The only thing I get from watching Robert and anyone else who employs the Michael Ellis technique- is frustrated. 😅 This is great for advanced dog owners but terrible for new owners who are a blank slate.
@raymonddeflaviis2306 There was nothing advanced about Robert's teachings. He simply pointed out basic failings to help student's refine their own techniques.
This is so timely for me and my dog. Thanks - these are key insights, Robert. We've been upping the fun-energy with playing and I'm now getting fast, bouncy obedience at the same time. It brings joy and really helps!
Maaaann!! Cabral stays 10 steps ahead and really shows the difference between obedience and advanced obedience. I love how he interprets the best way the dog will learn what the handler is trying to get him/her to do. Wish I could’ve seen him work some of the dogs himself, but this was still very informative!!
I LOVE what you did here. You worked with real people and their nuances with THEIR dogs rather than dogs carefully selected for a tutorial video. Excellent video! It makes me feel very good about the work I am doing with my own dog. I'm watching them all out of order, but I can't wait to view the rest!!!
I loved every minute! I’m guilty of being soft with my commands and I catch myself. Robert I loved how you said be the sheep 😂. I have a border collie and I need to be a sheep. I liked the way you put that into prospective. Thanks and well done to all of you!
@@NateSchoemer Robert really is. {Only just discovered you, though today!} Re Kodo a rescue dog Robert found a home for, Kodo was utterly focussed on Robert..yet on old Kodo vids it said Kodo was returned as bad with either dogs and guarding his person. Robert is naturally commanding...can't see any dog not taking notice of him. I do notice even my gentle dogs love 'strong' men. {I'm a woman}
This is so timely for me and my dog. I notice that when we get more engagement, we get less focus on treats in themselves. I have been upping the fun- energy with playing and I'm now getting excited bouncy obedience at the same time. It really helps!
Love this video. Exactly what I do in training my GSD. Nate Schoemer and Robert Cabral Are the real deal unlike some trainers on RUclips. What you see is what you get. Finished doing a training session with my GSD.
THIS is an awesome video! Collaboration between 2 real Dog Trainers Dog Lovers. So much solid so key information here. Thank you Nate and Thank you Robert @RobertCabralDogs
This is awesome!! The hardest thing I've found is making myself exciting. I am always worried about looking like an idiot. Once you get past that you have so much more success
Great video! Thank you both so much for this. There is so much to learn from. Seeing other people in real-life training really helps to understand where my own flaws are.
Interesting to watch several people doing the same type of things with their dog and being trained to do it better. Each of them has different types of things to change. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this video with us. Very helpful and inspiring information and ideas, represented in a way that I just couldn't stop watching and listening. Thank you❤.
So much amazing information in here!! Saving this video cause i know Im gonna be coming back to it for a long time to come. Thanks so much for posting!!
And yes, that last dog either is too softy or was abused before by a man (just from another point of view, and im not referring to the handler, he looks easy to scare away, just review the video), (she needs to be more excited and assertive to speak with confidence-not like asking permision. She really need to feel great about having accomplishments with her furry friend. That will help, just keep up with the great job you guys are doing. Thanks Nate and thabk you Robert that was an awesome surprise of you both to us, a treat 🐕🦺🦮😁
To the cute girl in the orange hoody. What Robert is saying about your commands is that when you give them you say then with "upwards-inflection". The pitch of your voice rises towards the end of the word. A command should have flat or downwards inflection. @Nate thanks for having Robert on very interesting episode.
Ok, I agree with Robert on most of this content. I wouldn't grab a dog by the scruff of their neck. But I agree with the chaining process and moving to be more exciting. It is difficult to watch some of the people with little to no motivation with their dogs. Afraid maybe of what others will think? I did skip through some of the vid as I was getting frustrated that even after being given the best instruction from Nate, some of these folks are not applying it to their dogs and they are blaming the dog. It's not the dog! When my dog isn't doing something I keep wondering how I'm not communicating correctly with my dog. That scratching is just the dog communicating stress. Also head shakes are usually the same thing, dog stress. It is good that Robert gives the instruction what to do instead of just taking the leash. However sometimes it might be good to demonstrate... I'm so ADD, hope I'm making sense here! 😂
I appreciate your feedback, and yes, it can be frustrating when you've told someone something countless times, and they still do it the wrong way. It's always clear to see who puts in the most effort and who doesn't.
This was super helpful… especially the part where he recommends correcting the dog from a distance so the dog only associates great things with coming to you. 💪🏼🐺
I'm going to implement some of these right away with my service dog. She is a senior now and does her job well still, but at home she is unenthusiastic and depressed about doing any kind of activities. The vet says she has fast developing cataracts and is starting the early processes of going blind. This has her very depressed. She loves her job and she's been so happy on our littke farm at home until this. I'm trying to help pull her out of her funk and realize she can still have fun and have a good life even if her eyes aren't working as well as they used to. 💔 Getting the puppy (who will hopefully be her successor) definitely didn't help, but she's starting to like the pup.
Brilliant video. I love all the tips about feeding and not always depending on food every time. I’m made that mistake early on with my GSD and have worked on it to improve. I just love your training ❤
Some useful training tips for chase based focus. Eps is from a very scent driven breed and we will use more move away techniques suggested for regathering attention. The vocal tonal qualities are something I also notice effecting our work too. When my energy is flagging or I am upset or cross it becomes more of a challenge to deliver useful cues. I (Eps handler) have studied music for years and have an interest languages and tone recognition. Dogs ears are so much more effective at collecting sound. With human speech in questions the last sound is higher Are ^ you? The you is a higher note. Statements the last sound is a lower frequency and often more staccato. Interestingly this is in all tonal languages in a vast majority of the spoken language. It seems like dogs understand this (probably effects our body language too). Newborns already have an understanding of the call and response tonal changes within 1hr of being born a study found. I wonder if dog vocalisations have similar characteristics. Interesting.
I really enjoyed this and I’m a very amateur trainer. I thought there were three different levels of handler and learned something from each that will help me. One of the things that I saw a trainer say and stuck in my head when training was, are you Disneyland or are you like watching paint dry? Be Disneyland….that first trainer 😊
So apparently I really need to do whatever she (the first woman) is doing because my 8 month old pup was absolutely **glued** to the TV during this video. Also, i was working with my pup while watching this, and using the tips given, and I'm starting to see him **finally** not always focused on whatever is in my hands. It's a goddamn miracle.
Luv' it! So many handlers want to teach several components at a time, breaking it down to a single Yes! Energy from the handler will bring energy out in the dog. Using the voice is critical at the right moment. I feel too much verbal noise just becomes white noise to the dog, it's ' our movement' am I on track with this?
I really loved to see you guys working together... At first it was confusing to see you Nate introducing and then started seeing Robert 😂😂😅, but I pretty much lived it to see you guys doing this fantastic presentation and obviously, how Robert wants to be in the same page with Nate it's wonderful. In training put your dog in drive with some play before you begin . Put play into the obedient regime Like asking for a down sit free play down, free down free sit etc
So I have a dog that can’t focus on me. If you were to just play with her, you wouldn’t know it but there is something off in her vision. You can really only tell when working on focus. She has had testing and is completely clear of any known eye issues. She has been to a vet and multiple canine optometrist and they can find nothing physically wrong with her although they see the problem as clearly as I do. However to get her to look at my face (actually a treat) I have to hold it 6 inches to a foot away from me depending on how far away she is. This does not transfer when we are in the act of training focus. I started trying the day she came home. Because of this, she does not (or can’t) keep her vision on me when I give commands or in heel position, etc. She learns other things very quickly as in she literally had the most solid recall from a football field away on the second day I was teaching it to her and it is still as solid eight months later. Any thoughts or ideas?

