I mean the 70’s leafs were solid with salming and sittler 80’s were eh 90’s was our best decade since 1970 gilmour sundin Clark era made it to the conf finals game 7 lost on a controversial penalty. 2000’s was the worst decade by far some rough times. 2010’s were mid made the playoffs for the first time in 8 years in 2013 and had an infamous meltdown. Two bad seasons after but credit to leafs management they made them a playoff team within two years of beginning the rebuild and went from last to a wild card spot in 16-17. Have been a playoff team since. Not much success there but this year is the year where we actually have a chance to make it to the conf finals again. Atlantic division has been the most stacked division for the past 5 years.
As a Sabres fan I feel like Ryan Oreilly. I literally went from watching every game for the last 15 years to now I don’t even really know what nights we play... I just... don’t care anymore.
watching this following the 22-23 season (and in the midst of the Calder Cup playoffs where the Amerks are making other teams cry themselves to sleep with the Sabres prospects tearing it up) makes me so so so excited for the future of the Sabres
As a diehard Leafs fan, I feel the pain the Sabres fans are going through here. Buffalo is one of those teams that I like to see do well. The intensity between the Sabres and Leafs when they get together normally make for some excellent and entertaining hockey. Rick Jeanneret is a true great in the play by play world. That man is wildly entertaining. Dominik Hasek in my opinion is the greatest goalie of all time. I tried to watch him as much as I could, which meant tuning into a decent amount of Sabres games. I am a big fan of their jerseys throughout the years as well. Lastly, the Sabres are truly lucky to have some of the best fans, not just in the NHL, but in all North American sports. I had been to 'The Aud' a few times as well as Marine Midland Arena a few more, and the passion and energy in that building was unbelievable. Each time the fans brought the electricity to the arenas. You can even see and hear it when watching games on TV, but even that doesn't do the atmosphere justice. Sabres fans deserve better. I'll end my rant with this; In 1999 after Buffalo knocked out my Leafs in the conference finals I was rooting for them hard. I'm only 33, but I remember how often they called the foot in the crease. It was maddening. There's no doubt that at triple OT, the NHL decision makers and refs just wanted to go home. No Goal.
I agree with Corwin about outdoor games. I was at 2014 Winter Classic in the Big House, and was in the back row and in the corner and couldn't see anything. Also snow was just blowing in my eyes the whole time, and I ended up just leaving early. But those outdoor games are also terrible on TV because the angle is always really bad. So yeah, I like the idea of having no fans but just put them in cool locations. Like in the middle of a city or out door somewhere scenic like Tahoe
We weren't good until we traded 2 of our first overall's (one you have), and drafted a strong defense core. It's not about how many first overall's you get, it's about the quality of the player who get's drafted first overall.

We have not had a team good enough to compete since briere and drury left. They were true leaders and really nice guys that loved the city and the fans. They were loved by everyone and they were heroes here. They are retired now but the memories they gave all of us will never be forgotten.
As a leafs fan, the sabres give me serious pre - Shanahan vibes. They seem like they need a complete organizational overhaul from the top down. Someone powerful needs to lose their job.
The problem is Kim Pegula (owners wife) is President of Hockey Operations. She has no idea what she is doing and knows nothing about the league. The Sabres aren't doing anything until she gets off her high horse and resigns. Buffalo needs an experienced front office that knows how to build a winning organization. Also having someone with connections in the league, that will bring in the right people, would make a huge difference from the top down. I don't know what it's going to take for the Pegulas to look in the mirror and realize since they took over the Buffalo Sabres they've turned them into the worst franchise in the NHL. Something they're doing is very wrong and it needs to change right now.
Fun Sabres story: Me and a buddy of mine (he use to live Buffalo and I live in Australia) watch hockey together (This is my second season so very new!) When we started last season, the sabres where at the top of the league and it was looking good! His words were "we don't need to be at the top, just need to get to the playoffs. We might not since we have a bad habit of not finishing strong" but me being the positive person I am, I was optimistic that we could make it. This was said almost the game before the losing streak happened, and it slowly went down hill from there and I came to the realisation that he was right, and the rest of that season just left me bitter and sad. But on a positive note, he still thinks it funny that I got the buffalo spirit after one season and still enjoy a good game together :D
I was a Sabres fan from 2006-2011. My dad was a Leafs fan, and so was I to that point (albeit I was very young) and I went back to them. I only cheered for them because of Miller, Briere and Drury. Miller was why I became a goalie. I went back to the Leafs after they just let them go. I couldn't cheer for them anymore. Leafs were always my second favourite so I never really left them, however I couldnt watch them play without those players. I might have suffered through a lot with the leafs, but at least our suffering paid off

