For those that wonder why "a snack machine has so high security" - no its not for the snacks, but because these machines contain money, especially those with bill validators, and machines could go unmonitored for a very long time. Cash theft, even by authorized people, is very common, why some locks are electronic and have logging capabilities. Nowadays, they mostly use cashless systems either with credit card, or a internal "token" (RFID) you have to swipe against a reader, or a electronic "key" that is charged with money at a charging station - is inserted. Thus they have, on vending machines, started to go back to the simple "ASSA" lock with almost no pick security at all. Since theres no money to steal. Same with P-meters. They usually only take electronic payment now, and thus they have gone back to a very simple "ASSA" lock just for a simple anti-tamper. The actual credit card reader however have both anti-tamper seals and electronic anti-tamper too.
It's basically thousands of items per week on really good locations. A bag of doritos didn't valued much, but at 500 bags of doritos per week, well, it adds up.
"should resist picking for at least ten minutes" Video is 3:19, picking starts at 1:41. Granted, these are ideal conditions with an experienced lock wrangler, but it makes me wonder how the UL standard is actually devised, and UL is usually on top of their stuff.
I'd love to see you take this one apart if you can. Seems like there are some interesting features inside. I'd love to get a better understanding of how the "set and rotate" feature works as jt's a little difficult to understand just from looking at the key. Great video, as usual!
This is interesting as I have to fill vending machines at my job. All of the ones I fill have the types of locks that use the cylindrical-shaped keys, I’ve saw many of them broken into with a drill. I have noticed a few newer ones with a little ball in the center of the core, which I assume is to deter drill attacks.
Nice quick pick! I have yet to get my hands on an m3. There was much less core rotation then I thought there would be when that slider engaged but it was probably more obvious to your hand.
Don't be lulled into a false sense of "meh" by the speed in which LPL picked this. It is *much* more complicated than he showed here, and remember, his skill is off the charts. It's pretty amazing how that rotating pins key works. In conjunction with the side-bar inside, the key pins are actually like little tiny single-disc disc-detainer locks. Each pin is one tiny (but very "thick/long" disc. Each pin has one true "gate" for the side bar, and some have one or more false gates you can fall into with the wrong key, or not rotating the pin far enough or too far. Each pin also has its own backstop on the opposite side to prevent over-rotation, which would possibly seize the lock semi-permanently if the wrong key were inserted. In short, be amazed he can pick this. Few people can, and Medeco didn't get that lock rating by accident.
The older Medecos are built like a training lock (with grub screws at the top), so if you can get hold of one of those you can just empty out all pin chambers but one and build from there.
I am a small vending machine operator, a side business. My machines have the traditional cylinder key lock. I have periodically gotten calls from site location that a machine was found open. I thought I was going crazy, but it can't be that I don't know how to properly re-engage a lock after a fill call to one of my machines, and check that it is actually locked. So i have seen now on YT that cylinder locks are not all that hard to pick with a cheap device. And even these better, standard key Medico locks can be defeated. It's frustrating. If they are not opening the machine, they are using coat hanger contraptions to steal product by dislodging it from the coils.....
I own some vending machines and the only time they have been broken into, a brick was thrown through the display glass for them to get in. It would be cheaper for me if they had picked the lock. Remember, locks keep out honest people.
These are incredibly hard to pick. I have had the displeasure of attempting quite a few times. You did an amazing job on this. You should try to get a hold of a biaxial. I would love to see you make an attempt at it.

Where’s my “pick Bosnian bill and I made” crew?
Disc: I am I being detained officer?
That gave you quite the challenge there, glad my new Progressive Industries trailer lock has a puck with an M3 lock.
HEHE lock go pick
Noooo, you can't just open it in under 30 ༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽

Good to know cans of coke are more secure than most front doors
mom: "so how was LPL"
virgin girl: "I don't know when he popped it...I hadn't even dropped my underwear"
mom: "damn u LPL"
oh i recognize that key, lottery vending machines use these locks. i never thought it would be this easy to pick after seeing the key
Nod to Medeco for the pick resistance on this one. Seeing LPL pick other 4 pin locks in mere seconds if not raked, this one still took him some time. I imagine this is out of reach for amateur and intermediate pickers. Nice video!
Nice to see you finally pick a lock that requires some skill !!!!!!!!!
You make picking look easier than just shaking the machine that ate my money.
As always, quite impressive. I'd like to see the disassembly too.
"should resist picking for at least ten minutes"
Video is 3:19, picking starts at 1:41. Granted, these are ideal conditions with an experienced lock wrangler, but it makes me wonder how the UL standard is actually devised, and UL is usually on top of their stuff.
I've been trying to get one of these open for like 2 weeks, thank you so much for so much info on this thing
did you get it? ha
I'd love to see you take this one apart if you can. Seems like there are some interesting features inside. I'd love to get a better understanding of how the "set and rotate" feature works as jt's a little difficult to understand just from looking at the key.
Great video, as usual!
Please disassemble the lock and demonstrate the mechanism. Thank you for your vids
It’s crimped closed... disassembly would be destructive.
I imagine that LPL would have a field day with the Lock Bridge in Paris. Either of that or have an aneurysm. Love the videos.
He makes everything looks so easy. I cant even open my taymor lock lol.
My wife asked if I took out the garbage, I replied: “nothing on two”
Don't be lulled into a false sense of "meh" by the speed in which LPL picked this.
I wish I could just get the feel for Medeco, I guess I need more practice. Good stuff again, LPL.
The older Medecos are built like a training lock (with grub screws at the top), so if you can get hold of one of those you can just empty out all pin chambers but one and build from there.
This guy is like a dentist for locks
That's a solid lock for vending machine.
Awesome! Good start to the week!
It's time like these that we must remember that lpl is an award winning picker with many years of experience
That feel when a vending machine lock is better than half of the locks you can buy at your local hardware store.
This was incredibly impressive!
damn, never would have guessed the humble vending machine had a lock that went this hard
It’s 1AM. How did I get here. Never watched this guy before but, I’m going to subscribe and watch more in the future.
Can you also show some locks that are unpickable ? And very strong
Like normal locks, door locks, safes .....
Holding breath when LPL said " let's check that plunger" 😅
These are incredibly hard to pick. I have had the displeasure of attempting quite a few times. You did an amazing job on this. You should try to get a hold of a biaxial. I would love to see you make an attempt at it.
It took around 1:25 to pick the lock rated for 10 minutes. That is also the time stamp for when he starts picking the lock.
Holy Crap that lock lasted more than a whole minute
imagine going home from work and saw someone lockpicking your doors while saying "nothing on one, two has a nice click, a little movement on three"
