For those of you asking NO do not pinch the nose this is BABY cpr not adult.
5 puffs with mouth covering both babies nose AND mouth.
30 pumps using 2 fingers in centre of chest.
Follow with 2 puffs.
Continue with 30 pumps and 2 puffs until help arrives.
The mouth just has to be close to the nose right? We don’t make the puffs covering their nose and mouth with our mouth right?
The nose and mouth are basically right next to each other on a baby... Your mouth will cover both so that's why you don't need to pinch the nose
She didn't cover the nose in the video
@@baruchsalgado1790 Ik 1 year later but yes you absolutely need to cover the nose and mouth with your mouth ... it saves lives
@@MidnightGaming1221 thank you for responding
Also make sure baby is on the floor NOT the bed. I watched this heartbreaking video of a mom describing her experience after her daughter died of SIDS. After doing CPR on the baby on the bed, she called 911 and the operator told her to move her baby to the floor since it's not effective on the bed.
This is what happened to Michael Jackson so I never forget this. That story must have been harrowing to listen to. SIDS stories never leave my brain day to day.
I don’t have a baby but this is one of my worst fears.
I can tell you first hand that it is a horrible experience. As a person who had the unfortunate experience of having to perform CPR on a 3 month old, it is stressful.
I think removing the unnecessary advertising at the beginning just incase of emergency situation would be a good idea but thank you for the vid very useful.
I have an emergency situation and I wish I never did...😭
St John Ambulance are a charity so it's only fair they get ad revenue, this is something people should know beforehand.
@@formula1cndn your not going to want to sit around and do nothing while waiting for an ambulance, what if your in the middle of the woods?
@@jackfyfe7743 when you call 911 they don’t say good luck and hang up. They will give you instructions on how to give CPR. Above all, my point is to be prepared so you aren’t googling it when there is a problem.
@@formula1cndn I get your point, let's agree to disagree, as I think a visual how to is more useful than instruction over the telephone but yes always be prepared!
If your in America its 911 if your watching this video from US. Don't dial the other numbers if you live in America. Great video!
The best clip I have seen. Thank-you! Done the course before; going for a refresher now,
you are supposed to give initial rescue breaths covering both nose and mouth with your mouth. if you cant, pinch nose before blowing into mouth so that air dnt escape from nose
thank you for your helpful instruction
Make a seal around mouth and nose? I only saw a seal around the mouth in that demonstration.
very good
I saved my sisters life lol tysm for this vid
Lol?
I really hope no one was frantically typing this into the search
Really informative... Appreciate it
i am not trying to be rude by i think CPR videos, especially for infants and children should get to the point straight away of how hard to pump the chest. As infants and children do not have as strong an organ as teens and adults.
Thank you
thanks. very useful to all.
Oh God I'm so stressed for this exam like there is no tomorrow... I pray to God I pass it but without additional actual training on a baby doll I so dread to think of the odds T-T... what do I do... the puffs terrify me, I'm terrified they'll either be too strong or too weak for the baby mannequin... Lord have mercy.
Hey it's been a month, how did it go?
@@laylaneild4793 Haha I really did panic back then ^^'. Hey thanks for asking, it wasn't excellent but wasn't terrible either, let's say I made just enough points to pass the exam, I _really_ didn't think that was gonna happen but here I am.. I'm very grateful I don't have to go through that exam again, thank God..
Do you also have classes such as this?
Life skills should be a more important subject at school. Schools are always telling you to use a condom, but there is no information given for having a baby when you want one. I never learned CPR and it could be one of the most important things people learn in life. Because it can be the difference between life and death.
Better than other demo
I am joining St. John's a bu lance
I didn't know they had a Abulance division? Thought only ambulance.
I’m confused, I know this video is old but isn’t the ratio 15:2 and not 30:2 in terms of compressions and ventilations?
Excellent

Really informative, as a cadet first aider we are told not to do the rescue breaths due to covid
I would rather catch/give covid than watch a baby or anyone for that matter unable to breath..
@@alanmc1846 I was about to say the same and I totally agree with you
So u are trying to avoid the spread of covid that has 99% recovery rate, but it’s ok if they die from something else which obviously has a higher death rate if cpr is required. What a world we live in!
@@alanmc1846 i second that
Thank you for the video, just tried it today but son kept slapping me and pushing me away. Didn't want to try CPR
Hope you didn't do compressions, because I remember hearing compressing a normally beating heart could cause it to stop 😨
@@joshuamathew1534 Definitely not I was joking about it I wouldn't do that to my then 1 year old
DAM I RELLY LOVE THAT SONG CPR BE BUSSING THO
Just to confirm, are all of the rescue breaths over the mouth and nose or just the initial one? Thanks
It’s over the mouth and nose
Please upload to Telugu videos
This says to put the mouth over the nose and mouth, but in the video, it's just the mouth. Which is correct?
Hi Evie, thank you for your comment. Apologies if this is unclear in the video, the advice is to make a seal around the nose and mouth.
pitch the nose
This has some incorrect information. The correct amount of compressions is 15 to 2 breaths (after the 5 rescue breaths).
I watched this video to remind myself before an exam, and I failed because I said 30 to 2. that is the ratio for adults.
15/2 would only be appropriate if you have someone to help otherwise 30/2
Hello, the technique will differ depending if the first aider is a trained healthcare professional or layperson. The advice is this video based on guidance given by the Resuscitation Council UK for laypeople.
A couple years ago it was 15 to 2 but today it's 30 to 2. New studies found out that cpr is more succesful with a 30 to 2 ratio
How old is a baby in terms of CPR?
Is it from when they are born up until they are one years old?
I believe it's from newborns to 1 year olds
@@peacefulchaos333 when I was about 8 months someone gave me a CPR . I think age doesn't require for CPR

Or if you're American call 911
Camille cami this is an ignorant comment. Even if the ambulance is on their way, you would still want your baby to live, right? Well the ambulance may not get there fast enough and it is better safe than sorry
She's saying that instead of calling the uk version of the police, she gave americas version. Reading is fundamental. Fuckin twit.
Great misunderstanding! No need to be all dissin and stuff though, ya know?
Dear God🙏💕❤ in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness.
I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin.
You said in the bible that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved.
Right now I confess Jesus as my Lord. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved. Amen.

