  • The brain injury that caused Cerebral Palsy(CP) cannot be cured. Many children with CP do get better, with therapy or age. A child with CP cannot be cured but there can be dramatic improvement in quality of life and health, with family involvement and therapy.

Thank you for the information. As a parent of an adult living with CP, I can tell you that it is a life long effort on the part of family to keep them moving their body.
Once a period of immobilization occurs (such as with a hospital stay), it really tightens those muscles and ligaments even more so. We will be working hard to reclaim movement and mobility this next week. Nutrition
Is a key factor in helping the body heal. We will be focusing on protein for muscle building, fruits for vitamins and minerals and vegetables for a healthy body, mind, and gut.

@@Nayi_Disha When serial casting is no longer useful and they've aged out of botox, what's your experience with tendon surgery. Not gonna lie, this scares me more than the hip surgery. Her CP only affects her calf muscles. The rest is developmental so what is the pain factor. She can't tell me.

Is there much support out there when they become adults? My daughter is only 10 and has ORS funding so everything is free until 21 and she's surrounding by amazing experts and schooling etc. I worry that she has a change of 'teams' every few years depending on age. What happens when they are older?

@@anneanne9009 I had been advised years ago to make a legal change through the courts for me to be the guardian and decision maker. I thought that was silly because I was already Mom and he lived with me. 34 years old now, in a program/apartment (that literally has not fixed a broken toilet seat in 4 weeks).... my son loves me and appreciate s me, but is in denial that he needs any physical therapy. (Recently convinced him after blood clots and two years of
Trying). I'm trying to find a better 'independent living' closer to me that will be better and Is covered by insurance. It will be a very slow process, as many family style places have no openings. I'm sorry to to say, that no, there is nor much help as our children with CP age. I feel like I have to fight for any little right.

Thankyou for this. No it can't be cured but yes it can be managed. Nothing is more stressful than pretending there's a 'cure'

You are right, there is no cure. I just want to help him maintain the ability to keep walking with a supportive device. We all need to keep moving our bodies. Walking benefits nearly every cell in the body.

@@susan3200 I agree. It's super important that whatever movement they have is encouraged and sometimes even forced. It feels mean sometimes but it has to be done. Nothing feels worse than when they have the flu etc and they just want to curl up and sleep but you need to push them anyway because congestion and CP are a bad mix.