Try doing a: How we would rebuild this franchise series. Break it into maybe a 5-7 year rebuild looking Into upcoming free agents and using your knowledge to predict if they will hit the open market. Make trades that you think are fair for both sides I’m a die hard Buffalo Sabres fan and at this point I’m not sure how they can rebuild us. Its Minnesota Wild syndrome all over again. In the 2000s Minnesota would always make the Playoffs and then be booted out in the first round. However they did break this a couple of years ago.

Standings and points aren't really the point when you only play in your division. The East has like 5 teams that should make the playoffs, and the Rangers who could put up a fight before the Panarin situation. Central has three really good teams and an ok 4th.
We know how bad we are boys. We know our hockey in this town. We still have the passion in our hearts that the whole league saw in the playoffs WAY BACK in 2005 and 2006. About the last time most hockey fans had a second thought about the Sabres too. The tragic part is, you have no idea how badly we want and deserve to cheer that loudly and feel that pride again. Some probably think we deserve this for our team throwing away the 2015 season, I would honestly say that is fair. But then consider the fact that we basically have two options, 1) (i hate this one the most) trade Eichel or 2) tear it all down and rebuild again (i hate this one almost as much), and try to understand that if you looked up "between a rock and a hard place" in the metaphor dictionary, there would literally just be a Sabres logo there with no text. Save us sympathy, we'd much rather be hated for being good and shitting on the Maple Leafs again. Yet I am acutely aware of how far (ignoring the Canadian only division for a moment) this organization is from getting there again. SMFH I just don't understand why the Pegulas won't let an old school NHL guy come in here and reorganize everything. Unless they don't want to come. Now THAT I would understand. Live in Buffalo, was a Sabres fan all my life I never thought I would stop loving the team. After the tank years my fandom definitely changed. They traded away all the 06-07 players and promised a better future with all the tank seasons. But after a couple of years I realized it wasn’t getting better and the with all the pegula controversies I decided enough was enough. I left the team and probably for good (unless pegulas sell the team)

I feel like they need to pair Giroux with a legitimate sniper for once in his career. But probably the biggest need is a Physical Veteran Defensemen who can mentor this young defensive core and eat up minutes. Right now Justin Braun is playing on the top line, Braun has never been a Top 2 D Man in his NHL career. What do you guys think?
All I feel is pain. Like on paper we're a pretty good freaking team. Jack Eichel, Taylor Hall, Eric Staal, Sam Reinhart, Victor Olofsson, Dylan Cozens (who looks amazing for being a rookie) being our top 6, Jeff Skinner if he could stop having the worst luck known to man, Rasmus Dahlin, Rasmus Ristolainen, Linus Ullmark like we have good players but nothing ever seems to go our way and they just never seem to be able to connect properly, I dont know if its coaching or just bad chemistry or what but its so frustrating. Not to mention that this season our team got bombed with Covid from New Jersey and now our top defenseman this season is having massive Covid complications, our 2nd best defenseman this season is now out 6-8 months, the guy we brought up to replace them who was doing well now has a broken fucking arm and is out 6-8 weeks, Eichel, Hall, & Skinner collectively are leading the league in %Of Post shots like idk if the Pegulas collectively decided to piss off God at some point or something but our team is much better than what they're showing and on top of that we have just ridiculous amounts of injuries and sickness. Its just nothing but a torrential storm of shit this season for us, a season that at the outset looked like we were loaded and ready for a playoff run. Fuck me man.

I mean the 70’s leafs were solid with salming and sittler 80’s were eh 90’s was our best decade since 1970 gilmour sundin Clark era made it to the conf finals game 7 lost on a controversial penalty. 2000’s was the worst decade by far some rough times. 2010’s were mid made the playoffs for the first time in 8 years in 2013 and had an infamous meltdown. Two bad seasons after but credit to leafs management they made them a playoff team within two years of beginning the rebuild and went from last to a wild card spot in 16-17. Have been a playoff team since. Not much success there but this year is the year where we actually have a chance to make it to the conf finals again. Atlantic division has been the most stacked division for the past 5 years.

