Hi, Wayne Phrae is a great sleepy big town. Married a lady 42 years ago from there. We travel back every year to visit family, you're right, there's no taxis or grabs or big shopping Mall, Keep the blogs coming.
Thanks for sharing! Phrae looks like a nice litle town. No farang around is a very good sign in my eyes. To live there it would force one to learn Thai, which is a good thing anyway.
Yes, it's nearly a perfect town for anyone who likes this style of living. I really like these small towns. Language would be easier here as forced to learn, as you mentioned.
Yeah, my wife of 15 years comes from there, got married there, now we both live in New Zealand, I've been many times, still not seen it all, check out the old museum/prison, free to enter and very interesting
Loved that lady inviting you in and chatting away in Thai, no idea what she was saying but there was the ideal opportunity to whip out the free translation app such as google app and hold a conversation. Next time I'm over there with the missus and on her farm where it is unchartered territory by the Western world and pretty much nobody our age speaks English, I will be using one for sure. Anyway love these unchartered towns and thanks for taking us all there with you. Stay at any of these places for any length of time and they'll be trying to marry you off 😂🤣😂 Love all that art work there too. Nice one Wayne 🤩
Brilliant Wayne, looks like you are going to fit right in there. Great little town by the looks of it. Enjoy mate, can't wait too see what happens after the sun goes down. Cheers mate, stay safe
I love the sleepy little town vibes. The ones that are close enough to a big city - to visit. The ones that are just big enough to have key amenities. Korat fits the bit for me.
Good one Wayne, fun and almost like stepping back a few decades to the old Siam I've all but forgot. And really what do you have in Chaing Mai (other than distractions) you wouldn't have there? And if you had a nice place on a bit of land and a nice sewing lady to keep you stitched up it, maybe that would be the better deal.
Cheers Jack. Yes mate, it's like stepping back in time. I've just heard from a few westerners who live here also. So hopefully get some inside info on life here.
Phrae is a real gem. We moved here 7 years ago from Chiang Mai and would never go back. The city is charming. They have preserved the old city within the wall. You can see authentic Thailand. The mountains and scenery are spectacular and very close to the city. Please stop and see us at SuanGlangNa. I will feed you a coffee or beer and we can share Northern Thai experiences. Jerome Wood
Another good one, mate! Loving those smaller towns! Maybe it is time to pack up your bags & start considering longer stays, perhaps a month or two, in some of the places you have already scouted out. See what the local hotels and hostels say about discounts for extended stays. It might even help you improve your Thai language skills, by staying out of Chiang Mai and other tourist-infested places for even longer periods. A couple of days is really not long enough to judge a place adequately for retirement. From personal experience, I would want to stay at least 3-6 months, before making any long-term plans, and at least a year or two, before even considering settling down on a more or less permanent basis. At the very least, you need to experience a full year's worth of good & bad weather. Just my two baht of opinion, though. Waffle on! :)
Gday Wayne - I think the first sewing lady was “ keen “ to have you hang around 🤩 - Phrae is well spread out and looks a bit conservative lol - look forward to more ✔️👌👋👍🙏
It's not a tourist town. No big business. Younger people probably move to big cities to find jobs while older ones stay behind. The lady said her daughter married a British guy and offered you a free coffee. She lives alone.
I think you are going to be spoilt for choice when your retirement comes. But the good people of Chiang Rai are expecting you to pick them. We never stayed in Phrae but spent a lot of money buying teak furniture and lots problems from one shop which took months to sort. But there are so many nice cities heading south and rarely will you met a Westerner . Keep up the good work always enjoy breakfast with you on my laptop.
Thanks Colin! Yes, so many of these small towns. I really like Phrae, it's not my number one but it's in the top 3. I'll see you at breakfast again buddy 👍
First she said look sow me engrit ,my daughter has a english man, then she said something about the market tonight,😅 you should learn a bit Wayne it brings a whole new protective on the people 😊
Wow really! These small authentic towns are exactly the opposite to me. Once these are gone or over run with farangs, it’s all over. These towns are the true essence of Northern Thailand. 🇹🇭

Love those old towns too mate. Especially the ones without U-Tubers, digital nomads & farangs👌
Them bloody Tubers! They even get to these old real towns. Who do they think they are, with their crap action cameras and 500 baht hotels. 🤣
How in gods name would we ever see any of this without Wayne. Absolutely love it
Keep em coming 🙏
Haha I’m not sure about that mate, lots of people sone these towns before me. Thanks thought buddy.
Glad you enjoying phrae .. it’s great and phrae won 2-1 last night. Keep up the good work .
Nice one Brian, I would have watched that 👍

Cheers mate! It’s a cool little place. Feels like the Wild West , so I should fit right in 🤣🤣
Wow!!! Very impressed with daily posts.I love visiting the rural towns in northern Thailand.
The daily won't last long mate 🤣. I'm trying to keep up with all the content. I prefer the smaller towns also 👍

These small towns attract me also. I agree, they need to be close enough to a big city. I'll have to visit Korat one day.
Fantastic stuff mate
Living the dream 🙂👍
Thanks mate, I can’t complain .

Nice little place mate was a bit random with all those old shops then suddenly a pizza hit 😂
I was shocked to see a Pizza Hut 🤣
Naughty Wayne went straight back to the lovely old lady😂
🤣🤣 I don't know about that mate.
The clothes lady said, "my daughter has a boyfriend from England."
Married I think 👍
So good my friend
Thanks 👍
First she said look sow me engrit ,my daughter has a english man, then she said something about the market tonight,😅 you should learn a bit Wayne it brings a whole new protective on the people 😊
Her daughter married an English guy, no market on this road , offered to make me coffee. Lovely lady 👍👍
Do a video on how much rent is there mate
Not many condos around , only hotels and houses.
What are the prices for buying land there?
I would guess really cheap
I guess it's walkaboutsabai😅
🤣🤣 New name I think
Prospective
Happy Days 👍
WTF 180 baht for bananas??? never seen it anywhere near that price.
Yea that was a bit steep. They were whoppers and a big bunch but I agree, don’t think I’ve ever seen 180 either .
But what would i without my bar girls? Uh...keep my $? Meet nice people? Be normal? Let me think about it.
🤣 You would need to settle down and find a nice lady mate.
I am sorry but these developing world countries small rural towns are very depressing for me.
Wow really! These small authentic towns are exactly the opposite to me. Once these are gone or over run with farangs, it’s all over. These towns are the true essence of Northern Thailand. 🇹🇭
@@WalkAboutWayne too right Wayne. 100% agree. This dude has probably never left his own country and none the wiser.
