- This is hands down the best way to catch Striped Bass, or really any fish for that matter. I couldn't find a link for the exact topwater I used in this video but shootout to Catch Co. for supplying me with this bait. I received in in one of the monthly subscription boxes.

I'm 66,this was every day fishing in San Francisco bay in the 60s 70s but the fish were 10- 30 pounders, one night I got 45 bass in four hours on top water, this year in 25 trips in the bay five bass ,catch and release only thing that's will save them, thanks!
Ys that's the problem everyone keeps everything they catch. My dad says the same thing, when he was a teenager he'd catch tons of striper and the average were 15 20 lbs.now it's hard to even catch a dink.
@@stanlee1857 water degradation due to human activity does worse than the keepers. But hyper keepers don't help for sure
All the dredging and manipulation of that body of water makes it hard for those fish to spawn back there
@@chrismartinez5163 I was in charge of the maintenance on alcatraz island from 1995-2018 it make me sick as a fisherman to watch the u.s army's corps of engineers dump mud from the mouth of San Pablo bay right next to alcatraz island ten times a day for up to three months, they had a ship that the bottom would open up and drop 150 dump trucks of mud in ten minutes! This been going on for forty years and more,in1990 so much mud was dumped at alcatraz, that just about no fish were landed that year, some bait shop went out of business! Thanks!
Looks like you boys need to come over to the east coast!
Normal Fisherperson: No bites, 0 fish
DieHardFishing: 20 bites, 15 fish, 10 keepers
Yup. That pretty much sums it up.
haha, sometimes its just your lucky day!
Yeah I have to do better lol 😆
He doesn't tell you that the video took 7 days to make! Ha ha
He puts in the time for sure
Top water is the bomb on any species. Great video.
It is Clifton Court. A local told me that he would catch his bait there (crappie) and the Stripers would go crazy for them. He said 40 lb+ . He would walk out to the end of those long concrete
rows. My son caught the biggest bluegill that I have ever seen with red worms next to the water inlets.
Topwater is addicting and exciting as it gets! Just a tip, when I get a blowup I slow my bait way down for a moment. Still walking the dog. Sometimes completely pause and a quick, twitch twitch twitch pause. Then go again. You will get a lot more hook ups from many species if you do that. They just exploded and missed. Gotta give them a chance to find it again…and expend a little less energy catching up than if it is still hauling ass across the water. Cheers 🍻
Thanks for the tips!
Good old Clifton, go down the trail past the cabins and there's everything, cats, bluegill, largemouth, stripes, blacks. Or head down delta road by the big pot farm
I knew it looked familiar
In 1988 I was fishing Frank's Tract and all trips were good but one evening, in about 30 minutes, we caught two 30lbers and one that would likely have hit 60lbs. The tail was hitting the floor and the lips were at my chest. It was huge and this is after a day of 50 fish+. Those were amazing trips.
Dude, i can watch topwater blowups all day. No doubt the most exciting way to catch striped bass. Super common for them to hit it once or twice before getting hooked, they keep following it though so i don't stop working the lure til i can visually confirm it isn't being followed. I fished that spot for the first time 3 years ago, a friend and i killed with 7" spooks and pencil poppers.
You can nail down the bike fishing set up. I've chased striped bass and bluefish in NYC along the beaches and in the bay on a bike for years. If you break down the rods right, and use cables to buffer graphite-to-steel or aluminum contact, then road bike inner tube segments stretch perfectly to secure even heavy surf rods for serious riding. Some prefer bungee cords, same effect.
Hey Die Hard, that looks like Clifton Court Forebay! Anyways, nice fishing trip, love the content!
Has to be... never thought there was much in there to catch....
@@ChasMtz420 ive caught a 50 inch stripe bass there.. lol during winter its elbow to elbow
Sweet, whopper striper huh? I have been there a few times but only caught mostly shakers, hooked on to a really big fish, probably a kitty but he broke me off.
It definitely is, red white pencil poppers do the truck
Yea was thinking the same
Thanks Adam, I knew you couldn't resist the striper experience when they explode! Although our ocean run fish in Virginia run large, 20 plus. But we don't have the ling either.
Yes I would love to go fishing for these guys on the east coast!
I know exactly we're your fishing at. Clifftin court forebay Byron,ca. That's we're I grew up in the small town of Byron. I live in Oregon now.. I used to catch stripers all the time over there. Fishing is best when the gates are open and the water is moving.
Man this makes me want to go back home to Sac and sit on the river for a few days. Love the delta.
