I remember BigBoy Hobbies used to advertise in the back of Model Railroad Craftsman and a couple other of the trade magazines at least 30 yrs. ago. So I called them from the Interstate at Grandma’s/Race Track truck stop and asked ‘can I get a tractor trailer into your parking lot’? He’s like yeah, why not? I used to stop every time I’d go through headed the California. Fill the sleeper up with kits and head on out. I am so glad to hear they are still open. If they ever close up, it truly will be the end of an era.

That is the best method to display kits. I have never seen walls with kits displaying the front covers like that. I just started getting back in to RC trucks and I never get tired of buying parts from local hobby shops.

Don't want to go in there broke. You may come out broke though. I am glad I grew up in the 60's when models were way cheaper. 2 or 3 lawns mowed pretty much enabled me to buy any kit back then. My young mind grasping WW2 history was a special time of imagination as I built those kits of interest. Tom Daniel hot rods were a popular series back when. Good times.

The best hobby shop if you like plastic models! We have a shop in ct that opened in 1952 and still going strong that has Absolutely everything you can imagine rc cars planes boats plastic models trains and all the supplies you would ever need

Been a modeler for 50+ years, I remember before the opec oil embargo even models were cheap . Usually models weren't over $5.00 , if you found one for $10.00 it was a doozie. I would have probably crapped my drawers if they were the prices then what they are now. But the kits that have been lost to time far outweigh what they have now.
Funny they haven't run a train on there for almost 15 years and haven't taken that down and reclaimed that retail space. When I was driving trucks across the US I stopped at one place was a huge metal building filled with model kits. And some really older ones too can't remember what state I was in but it seems like the band had the owners first name in it like Ken's model world or such.
I live pretty close to Indianapolis the town I live in only has a Hobby Lobby and their model kits are way overpriced. to thanks for the video. I've been a model judge at the Indianapolis State Fair for 11 years. And I also judge county fairs. It's a fantastic hobby now I know where there's a hobby store close to me thanks for the video have a nice day

@@THROTTLEPOWER No. I was going to join the reenactors at Museum of 20th Century Warfare but then found 14th Armor and their only 1/2 hr away. Wife and myself are planing to go to Indy so on that trip I will stop by.
There is down in Australia several that are fully stocked with model kits (cars, trains, planes, tanks, Gundam,, ). Slotcar, Lego, and a lot of RC cars trucks.. some have more others have less . Some of the shops have joined forces to be one so they have better buying power to keep their stock at good prices.. only one shop I know of that is like that old school toy shop covering all of those things then the hobby part of the shop with models and RC cars.. although the nearest hobby RC cars shop that was near me closed down .. it wasn't the most easiest to get there and find it was open (owner was doing work out the back testing nitro motors.. or something like that.. he lost money every time I or anyone else had the same inability to go in and buy stuff... There is another shop but it's a pain to get to via public transport .. but it's a half bottle shop (alcohol) and RC cars.. on the other half of the shop..
@@THROTTLEPOWER I run RC of various electric kinds.. and sizes.. as well as the Tamiya mini 4wd which is 1/32 scale I think.. but I put them in individual display cases... If wondering this video popped up in the RUclips promoting videos when I logged in. I always like to see different hobby shops..

I don't know Mike, it's such a small old school hobby shop, it's like stepping back into time. I did a bigger hobby shop about 2 weeks ago and that place might have a web site. Look for the Phil's hobby shop video.
I used to go there to buy and order planes. The owner and I had an argument. The reason of our argument had to do with a phone call that didn't hang up. He is kinda of a psycho!!
We use to have a hobby shop like this here where I'm at in NC. Was in a building made to look like a barn that had a huge HO layout upstairs. Bought alot of HO trains from that place and even some RC car stuff.

Now the only decent one left in the state that I know of is in Spencer next to the North Carolina Transportation Museum, but it's not really worth the drive for me to drive what's probably almost 2 hours to get there. So now that I'm back buying HO stuff again it's mostly coming from Train World's website, which kinda sucks because I like to see the product first hand before I decide to buy it or not. As for the shop the guy closed up because he couldn't really compete with Amazon I guess. The layout was probably trashed because the new owners wouldn't let the layout stay.

They were at one time HUGE into trains Jason. Over the years his train people have stopped coming in due to health (age) or have died off. There was so much work put into the train layout he just decided to keep it up. So now he carries more plastic in place of the trains along with some RC. I just posted a vid the other day of a hobby shop also in Indianapolis that has a HUGE train department. You might enjoy that vid!! 😉

Nice hobby shop. What puzzles me is that they have a train set up in the front window and don't have model trains none that I saw in the video.
They were at one time HUGE into trains Jason. Over the years his train people have stopped coming in due to health (age) or have died off. There was so much work put into the train layout he just decided to keep it up. So now he carries more plastic in place of the trains along with some RC. I just posted a vid the other day of a hobby shop also in Indianapolis that has a HUGE train department. You might enjoy that vid!! 😉

I agree.......... Speaking of boats, the other two hobby shop vids I posted were loaded with watercraft. Was kind of surprised at how much was offered!!
Been going there for 20 years, but since I am into trains sadly I had to move on.

Train Central has since moved to Shadeland Avenue, maybe four or so miles northeast of where they once were.
Significantly smaller store than before.

The only store near me is a Hobby Lobby (pales in comparison to this store) or a 20 mile drive to a HobbyTown. BTW, it's Tah-mee-yah.

Seems so have a much wider selection of models than Hobbytown in Indianapolis. Gonna check this place out next time I go buy a model kit
