- This is another fire engine model, the third that I have done. This is one of the oldest models that I have made over so far. Built in 1955 this means that today this model is 64 years old!! - Small and cute, this model was definately not a push over. Thinking I would strip this down and repaint in a couple of hours, how wrong I was! - The paint stripping, repairs and re-painting took much longer than I had anticipated. I am glad that I saw it through because now I have another beautifully simple original style matchbox vehicle for my collection.

Nice tribute to the Firefighters! Great job on this cool little fire truck 😊
Cute model 👍👌
Thanks Brian I agree. Such a simple little insignificant thing.
Awesome restoration , Marty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I respect your support for the Firefighters battling the dangerous conditions. Hope they get things under control soon. Also, I’m looking forward to Kevin’s return from the bush.
Thanks Eloy.
Another great makeover and salute to the firefighters of Australia. I'm a retired London Policeman and have worked very closely with the fire brigade over the years. Fantastic job, much respects.
Respect for you Keith, being a London 'Bobby' would be quite a challenge i'm sure!
Another great video for a very noble cause. Those fire fighters are very brave and doing a great job
Too true Ben, thumbs up for the firerys!
A Huge Thanks to the Firefighters out risking life and limb. You guys are appreciated wherever you step forward. Beautiful job on the fire engine, Marty ( as usual ) Thank you for the video!
Hello Marty, being from Southern California I am totally sympathetic and empathetic to your fire fighters and the battles they are waging. I believe there are some of our heroes over there helping out as I write this. God bless them and keep all of the fire fighters. And it’s nice to hear that Kevin is helping his mates out too. Nice little restoration. It came out beautifully. See ya next time.
Lovely job Marty. Yeh can't beat the superglue and baking soda for building up missing bits as strong as steel. Great job.
It certainly has baled me out a few times.
Really beautiful and a great tribute to the fire crews battling bush fires across the country. We’ve seen pictures of the devastation of koala habitats and their populations and caring conservationists rescuing survivors. Well done Australia!
Another great restoration....
Good job Marty. We are happy with that.
Really nice restoration Marty. A really nice tribute to the Aussie Fire Fighters 👍🚒
Hey Marty, I did enjoy this restoration and do celebrate the heroism of the brave firefighters around the world for their courage and bravery!
Great camera work getting close up shots of the work being done. Project finished up nicely!
Leaving a "thumbs up" for your brave Firefigthers doing their utmost to keep the fires down!.
Millions of hectares burnt. It's almost unthinkable.
Marty, another excellent job! This little truck is so much smaller than the usual Matchbox scale, it’s a wonder you could file between 1mm wheel spokes! You have a very steady hand in painting (and all else)...thanks again for sharing.
Those wheels look pretty good, not out of place at all. Nice restoration!
Those early Lesney's are really nice. Good job.
Hi Marty! You are right= sometimes the small things are more complicated (and challenging) than the big ones. But your lovely restoration job is exactly the needed for this early Matchbox Model. Top notch result 🤩👍 Only a minor color suggestion: metallic surfaces in this class of emergency vehicles are Brass, not gold. You can notice at the end of the video when both machines are side by side. Aniway the final result is a real resurrection model job! 😍 Kudos Marty!
sow's ear or no, that fire lorry looks STUPENDOUS!!!
nice result 😎👍
That’s some great resto work Marty👍👍👍
Brilliant. I love the older Matchbox models with the grey metal wheels over the more modern ones.
Me too Dave, I think they were the ones that I grew up with.
@@MartysMatchboxMakeovers This would almost make you cry! Years ago my father in law was helping a recently retired friend clear what had been a toy shop to turn it into a tobacconists. Rain had got into a storage room at the back and there was a pile of wet cardboard on the floor. As he shovelled the cardboard into a bucket it turned out to be wet Matchboxes and their former contents! He picked up a handful but didn't have time to go through the whole pile! They weren't worth much back then ........
The details on this model are really neat and considering how small it is he did such a great job of repairing it. But freaked me out putting it in the paint stripper can, imagine accidentally dropping it in there! OMG!
Not too bad at all ..Think you're right , the colour is spot on ...👍🏻🤓
Great result, and nicely done.
I think it looks gorgeous Marty.
Lovely! So Beautiful simple wee car
Nice work.cute model!
A real size Matchbox
Amazing work on a little engine.
It looks beautiful, Marty. Nice one.
