    I think mixing and mastering is not bad idea on headphones. The trick is to not let it be the final sound you are looking for. For example after I master on my headphones, I listen again in my car, my lap top speakers, and my phone speakers. Then I go back and make adjustments.

    • @VoxlMusic

      Exactly, I usually mix on headphones because I can hear the details much better.

    Here's the one reason I'm interested in these. Spacial audio. It's actually possible for bedroom producers to mix in surround which is kinda nuts.

    • @gehteuchnichtsan7911
      @gehteuchnichtsan7911 11 месяцев назад +4

      Spatial audio is just a gimmick where it simulates the direction of sound. surround sound is something completely else. You need more channels than just stereo.

    I just mixed my whole Synthwave Pop track on Gen 2 AirPods. I didn't turn my HS7's on once and I have to say, it really helped me tune my kick and find the perfect space for it.

    They don't actually boost the harsh S sounds, the frequency response actually has a pretty sizable dip on the high mids. They're good for producing if you don't wanna focus on the mix that much because it really does tame a bit of the harsher high mids, but for mixing I use them with sonarworks sound ID to correct the frequency response. When you combine that with having noise cancellation on + a plugin like waves NX, you actually get a seriously good option for mixing.

  • @peekpen
    @peekpen 2 года назад +5

    You can mix in the headphones with these just fine. The "mastering" phase is where you will have to test your mix on all possible sound reproduction scenarios anyway. I do test on monitors only a couple of times in the mixing phase but it is relatively infrequent as my routine is intentionally time managed to work with speed and above all simplicity. Save perfection...whatever that is.... till the last few days. My god, there's good mixes coming out with having been mixed solely in ear buds now. Get your body of work finished and released. addendum: 6:25 I personally see noise cancelling and the subsequent "hiss" as prohibitive to mixing all together. He says we can not remove this. If this is indeed true then for the price that Apple is asking they must correct this for audio mixers...."static" audio mixers and not spontaneous audio mixers, aka DJs.

  • @rubiooibur8534
    @rubiooibur8534 2 года назад +2

    your argument on 4:18 makes absolutely no sense. Every HI-FI headphone boosts certain frequencies. With your logic I shouldn't hear any RUclips video with headphones because of harshness? Also... IF I can hear the harshness on these wouldn't that be a plus because then I can adjust my mix and make the harsh s sounds go away or at least reduce them? Just my two cents

    heres the video summarized:
    don't run in them they're awful for running
    they accumulate sweat in certain places because of the use of metal
    they're not really good for mixing/mastering in a sense
    great & amazing for on the go where you're not trying to make anything final, just trying to slap some ideas down
    great for in bed producing where you don't want to bother anybody
    there's always a little tiny hissing noise that doesn't go away

    Doesnt the BT delay create a challenge to use them for music creation? While playing an instrument-- example today when i play a midi keyboard in Logic --with the headphones when i play a key on the keyboard there is a delay for me to hear the sound which makes it unusable. It would be great if Apple's studio version using RF instead of BT so there was no delay like in-ear monitors

      BTW, I have these headphones and they are good as Jon mentioned for listening as a standard Apple user would. I agree that there isn't a lot of value in the studio. FYI the $39 cable that connects the headphones to the Mac helps with the Bt delay but the sound quality isn't as good as the wirless which reduces the value to a producer even more. I also noticed that the head phones sound better on the iPhone and there is more accessibility settings to customize the sound even more than on a Mac

    Great video. I was blown away at how clearly I could distinguish bass and sub-bass frequencies on these headphones. I’m sure they’re using some emulation technology to “fake” the sub bass content but at least you can hear it in the proper context. A good song I use to test for subbass is the Fat Joe - Make It Rain instrumental by Scott storch. The sub-bass on that song almost never shines through on any other pair of headphones. In fact it barely shines through on my Adam’s monitors if my subwoofer is turned off.

    • @niels_on3010
      @niels_on3010 3 года назад

      I think its not more fake than others. Maybe its more realistic due to the measurements under the headphones to compensate the individual physical shape of ears and different space which has huge impacts on the frequency response. In my option this is a major drawback of headphones. Everyone can have a flat in-room response with speakers when used with absorption and digital correction like sonarworks, but even if you using calibrated headphones with sonarworks it doesn't care of the influence of your earshape, the Airpods Max does this. Normal headphones are measured and calibrated on a head model with callibrated mics inside but not inside individual ears and thats a problem..

    • @ChaceBonanno
      @ChaceBonanno Год назад

      @@yungctrlfreak Actually, no. It won’t be like that for every Bluetooth headphone. There are different codecs used for Bluetooth. APTx LL (Low Latency) is the lowest latency codec, sub 30 milliseconds. Whatever you’re using to transmit the audio, along with the actual headphones receiving the audio need to support the codec. Apple’s airpods and Beats don’t support APTx LL. So look into APTx LL headphones and transmitters if you really wanna use wireless headphones to monitor without too much latency. It’s not worth imo, and I think most ppl come to the same conclusion. Wireless in-ear monitoring is very practical for live sound, but not as much for a recording or production studio.