After the 2014-2015 season and watching Buffalo somehow lose at tanking...I’m numb to this pain.
As a Sabres fan I feel like Ryan Oreilly. I literally went from watching every game for the last 15 years to now I don’t even really know what nights we play... I just... don’t care anymore.

As a diehard Leafs fan, I feel the pain the Sabres fans are going through here. Buffalo is one of those teams that I like to see do well. The intensity between the Sabres and Leafs when they get together normally make for some excellent and entertaining hockey. Rick Jeanneret is a true great in the play by play world. That man is wildly entertaining. Dominik Hasek in my opinion is the greatest goalie of all time. I tried to watch him as much as I could, which meant tuning into a decent amount of Sabres games. I am a big fan of their jerseys throughout the years as well.
Lastly, the Sabres are truly lucky to have some of the best fans, not just in the NHL, but in all North American sports. I had been to 'The Aud' a few times as well as Marine Midland Arena a few more, and the passion and energy in that building was unbelievable. Each time the fans brought the electricity to the arenas. You can even see and hear it when watching games on TV, but even that doesn't do the atmosphere justice.
Sabres fans deserve better. I'll end my rant with this; In 1999 after Buffalo knocked out my Leafs in the conference finals I was rooting for them hard. I'm only 33, but I remember how often they called the foot in the crease. It was maddening. There's no doubt that at triple OT, the NHL decision makers and refs just wanted to go home.

I agree with Corwin about outdoor games. I was at 2014 Winter Classic in the Big House, and was in the back row and in the corner and couldn't see anything. Also snow was just blowing in my eyes the whole time, and I ended up just leaving early.
But those outdoor games are also terrible on TV because the angle is always really bad.
So yeah, I like the idea of having no fans but just put them in cool locations. Like in the middle of a city or out door somewhere scenic like Tahoe

We weren't good until we traded 2 of our first overall's (one you have), and drafted a strong defense core. It's not about how many first overall's you get, it's about the quality of the player who get's drafted first overall.

The contracts are unfortunate because Dubas probably expected the cap to increase so the contracts wouldn't be that hurtful to the cap. Victim of circumstance. Matthews and Marner are flourishing as players of the future, Eichel who was supposed to be your future wants out after 6 years of futility. Buffalo needs a complete facelift. Owners and Players alike have to start caring about this team. I may be a Leaf fan but I've always had a soft spot for the Sabres and it hurts to see them like this honestly. They need to figure it out when things like this happen it sometimes means that city loses their franchise when owners don't take interest. We have not had a team good enough to compete since briere and drury left. They were true leaders and really nice guys that loved the city and the fans. They were loved by everyone and they were heroes here. They are retired now but the memories they gave all of us will never be forgotten.
As a leafs fan, the sabres give me serious pre - Shanahan vibes. They seem like they need a complete organizational overhaul from the top down. Someone powerful needs to lose their job.
The problem is Kim Pegula (owners wife) is President of Hockey Operations. She has no idea what she is doing and knows nothing about the league. The Sabres aren't doing anything until she gets off her high horse and resigns. Buffalo needs an experienced front office that knows how to build a winning organization. Also having someone with connections in the league, that will bring in the right people, would make a huge difference from the top down. I don't know what it's going to take for the Pegulas to look in the mirror and realize since they took over the Buffalo Sabres they've turned them into the worst franchise in the NHL. Something they're doing is very wrong and it needs to change right now.
Fun Sabres story: Me and a buddy of mine (he use to live Buffalo and I live in Australia) watch hockey together (This is my second season so very new!) When we started last season, the sabres where at the top of the league and it was looking good! His words were "we don't need to be at the top, just need to get to the playoffs. We might not since we have a bad habit of not finishing strong" but me being the positive person I am, I was optimistic that we could make it. This was said almost the game before the losing streak happened, and it slowly went down hill from there and I came to the realisation that he was right, and the rest of that season just left me bitter and sad. But on a positive note, he still thinks it funny that I got the buffalo spirit after one season and still enjoy a good game together :D

