Eveytime i watch this video,or hear this song, I cry. It is so beautiful. It is just how my life married to my husband of 57 yrs. was. In looking back, as hard as it was in the beginning, I would do it all over again. We were very young, and struggled financially. We managed to move past that, after yeas of struggling, and were still in love. He passed away 4 yrs ago, and I would do it all over again.
I have always loved this song initially as a musician because of its structure and chord sequence, but as a middle aged man I now appreciate the message of the lyrics....a man who has achieved everything he aspired to in his youth, but realising it wasn't all it was cracked up to be and hungers for the simpler years of his youth....it's a lesson for us all
Reminds me of my mum and dad every time I hear this masterpiece. They started out penniless in the 60's with a baby, worked so hard and ended up with millions. But I can't help feeling they were happiest back then. But they're not, in reality. My dad reached retirement to enjoy his wealth from hard work and long hours, but sadly passed away too soon. So this song I dedicate to his memory. ☹️
Yes my dear so so very sad. I also lost my mom, my dad and two husbands so I sympathize with your pain. There are no pockets in coffins but he is in a beautiful world now without pain if you are religious. Enjoy life my dear, it goes by so damn quickly. I know now 70 years old trust me.
Am at a loss to understand how it is possible for Neil to not be already in the R&R Hall of fame. The poetry and depth of this song alone gives proof of his talent. Make it happen.
The r&r hof was formed in 1983. They should have inducted all those prior r&r stars immediately over the course of a few months. They’ve really embarrassed themselves with all the stars they’ve omitted.
You are absolutely right I did not know he was not in the Hall of Fame. Also Johnny Maestro one of the greatest voices that ever lived also should be with him and rock 'n' roll Hall of Fame. It's a shame.
Halls of Fame are an (American, of course) joke anyway. Tiger had won 14 majors BEFORE they deemed to put him in golf's HofF, alongside others who won only a single major. Neil Sedaka's music is in its own Hall of Fame ❤ I forgot how brilliant his voice is, too
Yes I also can relate to this wonderful song written by one of the masters who grasps your heart and soul for I have lived the ballad many years ago. I too miss the hungry years for many years later after being divorced, and remarried I still miss him. Now a widow and alone being older now I still have memories of the loves in my life.
Oh how melodramatic. And so incorrect. Since 1957 the guy made a shit ton of money and achieved a huge amount of fame. He was great, but stop lamenting already.
I also miss the hungry years. I was happier when I was young and had very little. Things were simpler, life was sweet. I had good health and a love of life. I am now an old man who wants for nothing (except good health) I would be happy to go back to the hungry years.
The hungry years are the best years of our lives , when we struggle with life then we are truly living it....I love this song for it reminds me to live in the moment because the moment passes and we can never get it back.
@@mariaelenacumigad9988 Hi Marie Elena, This song is called THE HUNGRY YEARS, written and sung by NEIL SEDAKA, Yes it is a lovely song, makes us all want to cry, we struggle in our younger years , for materia!, things, when we get older, it seems unimportant! Take care ,Stay safe 💚☘️👍🇮🇪
No one in the whole world does a Neil Sedaka song better than he does, you hear the full meaning and emotion in every word from that great man. Thanks Neil.
I sure does for the words come straight from his heart and soul and so many of us can relate even now. Loosing love is like a death you never loose the memories just the person with whom you shared the love with.
Ii am 82 years young...when Neil came upon the scene so many years ago, there was too much going on...I l;oved him then but now, I positively adore him! I listen to his music throughout the day. If anyone should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Of Fame it's NEIL SEDAKA!!! Please make it happen....Neil I sing with you all day, every day...

I love this song I pray to God that they can find a cure for this virus that's going around the world my father loved this song he has passed away we all need to stand together and help the world I hope they can find a cure and we don't end up singing we missed the hungry years but my mum and dad said it was hard times then but the world was a much better time to 💓💓
he get's me every time.there's something in his voice that just brings out emotion you try to keep in.i cry alot when i listen to him.not many people can move me.and he certainly can
I just heard him on a chat show in U.K. He's on tour. I had to visit here and get a fix. Great talent this man has. Thanks Mr. Sedaka for all the pleasure you have given me,and millions of others.
Very true. Also, the lyrics are so clear and simple while saying so much. Even if English isn't your primary language, as was the case with this Dutch audience, the full meaning of each line comes through easily.
Everything you touch turns to gold, thank you for all the memories and Wonderful music..Neil Sedaka for the Rock and roll Hall Of fame..100% YES..It's where you belong..
He has the most beautiful golden voice I think I've ever heard in pop.He sings with ease just incredible & wonderful guy,who overcame hardship & believed in himself. He truly is a gift to us all on this planet. ❤️
This songs really shows how music in this day age is not same quality great likes Neil Sedaka. You tell me at the moment how can you compare his talent to the talent these days?He is a genuis

I've been privileged to see him twice at the City Hall in Sheffield, England. He was fantastic, staggeringly talented and comes across as a delightful person.
What it takes to be a star: so confident and self-assertive. Only simple when one is a spectator. Think of what it means to be there alone, on your own: before an audience. Yet so in control.
Perfection, pure and simple. I lost my Mum and Great Aunt a few months ago and now this song means so much more now than before. It shows how fragile life is and can turn in an instance, just appreciate how good life is while you can.
Lovely song, perfect presentation. I recall my Mum telling me in the autumn of her life that this song reminded her of how she and Dad first stuggled, but as a family they never let it show. Good, modest people, greatly missed.
I saw Neil Sedaka in concert a few years ago and he was better than ever. This song says it all. Nothing in life, not even fortune...money...fame...replaces what really matters...the love that connects two souls
He should definitely be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame for sure ,I thought he was in already Please lets do something for this great talent
multi talented genius.. exceptional song writer, brilliant pianist,a clear voice with a vast range of notes.. they don't make popular artists like this anymore.
So much power in this song. They were young and hungry, struggling. Now that the've made it to the top, something is missing. He wonders what they lost, that strong connection they had back then in the hungry years.

I think my mum n dad felt the same, they didn't have much then but they had everything that was important

Exactly what I want now.
That is so sad and so very poignant 😢
This man wrote some great songs , most people don't even know he wrote them.
The fact that Neil Sedaka and Connie Francis (who recorded a few of his songs) are not in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame is a crime!
This will give you an idea how political it is
One of the most underrated vocalists/song writers. Such a talent
My late dad's favourite song, now mines ❤. I certainly miss the hungry years with my terrific mum and dad x
This man was, is and always will be the real deal. Masterly songwriter, a gorgeous voice and a superb performer.

As Neil said, you only get to write one of these in one lifetime. Beyond wonderful.
Very few singers have the raw talent of Sedaka.. a classically beautiful voice that requires no bells or whistles to dress it up
There's a point when song lyrics become poetry without losing their function.
This is another beautiful song by Sedaka.
