Here's a note for people looking to move to Thailand: It is a wonderful place and is what you make it. If you put yourself out there you will meet lovely people and be welcomed by the Thai's (they are very polite). The expat community is great but I did meet some people that were lonely and brought their problems from the west with them. Get out there, don't drink more than twice a week, have purpose (goals etc), budget for fun things to do (you can live so cheaply) and have an end goal after 1-2 years. I can't stress enough that you need to have goals when in such a different environment.
The night market is always well worth a visit from time to time. Looks a fun night out but soooo busy there. The powers of recovery for a city that was under water only a matter of a few weeks ago. Top video, cheers Wayne 🤩
Always love seeing nightimte strolls, due to lighting issues that means night markets or red light districts, love seeing both, thanks for showing us around mate.
Always good stuff! Glad to see it coming back. Was there in '21 @ height of covid & it was very quiet. I am glad i went, though. It was quite the experience to be there when so few foreigners were, to see that the city could adapt and move forward regardless of tourism. Thanks for what you do!
It seems busy ? , enjoyed the early evening wander , the Saturday night market had a solid crowd , I think you are right mate - next few months could be packed - Enjoyed this one - Thanks WW ✔️👍✌️👋🙏
I know it’s not your cup of tea Night time packed Farangs wall to wall but come on mate you loved that band a the kids band. Another Bobby dazzler 🙏 Keep em coming
Great vlog as always Wayne. Sadly markets are not my cup of tea but the wife goes into a Thai frenzy when let lose in a market. There is a big one on Koh Phangan (festival time) at the moment so the better half is in Thai heaven. shopping daily.
Hi Wayne, where is the best place to go and buy art during the day in CM? Is there a place or places? I'm coming in January. I love the art I have bought over the years in Thailand and I'm after more.
The old city, that's the best place. Take a walk inside the moat and you will come across many small art shops. Some really nice little shops selling high end stuff.
Awesome stuff mate I went to a big shopping mall yesterday and their were more foreigners but I normally just use the markets near where I live so don’t see any foreign which I quite like
Nice to see this market walking street here . The one in patong Phuket is raunchy and same in Pattaya. This one is very tame . I guess people from Europe will come now but I prefer June July .
Wayne...I had a Spanish teacher in Sacramento, Ca. who just arrived from Mexico. "Where are the people?, he asked. So I really enjoy the night crowds in S E. Asia, and Latin America. Always lonely feeling when i return home. Anyway, time for a Loh Kroh tour, right? Maybe my girls retired by now. But I remember the mamasan who lent $50 when i hit bottom . Thanks. .
Hi! I was on walking street just 30 minutes before you. I was wondering if you know about Ingdoi place. Apartments/rooms near Airport Plaza? Thank you!
Hey Wayne bugs here brother,I done Chiang Mai 28 yrs ago before I lived in Thailand ,done 3/4day mountain trek bathed in the river ate jungle & village food but I was fit then, did stop on the way through to pai & Mai son with me kid about 10 yrs ago, anyway is a visit bed before the smoke or after may? & Where would a chap like me stay il be on foot don't like alt of farangs!
Nice one David! Before May would have to be soon to avoid the burning mate but I can't answer that for you. Getting away from farangs isa bit tricky and still being able to walk. I would still say this area, south of the city. During the week tourists don't seem to come South Gate so much.
and you don't need to have been everywhere to declare a city is "like no other" when the city is unique. I feel the same way about Provincetown on Cape Cod- or Lucca in Tuscany.
I wouldn't say CM gate busy during the day, I'm seeing a lot more people around though, especially families. Best I've seen it for a while, defo on the right track.
Aussie here. Moved permanently to Chiang Mai 6 yrs ago. Been bloody fantastic. BUT, CHIANG MAI 2024 has turned into BEIJING. Chinese EVERYWHERE. In the past 6 yrs I have NEVER seen CM as BUSY as it is now. Loi Krathong last weekend was OVER THE TOP with TOURISTS….. the traffic was like Bangkok. Normally it gets busy a week or two before Xmas/New Year but it’s 3rd week in November and it is MAXED OUT with tourists already. An ex-pat consensus is that we have seen the best of CM and it ain’t coming back. The Chinese are buying up all the Condo buildings, commercial buildings and warehouses and pushing sale and rent prices SKY HIGH, double to triple what they have always been and only selling/renting to fellow Chinese. Yep, CM has had the prawn. And you gotta ask, what’s it going to be like in 5-10 yrs time. The increased population and traffic is way OVER THE TOP NOW. Chiang Mai is DONE!!!! And observing the foreign tourists, media posers, COVERED IN TATTOOS, OBESE, with self indulgent arrogant attitudes, all a far cry from the gentility of the Thai family culture. It’s why we escaped the west years ago, and it’s now permeating CM…. turning it into ANOTHER HIPSTER TIKTOK LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME CLONE CITY OF WESTERN DEGRADATION……. Many original expats, including moi, are MOVING OUT. It’s ALREADY DONE… so yeah, in another 5 yrs it will be just another BANGKOK coffee shop tattoo shop CLONE. We LOVE (D) CM, but who wants what it is turning into?? The laid back quiet traditional Thai charm is RAPIDLY BEING DILUTED. We are thinking Siem Reap in Cambodia or Rishikesh in India ….. anywhere that’s far far away from this Chinese TIKTOK INSTAGRAM WESTERN PERVASION invasion…….
I hear what your saying buddy. I must admit, I've been searching for more chilled places lately. I love CHIANG MAI but I have to agree with most of what your saying. I'll probably move out of the city in the near future, just a nearby district. It's great for the local business, but I do agree with what your saying.