I was a Sabres fan from 2006-2011. My dad was a Leafs fan, and so was I to that point (albeit I was very young) and I went back to them. I only cheered for them because of Miller, Briere and Drury. Miller was why I became a goalie. I went back to the Leafs after they just let them go. I couldn't cheer for them anymore. Leafs were always my second favourite so I never really left them, however I couldnt watch them play without those players. I might have suffered through a lot with the leafs, but at least our suffering paid off

Try doing a: How we would rebuild this franchise series. Break it into maybe a 5-7 year rebuild looking Into upcoming free agents and using your knowledge to predict if they will hit the open market. Make trades that you think are fair for both sides

Its Minnesota Wild syndrome all over again. In the 2000s Minnesota would always make the Playoffs and then be booted out in the first round. However they did break this a couple of years ago.

Check the standings, it’s CLEARLY the central division.
Standings and points aren't really the point when you only play in your division. The East has like 5 teams that should make the playoffs, and the Rangers who could put up a fight before the Panarin situation. Central has three really good teams and an ok 4th.
We know how bad we are boys. We know our hockey in this town. We still have the passion in our hearts that the whole league saw in the playoffs WAY BACK in 2005 and 2006. About the last time most hockey fans had a second thought about the Sabres too. The tragic part is, you have no idea how badly we want and deserve to cheer that loudly and feel that pride again. Some probably think we deserve this for our team throwing away the 2015 season, I would honestly say that is fair. But then consider the fact that we basically have two options, 1) (i hate this one the most) trade Eichel or 2) tear it all down and rebuild again (i hate this one almost as much), and try to understand that if you looked up "between a rock and a hard place" in the metaphor dictionary, there would literally just be a Sabres logo there with no text. Save us sympathy, we'd much rather be hated for being good and shitting on the Maple Leafs again. Yet I am acutely aware of how far (ignoring the Canadian only division for a moment) this organization is from getting there again. SMFH I just don't understand why the Pegulas won't let an old school NHL guy come in here and reorganize everything. Unless they don't want to come. Now THAT I would understand. Live in Buffalo, was a Sabres fan all my life I never thought I would stop loving the team. After the tank years my fandom definitely changed. They traded away all the 06-07 players and promised a better future with all the tank seasons. But after a couple of years I realized it wasn’t getting better and the with all the pegula controversies I decided enough was enough. I left the team and probably for good (unless pegulas sell the team)
I feel this, mainly because i'm an Orioles fan and we're basically baseball's Sabres at the moment. Also hearing Gary Thorne's voice hurt considering we just let him go after 14 years in the booth :(
Baseball needs a salary cap so bad. When the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, and other big markets can piss away so much money without room for smaller markets at all is bad for the growth of the sport.

Trevor Zegras is from my hometown in Bedford, New York. Being from down state New York in Westchester County, it’s a big deal for us here. It’s not like in Canada where each large community has at least one, if not a few, NHL players be raised in them.

You guys should do a series on what each team needs to do to improve their cup chances... preferably starting with my Flyers. I feel like they need to pair Giroux with a legitimate sniper for once in his career. But probably the biggest need is a Physical Veteran Defensemen who can mentor this young defensive core and eat up minutes. Right now Justin Braun is playing on the top line, Braun has never been a Top 2 D Man in his NHL career. What do you guys think?
All I feel is pain. Like on paper we're a pretty good freaking team.
Jack Eichel, Taylor Hall, Eric Staal, Sam Reinhart, Victor Olofsson, Dylan Cozens (who looks amazing for being a rookie) being our top 6, Jeff Skinner if he could stop having the worst luck known to man, Rasmus Dahlin, Rasmus Ristolainen, Linus Ullmark like we have good players but nothing ever seems to go our way and they just never seem to be able to connect properly, I dont know if its coaching or just bad chemistry or what but its so frustrating. Not to mention that this season our team got bombed with Covid from New Jersey and now our top defenseman this season is having massive Covid complications, our 2nd best defenseman this season is now out 6-8 months, the guy we brought up to replace them who was doing well now has a broken fucking arm and is out 6-8 weeks, Eichel, Hall, & Skinner collectively are leading the league in %Of Post shots like idk if the Pegulas collectively decided to piss off God at some point or something but our team is much better than what they're showing and on top of that we have just ridiculous amounts of injuries and sickness. Its just nothing but a torrential storm of shit this season for us, a season that at the outset looked like we were loaded and ready for a playoff run. Fuck me man.
