Glad someone is covering Clash of Steel. Big fan of Flames of War and Team Yankee. This game looks interesting and especially would be looking forward to integrating these fantastical tanks to a little FoW. I know Battlefront has been teasing that we will get "Checkpoint Charlie", the early war (Or mid war?) WW3 equivalent, at some point and hope a lot of these tanks, especially those soviet ones, make it into that game! Might pick up this starter in particular at some point. Cheers and happy wargaming!
Great report. The voice over and editing makes a very good flow. Much better than a Learn to play.. videos about this game. The video confirms what I thought - hellcats are killed by anything that hits them (almost). Same goes for german Tiger I, which are I suppose old tanks for the purpose of this game It seem that most fight are big firepower vs low armor score Also why didn't Americans bring T28 first. Probably it would mean more units for the reserve, but T28 would survive much longer.
Been looking forward to a batrep of this, have both starters on pre-order! Love how you kept rolling the soviet defense rolls even though there was no way to equal or beat the US anti tank values a lot of the time 😂
Thanks for the battle report. It looks like the balance might be a bit off between the forces. A few more games should make that clear. Maybe the British vs German is a better match? Soviet horde just have many more dice to check whilst the Americans can lose after a few bad rolls.
also with this setup the everything is in range. The table is 120x180 cm and T28 range is 120 cm. Scenarios with forces starting in opposite corners seem to be better,
I'll be interested to hear your opinion on the balance of the two sides once you've got enough games under your belt, and whether the better tanks of the West actually make up for their lack in numbers.
I think losing the two American hellcats and then the reserves not coming on until quite late made a huge difference. When all the tanks started getting some shots off things were definitely better. Like you say, would definitely need a few more games, but it felt pretty well balanced towards the end even if the scores were so different (mostly due to my terrible tactics 🤣)
The hay fields are made from a welcome door mat. All we did was cut them into small pieces and you have some instant fields! You can also use carpet tiles to represent ploughed fields.
I’ve played World of Tanks and there are similarities but this game has a lot more depth and rules. You could use the tanks from WoT and Flames of War but the rules are different.
Battlefront are releasing a Leviathans pdf for Flames of War (FoW) late war. Just how many vehicles from the set make it into the pdf i don't know but it's due for release 02/05/24
I was interested in this but balance wise this looks particularly issue prone. The T29 essentially auto pennetrating the T54-1 in the front whilst the reverse can at best cause a bail as an example. Not to say the soviets should have won harder but I'm concerned that this game would devolve to a game of whack-a-mole.
The soviets possess more tanks, so theoretically they can more easily flank the Americans and hit their weaker side armour Edit - also iirc a T29 is a heavy tank and the T 54-1 is a medium tank so there's a weight class thing there
overall .. im looking forward to getting both starter sets .. and have already 3d printed extra tanks with destroyed smoke markers to add to the turret rings
Pretty fast play once you get the hang of it. For me though it suffers from the same FOW/Team Yankee issue of tanks rowed up side by side. Shame. I like the models though.
I got both starter sets and this one is more unbalanced then the german vs brit one. Buy the soviets are easy to kill, you get alot more of them so movement is essential for the them where the other nations fo have the ability to stand and shoot
I really do like the models, but much like FOW the soviets is the 'participation award' faction. Gameplay wise, since it was a vehicles only game, I was hoping for more detailed/interesting mechanics with more depth to it. So, this imo feels very uninteresting unfortunately. I appreciate the modeling opportunities though.
Vey much looking forward to getting this game…
Nice one! Thanks for watching 👊

Check the Flames of War page, there you can get a free PDF Leviathans to intergrate those Tanks into regular Flames of War games if you like.

Glad you liked it. Yeah, we just couldn't stop ourselves lol

A few more games needed for sure. I really shouldn't have rushed in with those Hellcats. I always do silly things like that 🤣

Great battle report, game looks interesting. Thanks Lee.

what material is used for the hay fields? i have been seeing this every bat rep and cant find info on it. :(

hellcat immediately being destroyed after rushing objective... where... where have i heard that one before?
Every time I rush in I pay the price ... I never learn 🤣
Does this integrate with any of their other games or is it entirely its own game.

How do you determine what counts as a side shot?

Really nice game!!
It was great fun, I love the 15mm scale.
@@tabletopskirmishgames the end score should have been 39 points so over double the yanks

issue of tanks rowed up side by side - what do you mean by that?

The soviets are supposed to be a weak faction?