The fire season looks terrifying as it been on the BBC news. This model is a well deserved tribute to Aussie firemen ,women and local people trying to stop the fires from reaching there property. Well done Marty😁👍
Thanks Marty me and my wife enjoy watching your video, your are making people smile.
Hello Marty, Also in Germany we look with regret, what happens to you. The fires are not pretty, but I'm convinced that it gets under control. The restoration, the fire truck, should also be symbolic as a thank you to all the firefighters in Austarlia who were committed to helping people and animals and extinguishing the fires. They are respected and recognized. I am with you with this thought and heart. Greetings Dieter
Good job Marty, looks very nice.
Very nice!
Very enjoyable restoration :)
Looks good Marty. Keep up the good work.
Nice job Marty😎👍👍👍🚗
Like i said before Marty, you give to this models an other 50 years easily, special if the models ar stored in display cabinets.
I reapet ,i love your job Marty,,one day i will start slowly doing what are you doing. I need the encyclopedia of matchbox toys,i have search somewhere.
Never stop what you are doing, nice work
I found a copy on Amazon.
Hi Marty nice job on the fire engine only today I watched a 1962 movie called go to blazes. Some jewelry thief's steel a fire engine just like your one full size off course to use as a getaway vehicle. I love the old 50s and 60s British movies good old fashioned comedy.
@Iain Botham Cheers Ill check that one out.👍
Beautiful job Marty
Great info ! Wish I saw this before I made my last video!
Great job Marty!!!
Very nice job! 👍
Great Job. Congrats..!
Thank you so much for all the amazing work you do
I think the small castings like this one are really super, the details are sharp and the model is strong enough to be played with, without worrying to much about it being damaged. Thanks for sharing this video with me
I love this model And this models great work, hi of Argentina
Great job Marty
Cute, small and red, like Kevin with sunburn!
And respect to all firefighters, I deal with them almost daily in my job and I have nothing but admiration for them.
Thanks for another great make over. You are part of my Sunday morning breakfast routine.
Perfect restoration. Well done. 👍👍😊
Marty, Mole Grips were first invented and produced by a company called Moles in my home town, now a city, of Newport South Wales, United Kingdom. Thought you would like that little bit of info. Keep up the great work, love your videos. Love to you, Mrs Marty and of course Kevin. xxx
Greetings to Newport from Melbourne!
Excellent restoration Marty! Thanks for that!
Genio! Amo ver sus restauraciones, saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷
Hello Marty, nice restoration of a very simple tiney old toycar. Looks beautiful.
When I watch your video and you talk about the bush fires I can't help but think how more better for the environment it is to rejuvenate old toys like you do then buy modern inferior plastic ones
Damn fine work, Marty.
You should do a video of all your display cases. Great stuff as usual!
Nice tribute to fire fighters...
Very smart fire truck
Yes Indeed Marty, I was fortunate enough to watch and participate with the Epping Fire Brigade doing a back-burn when I visited back in the early 1990's. Hat's off and a salute to all out First Responders worldwide. For those not familiar with the term, a back-burn is purposely done to consume the brush and dry bush that could spark or help a wildfire spread. A fire break. Tom USA
Nice job. I have both models and one has 14 ladder rungs and the other 15. Another small variation.
nice one, great.jpj ps full support for the brave firefighters, best wishes.jpj
Superb job . . .
Good Job, Marty!
Outstanding work Marty! I think you've done a great job on it. Thanks for sharing this.
Cheers John.
Looks awesome.
Outstanding project, a serious piece of work! God bless the firefighters indeed, heroes every one.
Nice job mate.
Awesome as always
Looks perfect to me, regardless of the wheel size. I would be proud to own this fire engine.
Love the Background music and your restoration too
Awesome tribute to all hardworking Firefighters and their support crews.
Well, you certainly started with a sow's ear, and while you may not consider your end product a silk purse, it is a good and faithful restoration that can be judged at least a purse of Moroccan leather, if not silk..........bravo!
Having watched all of your unboxing videos, I can now spend the coming week wondering which of the derelicts will be featured Sunday next.
Coming from a family that produced a number of career firefighters, I share your admiration and respect for them, and thank you for making others aware of the debt we owe all of those that serve the greater good.
It seems like baking soda & super glue succeeds every time. Looks nice for an early hollow casting. Happy Holidays to you all down under.