Question; what do I do if it isn't my baby? I don't want to put my mouth on an infant baby I don't know. I could have harmful bacteria in my mouth that could harm him or her. Just wondering. I'm a student nurse. We were taught CPR. But it wasn't like this and I'm curious. We were told to ever put our mouth on the babies mouth.
Coconut ScienceGirl92 I would think that if a child isn't breathing, that bacteria is the least worry at the moment.
sure....i agree with that..however...90% of the population carries herpes.....usually simplex 1....in the long run that could have harmful effects on the infant ...i know saving them is more important though....also if the child is choking....you should never breath into them as it could further lodge the foreign matter in the esophagus
Remember this is an emergency situation. It is a matter of life and death, so herpes or other infections are better than letting a child die of course.
And if the child is choking you dont do CPR at that moment of course. You do 5 hits on the back with 5 presses on the chest, till help arrives.
But if the choking child, STOPS BREATHING. Then you DO start CPR also including the 2 breaths. And foreign matter wouldnt go into the esophagus, I think you mean the trachea? Anyways if someone stops breathing then you dont have any other option than CPR till helps arrives.
idiot
Coconut ScienceGirl92 I would suggest carrying around a pocket mask, this is a cheap one use device that is a keychain it keeps you and the baby protected from harmful bacteria.
Why has st.john gone to bland videos. The instruction is good but the setting is not conducive to comfortable viewing. Contrasting surface and background would definitely help.
Get a life
I certainly don't think that having a pretty background is relevant or even anywhere near as important as just learning how to perform CPR on a baby. I hope that if or when you have to perform it, someone has thought to provide a nice, colourful environment for you first while the baby's life ebbs away. Of course you must have your priorities in order! 👏👌🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕

Place on firm surface. Open their airway.
With one hand on forehead, gently tilt head back with finger tip gently lift chin to open airway.
Make sure mouth is clear.
Blow gently & steadily for 1 second. Remove mouth & watch chest fall.
Do this 5 times.
Pump. Put 2 fingers in centre of babies chest & push down a third of the depth of the chest, release the pressure allowing chest to come back up before pressing back down again.
Repeat this 30 times at a rate of 100 to 120 pumps per minute.
After 30 chest pumps open airway & give a further 2 puffs.
Continue to alternate between 30 chest pumps, & 2 puffs.
Stop after 1 minute & call 000.
Continue with 30 pumps, 2 puffs.

What's 999/112
Emergency services in some countries (equivalent to 911 in USA).
112 is standard emergency service dispatcher in European union. If you're in EU, 112 is the only number you need to know.
999 also works in any EU countries and it automatically redirects, pretty sure that 911 also works in most European countries to as a way to contact emergency services.
As soon as o had my baby girl 19 years ago, I begged health visitor to put me on baby cpr course, they did, never had to use it, thankfully 🙏🏻but I think it should be part pre natal class.
I agree, not just watching a video about SBS
The most valuable things in life that everyone should know
I wouldn’t say so; I know absolutely 0 people who have had to resuscitate a baby and I’ve worked at a pool for 10 years
@@lukec.1717 it doesnt just happen at pools though. Babies especially under the age of 1 can stop breathing during sleep. Its good to know CPR, because if that happens you dont panic and know what to do. Just because you didnt see it happen doesnt mean it doesnt, or that its not valuable. First aid is literally the most importnat thing everyone should know...
@@lukec.1717 @Sisi R 's comment is absolutely correct!! I have two young siblings (ages 4 and 1). And there have been so many times where I've had to dislodge food from their throats/help them cough it up. (Not full on CPR, but it would come to that if i dont get to them soon enough) The one year old also had allergies which caused her to spit up. If she spat up in her sleep, she would choke and die. Babies can also suffocate themselves by accident. Maybe you dont have children or young siblings and thats why you dont know this... but babies are vulnerable to basically everything, especially newborns. Knowing CPR for infants is something everyone should know. And as @Sisi R said, just because you havnt witnessed something, that doesn't mean it never happens. Babies choking, not breathing in their sleep, etc happens often.

You shouldn't be searching for helpful videos in an emergency - call the emergency number, they will talk you through it. These videos are to prepare you before an emergency
CPR needs to be taught in schools
I took it in elementary school but they never held it again.
My son is 2 weeks old I had so much anxiety watching this but it’s need to know
Is the criteria for neonate is change. Mostly we do 30 compression first and then 2 breath.
As a nurse, I feel I can cope with many if not all emergencies. But I have watched this vid, and those relating to older children, several times. I am particularly reminded of the small child being resuscitated in an Australian supermarket (see RUclips). I would like to think that in a similar circumstance I might be able to perform correctly, hopefully with a successful outcome.
Can we have this fantastic resource with sub titles for those with hearing impairment?
Hi there! If you press the 'CC' (closed captions) button at the bottom right of the video, the subtitles should enable. We've just tested them and they seem to be working but do let us know if you're still having issues.
Fantastic thanks, I wasn't aware of that :-/

confusing, she has to do breaths thru the babys mouth and nose, thats what we were trained to do
God bless you guys!
she never closes his nose while giving the puffs but asks us to do so...i'm confused
