    This is such a classic Mathcore/Hardcore album!
    if you ask me, this band has a flawless discography. their last album "This Bright And Beautiful World" is just as good.
    These guys definitely helped me cope with Every Time I Die breaking up

    I’m 10 minutes in and I already know where this is going. How you listen to Sweet Machine for the first time and don’t come away with a better reaction than that is beyond me. It seems a lot was lost on you, and that’s fine, it just kinda blows my mind. 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

    Greyhaven are GOATed
    Edit: I think you would probably like their latest release better. I think overall it is a better album, but I definitely also like Empty Black more than you did so🤷‍♂I feel like their newer album embraces their chaotic nature a lot more than this one did, and is a more mature album overall.

    31:12 I'm glad that White Lighters touched you, it's been a very important song for me and it has a deep meaning to the vocalist. First of all the name of the track "White Lighters" is a reference to the 27 club in which multiple musicians have died from heroin overdose or other drug related deaths (Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Layne Staley) and were found to have a white bic lighter on their possession.
    The vocalist wrote the song I believe about his girlfriend/ex girlfriend who struggled with heroin addiction (Darling, why you poking holes in yourself) (Her condition is changing my state of mind). And the reason it's been important to me is because my little sister was a heroin addict for nearly a decade and myself and my family struggled to try to help her while watching her deteriorate. She is 4+ years clean and loving life now but this song always holds a special place in my heart, and I'm glad it touched you as well.

    Too bad you were not vibing with this one Drew. But as you alluded to, you can't force it and your reaction is geniune. For me Greyhaven are one of the most exciting bands in the the scene right now.
    You asked what Greyhaven do better than any band. In my opinion Greyhaven are masters of seamlessly shifting from extremely chaotic instrumentation into really odd and beautiful melody. It was interesting to hear you call this easy listening. The general consensus feels this band are quite the opposite. Ultimately the parts which emotionally resonated with me, which are many, didn't resonate much with you. Thanks for the reaction, it was interesting to hear your thoughts even if we don't share the same opinion.

    Saw these wonderful boys live on tour with Silent Planet and Kublai Khan. First I heard of them, I thought they were super fun. Dug a lot deeper into this album and its lyrics afterward and became an instant fan. The way they groove between riffs and soaring choruses as well as pummel you with chaos during the verses is so unique. One of the most underrated bands out there.

    In almost 15 years of listening to core music, I've learned that certain genres and bands need to be given time. not to judge even after several auditions. for example, there are groups that I listen to only in the summer when I'm in the mood, such as instrumental prog-, mat-core. For someone you need to develop your own musical understanding of the genre.
    As for Greyhaven, I heard about them with the release of the album last year and listened to it 4 times in one day, which was the first time in my life(Empty Black also bangers for me). Around that time, the album Grayscale Season came out, which also struck me. Both groups I consider the discovery of the last year.
    Thank you for your work , you really help the guys to learn about them!

    I saw these guys back in 2018 in Louisville Kentucky for my 30th birthday. They filled in for Toothgrinder and blew my mind. Norma Jean and gideon were there too. I've been a massive fan since. This record, in particular, didn't leave my car for about 4 months. Their new album is pretty great too.

    I really love this album even though i'm usually not a huge fan of the chaotic hardcor-y genre. It probably has to do with the time period i discovered it in (as often is the case for me). It was around september 2020, so coming off the pandemic, and i'd literally just moved from my small town to Milan (2nd largest city in Italy, absolutely immense for a country boy like me lol). I was positively overwhelmed by the big city, and i still like that feeling of being a part of something larger and wider.
    BUT i basically went for 1st listen of Empty Black on like my 2nd or 3rd day here and well... i think the juxtaposition, the contrast, of listening to this album about (and that sounds like) small town US while strolling surrounded by people in this huge megalopolis just hit me the right way and i really loved it. At the same time the themes of poverty and drug abuse in the album also connected me to the city probably, let's be real.
    But yeah anyway, their latest album is just as great!

    Grey haven is a very oddly difficult band for me to get into but has all the elements of something I like. Took me a bit but mortality rate did it for me

  • @VasKurtas
    @VasKurtas Год назад +1

    As generally a prog fan I like Greyhaven for their tricky guitar parts, some very energetic sections and interesting transitions.
    There's no "better" or "worse" in music, it's not a competition. They definitely do sound unique, and that is what's important.
    I think it's because of both taste and mood that you didn't like it at all. It's not that I think The Dali Thundering Concept album is superior to this, but maybe if you listened to this another time, after different band, you'd like it more, idk.
    Some music hits you, some don't. For example, one of your most emotional reactions is All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us by Architects. You literally cried on this one. But I felt absolutely nothing, I thought musically it's boring af, and even FTTWTE I liked more.
    Sverir, should not be upset about this reaction. We all have different tastes

    Greyhaven are fantastic, Empty Black is one of my favourite metalcore albums of all time, but the album was definitely a grower for me, first listen I remember thinking it was just good... Maybe the same would happen to you, but then again it might
    If you haven't checked Every Time I Die I suggest Low Teens, for Norma Jean I'd say Polar Similar

    At this point I don't think you like the more hardcore side of metalcore. You like the djent, progressive, thall style metalcore and anything hardcore leaning, you seem to write off immediately. Counterparts, Greyhaven, etc. just an observation.

    Grayhaven is a four piece that doesn't include any synth, piano, or outside instruments.
    Their sound at times sounds stripped down compared to other metalcore bands, but they create moments of panic, rage, sadness in grooves and melodies that are only made by three instruments and a voice. I love them for what they're able to do without oversaturation of the mix or overlaying effects and sounds. It's part of what hardcore is about along with the artistry that is uniquely theirs, but also alludes to their influences clearly.
    I see what they lack for you to enjoy them, but I don't think that they fall short musically or creatively. They rock their sound whether it's what's cool in the genre or not. At any rate, thanks for giving them a shot and hopefully there's a band that can warm you up to hardcore just like there has been with deathcore.

    After watching maybe 10 metalcore album reactions this guy has done, id say he just doesnt really get it. Im from australia and ive been listening to metalcore for nearly 20 years, so i have definately heard my share, and understand its musical progression over nearly two decades. The lack of understanding and reverance he has for the bands that paved the way and did it before whatever bands he obviously thinks are better now, is dumbfounding. The lack of comtext of production quality and musical elements given the times in which each album is produced in its given time is obviously lost on this guy.

    That's an honest and on spot reaction. I cannot really add much to it. It's nice to listen to them to support them, but it kinda adds nothing new to the book. Don't know if it's generic, but it didn't keep my attention very long. Sounds alot like the Hard-Rock soft Metal stuff I listened to in the 90s.

    • @sirdo946
      @sirdo946 Год назад +2

      I disagree it adds nothing new to the book but maybe i don't know the hardcore side of metalcore enough.
      I've tried several hardcore-ish bands over the years but Greyhaven is probably one of the few that's actually hit me. I haven't heard anyone else be able to mix melodic riffs, tapping and dissonance (some parts even slightly Invent Animate-y, in some ways) + some very good clean melodies with super heavy hitting hardcore parts.
