    You make it look so easy, wish I had a mechanic like you near me CT/USA. 2005 S4 convertible, 44,000 miles, I often consider selling just because I know that if anything goes wrong, it's a bucketful of money. Luckily, never heard any rattles, but $2000 to change the AC compressor, because the seals went bad and it leaks 😞. Keep up the good work.

    I replaced every slipper/guide in the bellhousing plus the adjusters (I had way more wear, a long slot out of the locking pin hole on both) but DIDN'T replace the chain tensioners on the cylinder heads figuring I could do them in the car having seen a video on it. Sadly it appears that the tensioners on the heads - which fed the cam adjusters - was likely the root cause of the entire problem cos as soon as the oil gets over 90C I have to hold it at 1100rpm at traffic lights or my brand new adjusters go 'clack-clack-clack' as the pin fails to engage in the hole and the cams flap around (I could hear it and see the cams 'jump' while turning the engine by hand with the valve covers off before replacing everything due to the slot) :(

    I have a nogaro s4 that just threw the AC belt I replaced, pretty sure it wiped out the front main seal because I suddenly was pouring oil out the front. And there is a very loud metal on metal knocking on bank 1. I have 4 audis, have built the heck out of many, have a stg 3 b5 s4 I built, I build my blocks from bare block up, lots of 1.8ts. Used to restore and modify classic porsches for a living so im not the average idk anything about fixing modofying snd tuning cars.. but I've never done any serious work on the 4.2 and I'm really not looking forward to this job because I just have an engine hoist. No lift. Do it in my garage. Weird thing is, the noise sounds very clearly like it's coming from the front of bank 1.. very front. Found tons of gunk and some oil in between the head and the intake manifold. Need to rosstech it tommorrow and re-check timing. But it was around like -8 if I remember when I checked a couple weeks ago. Ideas?

  • @nwskipro
    @nwskipro Год назад

    At 5:30 you say the cam adjustment (groups 091/092) are higher than you'd expect for idle. Mine are about the same, it drives great, no fault codes. But I have a terrible tick after a full timing chain job, which is partly why I keep an eye on these groups.
    What values do you like to see in groups 091/092/093 and why?

    • @nwskipro
      @nwskipro Год назад

      And at 14:47 is the first time I'm hearing the dowels are worn - that noise when you wiggled the guide makes me wonder if my noise could potentially be something as simple as a worn dowel. It's either that or a faulty chain tensioner, which I'm not sure how to test for.
