab. If that's the case, I hope you report it to VARS. That system necessitates self-reporting. I hope you recover quickly.

Found your channel by chance when looking for reviews of motorized bikes, which I'm shopping for due to my own chronic/unexplained illness/debility.
It's important that awareness be raised, and the voices of people in situations like yours or mine be heard, especially as so often (as in your story) our concerns are dismissed, and diagnosis and treatment delayed or even denied until things have progressed much farther than they had to.
Thank you for sharing your story. Blessings of renewed health to you.

Hi Kyle. I have been enjoying your channel for several months and you helped me decide to get an ebike. I appreciated how helpful your videos are and the unbiased information you provided on your channel. I decided to pick Area 13 to deal with because of you and your content never realizing that area 13 was very close to where I live. I ended up going to area 13 and found that is a great place and the your staff is very helpful and competent. I bought something there that was the same price I would pay online. I pray that you can make a full recovery and can continue your life as before. 30 years ago I had a friend that lived in the Nevada City area that I rode to work with every day that came down with your malady. He was much older than you when he came down with it and it hit him much faster and harder than you. He recovered after about 8 months or so and started riding to work with us again and continued to improve to a full recovery.

Great job at informing people about this syndrome. Get well soon. Because of you and a few others I was able to convert an ebike with pas only to one with throttle control. I am an old guy with some medical experience and a working knowledge of electronics. I have also been aware of some GB syndrome patients with 100 percent recovery within about 1 year. Seems to me that your speech is pretty clear and wish the best and a speedy recovery. I am glad you had the where with all to be persistent with doctors and the hospital. Best wishes. And by the way this was an excellent well conceived video.

Hi Kyle. I've been watching your videos for sometime. I've experienced very similar feelings for many years until finally after 7 years a neurologist figured out that I had CIDP. It is nerve damage to the Myelin sheath that protects the nerves in your peripheral nervous system. It is considered a autoimmune disease and basically is like MS but doesn't attack the CNS. Anyway, I listened to many of your symptoms which resembled much of what I experienced over the years. It is a relief to find out what our problems stem from and I can totally relate to your experiences. No, what we are experiencing is real and we aren't crazy which is a relief in itself to get a diagnosis. My disease is not curable but treatable and it has let my mind be at ease somewhat knowing what I am dealing with. Good luck to you and there is some hope for us all.

Kyle, so sorry for you buddy. You will get better in time. I ordered a BlackBird from you and just before delivery I started having dizzy spells and could no longer ride a bike. I had to cancel my BlackBird with you, I was so sad about that. I am 74 now, life is cruel some time. Your family will keep you going.

Im glad you are still fighting. As long as your are on this side of the grass, there is always a possibility of it being a great day.
I have many of the same symptoms that you described.
I had my break in April of 2022. I went into to hospital not being able to talk or able to walk/stand. I spent 3 days in the hospital and then sent home. It took 5 months and 5 Neurologists to diagnose my disability.
The worst part was at first being told the same thing until specialist got involved. When I got my formal diagnosis, we found outthatI have F.N.D. (Functional Neurological Disorder). In my case it mimicks 8 of ten markers of a stroke. I am only 50yrs old. Took speech therepy and physical therapy. Up until January of this year I could only speak 3 to 4 words at a time. My body no longer regulates heat well.
But i am still above ground and I luv to ride. So as long as I am still breathing, i will try to hit the pedals.
Keep up the fight. Im rooting for you!
Thank you for sharing your story with us.

I am so glad they manged to help you early enough. Well done the Docs and their team.
A friend of mine past away about 10 years ago here in the UK from what was described as a "nerve degenerative disorder". I did not press his wife, who was still very sad, for too many details. They kept it hidden where they could from most of those they knew.
He had one and a half years from onset, it is a tough way to go for sure.
It is heartwarmingly impressive how much our medical science has advanced in some areas