Tha's pretty much spot on Rick, I have many vlogs on this. Couldn't have said it better myself.
Cant wait to come back to my home away from home.. CM is always special❤
Nice! Chiang Mai is a magical city. 👌
Hoping for the locals this high season is prosperous and people are not avoiding Chiang Mai due to the floods.
I got a feeling it will be a good high season. Can't see the foods still being an issue.
Hi Wayne you made me home sick already we will be there middle of December can’t wait to see
Sorry mate 🤣. December is just around the corner though buddy. Happy Days 👌
The night market is always well worth a visit from time to time. Looks a fun night out but soooo busy there. The powers of recovery for a city that was under water only a matter of a few weeks ago. Top video, cheers Wayne 🤩
Nice stroll around at night mate. Not done the market for a while. It was quite busy. Cheers man.
Excellent night time vlog. I always love these. Thanks 😆👍🏼
Thanks mate 👍

Cheers Chris! It was lively out arond the market, things are looking good. It's still not overly busy in the day time, but things are on the up.
Been here for ten days and is pretty busy - off to the Sunday market tonight
Nice one Lisa, hope you had a good night.
@@WalkAboutWaynewas so busy but had some lovely food

It's looking good at night these days.

Nice one Ant! Yeah it wasn’t to bad , a lot of people around. I got a feeling it could be busy this year, but then again I could be wrong 🤣
I know it’s not your cup of tea
Night time packed Farangs wall to wall but come on mate you loved that band a the kids band. Another Bobby dazzler 🙏
Keep em coming
For sure mate, I had a good walk around. I didn't get irate by any farangs either 🤣. Well, except for the ones stopping in the middle of the walk way.
30 mins left whilst I work from home. Just clicked this vid to see us through. Ta, lad!
Nice one buddy! Hope all is well.
very nice man! I booked my ticket to Bangkok for dec 2, and will be coming up to chiang mai after a few days in bangkok. hope to run into you there!
Happy days mate, hope to see you around Chiang Mai.
...and pineapple pieces. Del Monte.
good video
That's it! Del Monte was pineapple aswell 🤣. Thanks
Hey Wayne. Thanks for the tour! Do they have any public restrooms in the market areas?
Thank you! You'll normally need to find a temple or restaurant for a toilet.
Me and the missus were there a year ago. Great place.
Nice one Phil 👍

Cheers Colin, yes not my thing these days. It was good to have my yearly walk down the night market though.

@@WalkAboutWayne all good thanks mate hope you have recovered from the floods

Yes, I seen more raunchy stuff down that way. Cheers mate.

Hi! I was on walking street just 30 minutes before you. I was wondering if you know about Ingdoi place. Apartments/rooms near Airport Plaza?

Great! Hope you had a good night at the market. Sure, I know Ing Doi well. Thanks.

Whos about!? Our Galavanting Wayne❤💪🪖🏴🕊
I'm out gallivanting 🤣
nice traditional music - lets you know you know you are in Thailand - it's not The Pogues but what can you do...
It's nearly that time of year again for The Pogues 🤣
That was the only true thai musicians ive seen on any video...
That kid was awesome on this drums.
Went August 2 years ago seemed busier then
2 years a go? Really? Wow 2 years a go it was dead for me. That would have been 2022, Covid effects was still full flow here.
@@WalkAboutWayne the gate seems to be a lot busier than 2022 was dead then but the market was ramed
Is it my imagination, or do more people have masks on these days? another great vlog-thanks
Lot's of dust around from the floods mate. I'm wearing mine on the bike. Cheers buddy.
and you don't need to have been everywhere to declare a city is "like no other" when the city is unique. I feel the same way about Provincetown on Cape Cod- or Lucca in Tuscany.

@@WalkAboutWayne oh gosh now... Daytime busy would be.... Central Festival 555..aircon... Or Tha Phae area
@onehappykamper Yeah, Tha Phae always seems busy most days and Central Festival was busy yesterday. I agree it’s not busy everywhere though 👍
