Here is a explanation or somewhat an explanation to the blue color on Lings. "The cause of this rare turquoise color is due to a bile pigment called biliverdin, which is responsible for turning the blood serum of these fish that freakishly odd color - but how this pigment gets into the tissues and flesh of the fish, or why only some lingcod turn this striking shade, still leaves biologists puzzled. Biliverdin is also the pigment that is responsible for that greenish color sometimes seen in bruises." "No one knows precisely what causes this variation, but biologists believe the strange green or blue hues indicate that the lingcod have consumed a diet rich in chlorophyll, eating more plant matter-green algae through small crustaceans-than the rest."
That’s interesting! I wonder if it’s a similar situation for redfish and grouper who is tails turn blue after eating more shrimp at curtain times of the year. Since shrimp are lower on the food chain than it would make sense that their bodies would retain the chlorophyll. The thing about lingcod though is that they tend to eat pretty high on the food chain. Of course it differs from individual to individual but most of the time they eat other predators. I wonder if blue lingcod can become brown or if brown lingcod can become blue when exposed to different diets?
Wow Adam you are surely going to fill the freezer with days like this. I enjoy watching your videos for several reasons.1- it is so informative 2- you never get skunked. You are truly a blessed young man. Keep up the good work, enjoy yourself and stay safe. Aloha from Kansas
When you say ling I sing! I'm east coast and they have made the bucket list. P.S, I have the same kayak and recently had a problem with the Minn Kota. Old Towne customer service is great and replaced it within a week. The remote will tell you. Nicely done 👍
did you hear that? nah whats up? I think I heard something sounded like Adam was whispering to the ling...naah he was speaking dungy today yo! great job!
i'm so envious of that new kayak and wish I didn't have concerns of my balance at this point, maybe in a year or so...I really like how well you make use of it with adding the crab traps. You guys must eat so healthy and well. Your fishing alone must worth almost a couple grand a month at Bay Area prices. And it is all fresh...I hope you never tire or it you seem so happy doing it.
I'm not sure how I missed this video but it's now Sep. of 22 and I'm watching it. The crab season opens on Nov 5 and I have my gear ready to go. Plenty of snares on hand. I am thinking I may reline both my reels this season? Can't wait to taste crab again!! I went out a couple weeks ago and got the rock fish and my Lings. I do want to go out again soon for more!
I have to agree that Red Rock Crabs taste great, but they are so much more work! Where I live, that's nearly all I catch. But if I catch my limit (which here, is just 4) I can make something tasty for dinner the next night, or harvest and freeze the meat until I have a chance to catch a few more.
Wow, that ling was a survivor - that was giant hook that was stuck in there.. I guess that's proof that you should still release gut-hooked fish because it looks like they really can make it. I bet it was like, "if I can survive this, I can survive anything". And then it met Adam.
You’re damn right! Those lingcod are cannibals. I once caught an 18 pound lingcod out at the Farallons. I tossed it into the holding tank and it attacked a smaller lingcod that was already in there. It swallowed the other lingcod down to the tail right in the holding tank. Every time I show someone the pic they thinks it’s staged. Anyway, thanks for the videos! I live on the Oregon coast these days but I grew up fishing all those NorCal waters around the Bay Area. I miss going out of Fort Bragg and Half Moon Bay and Salt Point. But I have to admit the salmon fishing is way better up here. I can pluck chinook and coho from the river bank right by my house.
Last month I saw one big boat got its propeller entwined with crab pot rope in Tillamook Bay Oregon. The water was cold, he got in the water and tried to get the rope out for couple of hours, however his boat got stuck in the bay with the outgoing tide and it was getting dark around 5pm.
Just watched your most recent vid and then this one...the question is, did you recently give up coffee? 😃🤪😜😆 every time I see a new video in my stream tho I say oooh that’s a good one, that’s a good one!! 😉
Question on the cages, my understanding is that one whole side needs to be attached to a dissolving cord, not just the ring on the top of the cage. The door you put the bait through looks like you clipped it in with the metal tab and/or harness, locking it up. DFG mad a change for the opening and one side of the cage about 3 years ago.
I once was on charter boat in Northern California fishing for bottom fish, when a 15lb lingcod "hitchhiked" on one of my fish, and a deckhand gaffed it!
Dungeness? Interesting to me as I'm a Brit and that name refers to one of the largest expanses of shingle ( flint pebbles ) in Europe. Also famous for it's fishing too. 😉 I never knew of Dungeness crabs in America, you're never too old to learn something new. I'm also an angler, only found your video's in the last couple of days. Still watching!
I just discovered your channel last week and I am hooked!! Great content for those of us who love to fish. What size Autopilot 120 do you have? Thanks man and keep up the great content!!
Works while fishing or in the duck blind: get your food out and instant action. You have no idea how many sandwich bits I’ve had to blow out of a duck call. 😂
You did awesome dude! You've been a big part of inspiring me to get out there. I have been freshwater kayak fishing for a about a year and a half. But last year when i took my beginner yak on the ocean it didnt take long for me to realize i ought to upgrade 1st. So my new pedal drive kayak will arrive in like 4 weeks!
I'd guess the color is from something they're eating. You can do the same thing in aquariums with some fish, feed a white fish food heavy on krill, and it can start to turn pink.
That hook should have rusted out by now unless its stainless. Really an unusaly find. Very intersting. Great content again, very happy I suscribed keep it up.....
What is your lunch, looks delicious? I take out ramen noodles with 2 canned sardines dumped in and 2 beanie weenies on the side. Sometimes I bring a lemon and spices and have seviche or soy and wasabi and have sashimi.
Nice video Adam. A few questions: How do you know where to drop the trap? Are you looking for structures? How deep are you dropping them? I want to give it a try this year down here in the SoCal. Thanks.
Fishing outta Half Moon Bay? grew up in the City and learned to fish there with my dad. We crab on the jetties but havent taken him on a kayak yet. One day... The Lings turn blue when they feed on Octopus because of the ink.
blue lingcod; still a scientific quest (ion) "The cause of this rare turquoise color is due to a bile pigment called biliverdin, which is responsible for turning the blood serum of these fish that freakishly odd color - but how this pigment gets into the tissues and flesh of the fish, or why only some lingcod turn this striking shade, still leaves biologists puzzled."
Sorry guys! Forgot to add the link to the bait tank to the description, here it is: baitshark.com?aff=5
When I saw you whip out the Tupperware, I was like “Aww he’s about to get bit” hahaha
Heck yeah! Every time...
Drinking game: take a shot for every time Adam says “That's a good one”!
After the third one I turned it off
Shoot I would pass out!🤣🤣🤣
heck or "...I'm On!!..." after saying he was ready to leave. It's scary uncanny and fun to watch.