Happy holidays to you too , it's hot down here right now , it's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas 😁❤🎅
Thanks Daniel hope your Christmas was awesome mate.
@Iain Botham Marty, I am not a politically correct person. I say Merry Christmas and don't give a rat's patootie who doesn't like it. So Merry Christmas to all!
Great effort and nice result!!
Great job as always. As for the fires, I have a friend, Vin, who got stuck on Holliday and couldn’t get home because of them. Sending her best wishes for a safe trip home. Also nice that you are honoring the firemen fighting the fires.
Duane Miller fire people (not being a feminist just facts)...there are women fighting the fires also.
Mandy Jonsen in fact you are being a feminist by your need to be inclusive with the pronouns. Let me guess you don’t like saying mankind in reference to all of humanity. If I had said the men fighting the fires and you made your comment I wouldn’t be saying anything against it, but to say someone is a fireman or policeman is to indicate a profession not gender. Next thing you know you won’t want to use the word woman because it includes the word man.
Duane Miller I’m so far from a feminist just wanted you to know there are fire women fighting the fires also. So don’t have a cow.
Mandy Jonsen never said there wasn’t any women working to put out the fires. Thing is that obviously you understood you were making the same argument as a feminist by insisting on more gender inclusive or gender neutral language otherwise you wouldn’t of had to make the remark about not being a feminist.
Australians call them Firies; no gender at all.
Paramedics are Ambos, "first responders" are composed of Cops, Ambos and Firies, each doing their jobs.
Depending on the location/State, Firies and Ambos are volunteers and not paid
Love you Marty.
Your lchuckle is so enjoyable and almost contagious. Thank you for shout out to the firefighters, that and the little red fire truck is showing some much deserved respect.
I'd say it's most definitely a silk purse, great job Marty......🐨
Your restorations always impress me!
Thanks Marty. My Melbourne weekend is now complete!
I love it Marty, gr8 work.. special thanks also to your firefighters.. we can actually help our firefighters, don’t throw your butts out the window.
Nice one shes a little rippa mate Thumbs up
It's better than alright, it's rad!
Excellent refurbishment. Here’s to all Firefighters the world over!
Hi Marty & Julie, and Kevin!! wonderful, Great restoration! thank you very much. Hugs from Brazil.. Att. Lauro Elias-Brasil
Thanks for an enjoyable start to my Sunday morning Marty! Thoroughly enjoyed this excellent makeover.
A very special model, history.
a nice result, you can be happy with that.
Well, certainly the fires are intense, saw the photos of ESA from space.
One way to add a bit of detail like grill on the radiator etc. would be to use a ultra fine point permanent marker to draw in lines and then a lacquer coat to seal it. They do make paint/gel pens in various colors which usually found in art stores or online under calligraphy/scrap booking supplies and work well but are design to leave a raised line so they feel embossed. Kudos Marty on another makeover and I've found it to tempting at times not to rework the paint work on some non collectible toys and especially cast iron reproductions since it's fun to do.
Great restoration!
I had one of those. After a restoration, that Dennis, plus 100 others of every type (Mack, American LaFrance, et. al.) Were donated to the Houston Fire Department museum.
5 mins in, and Marty is bleeding. I love you mate, haha. I got some models I'd love to send you some time!
Also, I have a really bad one of those old Leyland petrol tankers I dug out my garden! I think the branding is BP if I recall...
Thanks for thinking of me Teh! - I hope you enjoyed this makeover.
@@MartysMatchboxMakeovers the two models i have if you are interested are an Albion chieftain (no.51) and a matchbox series no 11 Mercedes scaffold truck? As well as the ruined tanker if you'd like a second (it has no wheels though)
Wow! This is one lovely model. Even in the original version is just lovely. I love the molded in driver. And the final is fantastic.
Thank you Marty, I really appreciate the time and effort that you put into your videos.
Marty, this video means a lot to me. I've been a subscriber for 7 months. I am going to college to be a wildland firefighter here in the US, a smokejumper specifically. As well as I am going to serve on a municipal fire department. You're videos are amazing Marty! Keep it up! This one meant a lot to me, thank you for that.
Nicely done Marty. And merry Christmas to you down under. From a damp Kevin in Torquay South Devon ..
I wish I was there at the moment. Devon is beautiful and I have great memories of holidaying there as a kid. Hope you have a good Christmas too.