Striper fishing has ruined me for any other species and types of fishing, I've fished New England, NorCal, and the big lakes here in Oklahoma for Linesides. The fall Striper topwater bite is addictive! Always carry a original 6" Cotton Cordell pencil popper in in red head and white body, Ive had em hit and miss it and knock it two feet in the air! Talk about getting your blood pressure up! So much fun!
Its addicting for sure!
NGL. I was getting bored when you were constantly using your electric kayak to get salt water fish. I like the switch up of scenery and trying new fishing techniques. Thanks!!!
Try some Zoom Super Flukes in Albino color. A versatile bait that we throw a lot for delta stripers. Work just underneath the surface occasionally breaking the surface. The fish will let you know how fast you should retrieve it.
Thanks for the tip!
AND you avoid the hassle of dealing with Treble hooks
Great video brought back a lot of good memories.
Sounds like brand new braid 😆
Great video. I used to fish that place almost 15 years ago and never went back. Now that I'm out of state, I have to hit a lake near me that has big stripers and surface action is a blast.
Whats that place called here
@@mryaj0095 clifton forebay
You should!
Lube that line roller or upgrade and get a bearing, that noise is killer
Nice day, looks like fun. Those trebles are gonna get you someday. Tight lines.
Unfortunately, you are probably correct
@@DieHardFishing I hope not, but it happens.
Its weird to see you wearing socks and shoes! lol....Great video Adam! Really loving how you're mixing up your content.
It felt awkward to not have my toes exposed haha
Exciting to get hit on top water!🤙
No doubt!
Good spot. Use to fish that place when I was a kid. Have to take a ride out there. Still looks the same.
You should!
Love your videos. I do wish CDFG would remove the size and keep limits on Stripers. Non native fish that eat more salmon and delta Smelt than the fishery can handle.
Nice , 💪🏾 you in my backyard it's been a lot of hit a miss days for us.
There is salmon in there also. My dad caught a lot of salmon out of there. The fish get trapped when they go in there.
Threw my top water lures all summer in my creek this year cast after cast and no rock wanted play ! Huck
There’s giants in there. The entire area is only 8-10 feet deep except by the gates. Jerkbaits work well there too.
Oh yeah. The bike helps a lot 😂🤣
Were does one park if one was to go fishing there
@@lazyyan2918 go past Lazy M Marina and you’ll see it. Good luck
I'll have to go back for the big one!
Another tip. Live giant minnows under a floating balloon at those gates can be epic. Let the current take the balloon way out there. Or a bluegill 🤫
Love the videos man but the arm blocking camera lately during retrieves is tough to watch. Go for a head or a mouth cam or position the chest cam at an angle or height that takes the full arm out of frame.
Nice fishing on those stripers though!
Noted! Working on a solution for the next vid!
@@DieHardFishing you da man!
Man top water striper is about as fun as it gets. Once at the antioch pier I has there casting and was landing not even joking about 8-10 straight. All small ones and when I was about to leave I dropped it straight down and hooked up a nice 26" all on a little ul set up I use for bluegill and other small fish. Man I miss the delta
Sounds fun!!!
Wow the delta? Welcome 🙏
There is actually fair number of hidden tracts and canals in the lower Delta from Flood years each with striped bass trapped in these zones. Takes some exploration and of course research to make sure its public land and fishable but the payoff is huge striped bass which never see anglers due to their out of the way location. Grizzly island Wildlife area above Suisun bay and Montezuma slough is a an example. Some of these areas require access by water such as a kayak others by land just be careful as sink holes with soft mud can be dangerous
What’s up dude! Nice to see you at Clifton. I grew up 10 min from there. Great video, cool seeing that sturgeon. I’ve seen them pulled out just on night crawlers. I’ve got a video on my channel of 30+ lb striper being pulled out when they open the gates, pretty awesome stuff. Lmk if you’re interested
Thanks for another great video! What does a striper hit feel like and how do you tell the hit from a snag?
Stripers are always aggressive when the striper hits it feels like a big bump or 2 to getting snagged on something only feels like reeling into the snag you should, feel a difference
they slam it especially topwater its nuts ive had fish grab topwater and instantly u just see a pop and suddenly perling drag
I am new to the channel - but am interested as to why you now have the old town kayak ? You owned a Hobie before - what did you like or dislike about the hobie ?
A review on you kayak set up be nice to see !