I wonder if consuming cephalopods that contain ink may account for some of it
whats even more strange is the meat cooks to normal color no matter how blue the meat is

Any size! lol
I just try to match the size of my bait.

Thank you for continuously posting great content. Hopefully I’ll run into you on the water someday!
I just attach a crab gauge to each of my pots with a carabiner. that way I never forget it lol
When you say ling I sing! I'm east coast and they have made the bucket list. P.S, I have the same kayak and recently had a problem with the Minn Kota. Old Towne customer service is great and replaced it within a week. The remote will tell you. Nicely done 👍

WOW Bro! What a day!!! That's one of my dreams to Double or Trippel Limits

If you hook a rock fish remember to fight it slooow, you can often get a big ling hitchhiker that way.
That happens a lot they won’t actually be hooked they will just go straight pitbull
Wow that kayak looks smooth on that motor
Great day of catching!😄😄👍

Crazy about that hook, probably happens a lot, just really interesting to see it! Nice job man!

Last year on a charter here i hooked a canary rockfish and had a 20.pd ling holding on that we netted so it was pretty awesome charter
Awesome limit Adam 👍🏽 you kno you gotta reuse dat hook haha might be your lucky hook dis season 😁🤙🏽
I came from Fisherman's life channel, and I'm glad I did! Great content!

The crabs are named after Dungeness, Washington (lots of crabs there) which in turn was named after that same Dungeness in Kent.
@@jmikaika Ah ok.👍

Adam is slaying it!!!

Congratulations on attaining 2 limits. Ling look fun to catch, there aren't any Ling cod here in Florida.
North of point conception rockfish boat fishing opens April 1st.
What a great day. 2 lmits so good! I love your videos even if you don't catch anything! Ha
Awesome videos man! U deserve way more subscriptions. Quality content
Awesome double up Adam keep the videos coming 👍
Great haul for damn near end of the season

Sweet day Adam! Happy 2021!
How does this man not have more subscribers? Great video!
I appreciate that!
Adam, do you troll the sabiki for jack smelt, or are you vertical jigging? If you're trolling it, how much weight do you use and how far back? Thanks.
I miss your salmon pole with the shimano calcutta reel. The lucky set-up..
Good job buddy 👏
Nice!!! I was out there the same day, limit on ling, but not a single crab. I thought you would be chasing chrome in Santa Cruz instead.

Awesome catches. Enjoy the good food. Where ya end up fishing by?
I would like to see you do a cook on some Crabs and lingcod I know you got good recipes
Great video what setup rod and reel were you using?thank you love the content!
Nice video Adam. A few questions: How do you know where to drop the trap? Are you looking for structures? How deep are you dropping them? I want to give it a try this year down here in the SoCal. Thanks.
Might want to do tad bit of poke poling for small monkey faced eel again for bait as if recall last time you did got slammed quick. Nice video btw-
I'm pretty sure you can use the shabiki with six hooks if you have no Rockfish or lingcod on your boat yet
Your channel is awesome. Great content.
Fishing outta Half Moon Bay? grew up in the City and learned to fish there with my dad. We crab on the jetties but havent taken him on a kayak yet. One day...
The Lings turn blue when they feed on Octopus because of the ink.
Where is Jun? he needs to catch one of those lings, Adam!
You and my friend are ling slayers
Always good stuff here...
Mmmmmmmyum. Gotta get out and get some!
Epic day of fishing👍
Hey Adam,
I didn’t see the description name of the floating bait holder tied onto your old town
Love your videos bro. You should invest in a small boat like a bay runner so you can carry more stuff. Just my opinion.
Nice dinner
perfect ploop at 4:15
How do you launch that heavy kayak from the beach??? Isn’t it hard to manage in the surf?
Finish the fish pain with the hook damn

they turn blue because of the diets they have lings that are blue eat mainly shellfish! i use use muscles as bait for lingcods and green ling
Nice u killed it
Nice work . If you want to call it that . Looks as if the two ate well last night .
good content.... nice double limits
What do you hit on your finder to mark your traps?
MOB?
I thought to use rockfish as bait and part of your limit they needed to be at least 12inches?
DHF:"I dont know why the fish are blue, its not like theres anything blue down there"

Nice one bro!👌
Did you have to register that kayak as a boat because of the motor?
CF numbers are required on any boat in California that has a motor. (gas or electric)
hey can you also upload cutting cleaning and cooking ?