What about teaching focused heel on a hound?
I would imagine that teaching a focused heel on a hound would take much longer and would be much more difficult than many other breeds.

You can, the clicker is only the marker the reward is whatever you give them after

My dog is scared and always anxious outside because of this.
Can you tell me what to do for the dog?
Whats the difference between calling ur dogs name to come to you when distracted like in the video and “come” (a recall)?
👏👏👏
My GSD is OBSESSED with chasing lizards. It’s all she focuses on
Bedankt
have a 3 yr mix she loves to jump shoulder high she comes from behind how do I deal with that
Where did you get your German shepherd t shirt
do you offer any courses for people who work in animal shelters? , i work with thousands of dogs every year and i try to help them in short periods of time to make them more adoptable and learn basic manners and helping them learn to be dogs any help would be appreciated
Yes. There is a link in the description for Roberts course specifically working with shelter dogs. 😁
@@NateSchoemer awesome, how much is it? I'll do it for more knowledge
What I see on the second Malinois is that the dog is way too much for the owner. Help him because that dog only wants to work
Max was ready but his owner had difficulty keeping up with the energy so it falls dead🥺
It appears that Willow is fed way too well at home to have the motivation necessary to do speedy obedience.
How can i get my dog to stop hyper reacting to our other dogs when we are outside? If he's on a leash he will go crazy when the other dogs are out.
I don’t say this with any judgement, only as kind suggestion. Learn how strengthen vocabulary by removing filler words such as “like” and “you know” or “I think”. These often come across as weak and scattered. I wish this young woman the best no matter. Our society definitely needs great dog trainers, behaviorist, etc.!
That German shepherd doesn't understand what he is supposed to do.
The last girl was irking me
Man. Can u teach my dog those tricks. 😂
Ball under the armpit!
That chick with Choppo doesn't listen to the trainers.
Dogs are easy to train. People are impossible
Disagree.
