@@pirihern9329 Sad to hear this. I have always lusted after the A7/S7 but ended up with a Lexus GS350 AWD instead as I'm over constantly working on cars. I had a 2004 Mazda 6S Hatchback V6 5-speed manual that needed work from the day I bought it to the week before I sold it in 2021 as well as that whole year after the kid bought it from me. I've done some rattle fixing here and there but thank God for my extended warranty for the work that's needed to be done that was expensive and shocking, but it's otherwise been a satisfying and reliable car.
AWESOME video man. Well done. You didn't skip anything - thoroughly explained every step which is what i needed. Got me back to 2 headlights. When it comes to changing headlight bulbs, I'm used to 3 screws, remove trim ring plug in new bulb done. Surprised to hear about ballasts and igniters, thought those went out with the fluorescent bulb :)
Great instructions. Did mine today. I was able to do it without unplugging the Grey connector from the ballast. The hardest part was getting the compressed clips back on correctly due to the tight space.
Excellent, detailed and informative headlight replacement porn I mean video man. All the directional twisting motions are very helpful. Nice job. Thanks! This is the next project on my GS.
Tried this yesterday afternoon. Glad for the tips, but I wanted to point something out for people with big hands. You MUST remove access panels to do this job. In my case on the passenger side I had to remove front tire and inner fender well. I couldn’t unplug the electrical connector, so I left it plugged in while turning the ballast open. Also, what seemed to be the hardest thing for me was removing the wire spring retainers. Thank goodness that worked. Lots of cussing and butchered hands later, I have new bulbs.
great video. This works on a RX350 also. All the other videos on youtube do not have the ballast built-in like yours. I could see mine but was unsure if I could simply twist it off. Now I know. Thanks.
The beautiful th9ng about Lexus and Toyota- they share so many parts and overall build philosophy. What's true for one, is usually true for most of their models. I can tell by the same part numbers, used on a huge range of model years, and even across models
I noticed you showed and said to twist and lock the igniter counter clockwise when reinstalling but it’s actually clockwise to reinstall. But all in a pretty good and timeless video
I feel like I owe you money for all the money you just saved me...so the least I could do is thumbs up, like , comment and subscribe! I had to change a bulb and have put it off for over 6 months since I typically don't drive at night! Your video was just in time!! GRATEFUL!
@@landedinluklaon the passenger side when opening the ballast do I turn clockwise or counterclockwise? Any necessary to remove intake box out of the way and disconnect the connector from the ballast?
If you don't already own one get a can of spray silicone lubricant. I use it for everything. For something like this, you could - carefully - spray at the top of the seam where the ballast cover meets the housing, and the fluid will seep into the joint by capillary action. Give it 5 minutes or so and try again. I imagine you figured it out since your comment but I answered in case anyone else had the same issue. Just be careful not to get the spray into the wire harness socket.
Hi, I have a question, hopefully you can help me. I bought a 2015 lexus es350, both headlights were broken. I bought used on on Craigslist , and the low beam were hid, my car comes with factory halogen. So anyway the ones I bought didn't have the ballast, just the hole were the ballast goes. So I went to a stereo custom shop and they installed a plug and play hid bulb. So I want to know what can I use to cover the hole were the ballast supposed to be? What do u think i use to cover it. Thank you
If you have to do everything from the engine bay, unscrew/remove as much as you can from around the ballast. I loosened the washer fluid nozzle on driver's side and it helped tremendously. Or get someone with small hands to get in there and unplug, loosen, remove.
I wish you showed the before and after. Thanks for the video. Looks like the passenger side is easy, but the driver side isn't too bad either. Just need to get access.
I live in a rural area, and at night I need a lot of light, to avoid hitting deer, other animals. Anyway, new bulbs with 4.3k color temp are a lot brighter than the old 6k. In part because they are new and not cheap aftermarket, and also because 4k produces more light. Def. can see a difference at night.
@@landedinlukla Thanks for the reply. Same. I just swapped mine out for the Osram CBI. I'm hoping they are good. My bulbs were the originals far as I can tell and were losing brightness. I'll report back. Your video prepared me to do it, 30 minutes tops.
Hey I have the same car and I’m having a slight problem with the headlights. sometimes they start to flicker randomly then it will stop. I don’t think it’s the ballast but I’m not sure. Let me know what you think
Mine would randomly go out on one side. Do this- buy a good aftermarket bulb. No need to spend $100. Good bulbs can be had for lime 60-80 a pair. I bought mine at TRS and bought a Morimoto bulb. Install the bulb. If the problem continues, then it is the ballast. Same thing here. No need to buy Lexus ballast for $350+. I bought mine also from TRS....they re all made by just a few companies. I paid something like $60 bucks for a ballast
On the connector, which is grey, press on tabs on both sides. It has two tabs. Requires some force to press and at the same time pull the connector out.
Hey, I replaced the bulb and it when I turned the lights on they worked. Shortly after the new bulb started smoking and smelled like something was burning. Any reason as to why this is?
The only thing I can think of is the ballast going bad. They sometimes burn out. I had it happen to me a few times over the years That you can also purchase aftermarket for around 60 bucks.
Hoping this comment will be seen. So I followed this guide (I believe it is the best around!) to replace the passenger side HID but for some reason my high beam stopped working. I didn’t have any issues so I’m not sure what happened, has anyone experienced this? Is it possible the previous bulb blew a fuse when it died? Thanks in advanced!
As far as I know the low beam high beam function works by moving the bulb itself. The bulb shines at one intensity all the time. I believe a solenoid or some other mechanism simply moves the bulb positioning inside the headlight housing, giving a different light pattern. Therefore, your issue is not with the bulb. I am guessing yours is also a projection housing, like mine
Thank you for your video, sir! I already bought 2x Night breakers, gonna replace two of them tomorrow. Would you recommend removing the wheel plastic or you think i could squeeze in ? Thank you ! Also, how much time will it take me to replace 1 bulb if i don't have any experience?
