      The physical synth is a joy to use as well. Combined with the pitchstick it feels like a legitimate instrument. The stick is closer to a real fretless string than ribbon controller or MPE is to me.
      Layout is a poly Pro-One on steroids, super fast to program.

    First time I heard about this soft synth because of this review, so thanks for that! I'm testing the demo since a few days now and I freakin' love it so far, I think it's a terrific little beast of a soft synth. Planning to get it for sure, mostly for super mellow organic pads and some icy drones. The Pad resynthesis function is brilliant and really fun to mess with for happy accidents. I don't care if it's not 100% accurate to the real thing, doesn't matter cause I think it's sounds fantastic. Very cool discovery for me :)

    I always wanted a nord. I don't fancy keeping a twenty five year old synth maintained. You never know when something will need repairing.
    This new one looks super cool. Any thing can break, but one less thing to worry about if its new and still in warranty.....

    This is a pro-level demo and man it's sounding so good. The Lead/Discovery does house and that tidy offbeat electro stuff so easily that's usually in presets and demos but it's just a beautiful all around polysynth.
    I think you see the light now. Might not be as good as Virus for extreme trance sounds or ebm cyber vibe but this especially in highly playable, compact instrument form is more versatile and sounds better. The 4 layers right the next to the pitchstick and wheel. A1 might be streamlined like a Cobalt8 on steroids but it sounds more dynamic and/or warmer than most and the effects are still world class for traditional flavors. I suggest Lead 4 or 2X unless someone really wants the osc setup and effects of A1.

    I’m new to your channel, and I love your content. I was not aware of how deep and wide synth content could be. I know this is off the topic of this vid, but what are your thoughts on the Nord Stage 4? Thanks.

    • @VultureCulture
      @VultureCulture  3 месяца назад +1

      I admit that I am ignorant to the workstation side of the synth world. I don't get the appeal of the Nord Stage series, aside from having massive amounts of sounds without a laptop. I can't help but feel it's overpriced.
      Thank you for your comment and welcome 🙏🙏🙏

    YO!! As you already know I love vintage beasts like you do but one of the few digital synths in my collection that I'll never sell is my Nord 2x rack. Its a sick synth with a thin yet powerful sound that can cut thru the thick fuzzy tones of the vintage beasts... its so versatile, modulation is crazy and its 4 part multitimbral

      Then I will be very, very interested to hear what you think about Discovery and if it nails the sound of the Nord Lead 2x or not.

      @@VultureCultureI have the Nord Rack 2X as well, and I have to say this latest version of Discovery sounds amazing! My 2X is hooked up to a DAWless setup but now you have me considering using it as a controller for the plugin. I was always envious of the Virus owners, but this is kicking serious ass. The Lead 2X has 24-bit sound, which was pro audio back in the day, and Discovery nails that surgical crispy brilliant high end and great FM. There are a bunch of Prophet copycat presets in there that have their own character too, although why would you use those unless you want to play in a cover band. I love using MIDI clock to sync LFO 1 and using a keystep pro to sequence drum patches. Not a Virus, but lots of fun to play. The manual teaches synthesis basics, too, although Jim Aikin of Keyboard magazine was the boss for that.

    I played with a Nord Lead 2 in a store back in 2006 and I was instantly impressed and a bit intimidated by it. Its a bucket list synth for me. Discovery Pro really sounds great but I'll forever want that red synth with the weird wheel thing.

    • @VultureCulture
      @VultureCulture  4 месяца назад

      Don't blame you! And considering the plugin costs 1/3rd a Nord Lead 2 I would probably go with the hardware too. That weird wheel is worth a lot!

    Bought this synth when it first came out in 1998 never sold it , the keyboard bed sucks but the sound and the knobs are absolutely fun to play. Thanks for the information on getting that sound in a vst been waiting 20 years for this !

    Maybe I should keep my Nord Lead 2. I bought it in 2002 and then didn't play it much. What was I thinking?
    I just ordered the upgrade to 8.1
    And a UDO Super 6 arriving on Tuesday to keep the other hardware synths company and do a few sounds for me.

    What's going on with all these soft synths lately? I'm talking about Softube, GForce, SonicProjects OP-X PRO-3, DiscoDSP's OB-Xd 3.0 now this. Seems they made the big jump in sound quality. Great job.

      Nord Lead 4 and A1, used but mint would happily pay $1000-1500 USD. Mint 2X I'd pay 700, NL3 probably $1K.

      People underestimate the difficulty of creating a great software synthesizer. Discodsp is not a big company that can make back a lot of money on high sales volume. The guy is not Cherry Audio.

    Sounds good, but they really need to update the gui like Corona Synth. Its 2024 not 2004.
    Editing my comment : Looks like the GUI is now resizable, but only 2 sizes. Guess it's better than nothing. It does indeed sound very good though, but definitely needs more modulation options. For 200$ though? Hell to the NO.

    The demo is good, the synth also. The only turn off is the dev’s attitude towards customers. The synth sound totally like v 7, but dev
    charged a ton for a ghost update bullying costumers who point this out.