Hey Diehard ,
I appreciate ur joy & effort into Fishing ( From land or Kayak or Anywhere ) ,, Ur a True Angler Dude : Look up & Hook up w Jansen Fishing in Cabo Surf w Big Hard Plastik Plugs ( Tops , Gliders , Slow Sinkers , Big Spoons will work Anywhere Too ) - I know U & ur Buds Will Have A Blast Down There From Da Bay Area Down Baja To Cabo - Letz Go Dude - Letz Getem ! 🐟🦅🇺🇸🤙✨
Good job buddy
You should come out to Discovery Bay, park near the marina and walk the leves......
Awesome fishing & catch..
Lmao😂 chasing the strippers...
Great vid. Nice change up.
Looks like Clifton Court or Bethany?
nice bike and bites!! the new B n B!!
Are you at Byron damn or Clifton court, looks like it to me. I’ve took my bike to the damn before but I get super tired coming back,
Might be time to lube the reel? Sounds kinda scratchy. Love top water fishing in the delta. Gotta watch out, though. Had an Owl Harbor mallard grab a top water lure once. They will rearrange the contents of your boat!
Well now you’ve gotta do a bay sturgeon video too! That was awesome
For sure!!
13:19. Oh yeah. 🎣
You should come out to some foothill reservoirs for some nice striper on your yak!
Should take your kayak out to the flooded Islands in the delta morning and evenings
Awesome day 😎
Clifton court foreBay Hooked up salmon striper and Sturgeon out there
This must look epic from a drone view
Agreed!
Top water is awesome 😎
That was a sic video! You did well from the shore in the Cali Delta! Those were some nice fish! Thanks for the vlog, Adam!
Thanks for watching!
I know this is late comment but I was just there a couple days ago and everything that you said is completely right during the summer it gets hot no shade or anything but during the fall once it starts cooling down the action is unstoppable I highly recommend going during the fall in Clifton Court
Thank u
Love your videos bro....
I caught my first stripped bass the other day. It’s a fun fish! They are aggressive. Are they good eating?
They can be if you bleed them right away. Try to keep only the fish between 20"-26". Too big and the accumulated toxin count is to high for my liking. I grill mine with some butter and some old bay seasoning.
Yes they can be good! I have found that they are much cleaner and better eating when caught in the surf
@@DieHardFishing Is there a difference between freshwater and saltwater fish? The stripers i’ve been catching are freshwater. I’ve been releasing them because I didn’t know if they were good eaters
Very good fish to eat.
Pound for pound, what Bass fights hardest? WSB, Calico, stripper, large mouth ?
WSB
or possibly Calico
@@DieHardFishing I agree!!! Calicos are more commonly caught and definitely fight harder than LMB but I’ve never caught a WSB!!! Hopefully I find out soon!
Use live bluegills and you will limit quick... The keepers are deeper by the pumps...
Nice fish
18 inch keepers wow . Where i come from they have to be 28 - 35 i struggle to find keepers lol
Stop hating…a fish is a fish..come to the delta
Nonstop! Great work Adam. Which reel are you using here?
Daiwa BG, prob 4000 size. One of the best salt reels for ~$100
Yep ^
@@DieHardFishing gotcha, thanks! 🤙
@@OffTheHookFishing gotcha, thanks! 🤙
Launch the 'yak on the Delta. Plenty of action to be had. You know where...
Nice fishing. Which part of Delta is this???? Nice place
Will this work in a big river? I haven’t tried it but I really want to.
excellent
I have the same reel its a 2500...first day I bought it I caught a 35" butterfly ray and it was a lot for the reel to handle but it did! My question, it made the same sound your reel is making, that creaking, I'm guessing your setup was undergunned for the lure you threw? I was undergunned for that fish that worked me for 15 minutes lol
Very nice! I think mine just needs a good cleaning/greasing lol
Look into smack it Jr poppers you will like the results
What rod are you using? Looks like you getting some hang time on that thing lol 🎣
What rod and reel are you using here
Those are good size in the banks, hope you cast on the sturgeon. It looks like you are the only one fishing is that a secret spot?
Clifton court forebay I believe, in Byron
What made you think the fish where suspended 5 -10 feet up from the bottom? Was there a hint in the water flow or color of the water?
Because I saw them hitting the surface
Very nice
Love it man, great fishing .
not much better strikes than stopwater!
When the water flowing use a balloon and a fluke
West gate?
hey body wer in delta that place
Where is this place, looks like a nice peaceful place to fish.
It looks like Tracy.
What lures were you using
This is how I catch Bonita in the summer in so cal too, they can’t resist the jerk bait on a quick retrieve
That sounds amazing!
What rod and reel are you using ?
You've been missing out if you've never caught striper on top water. My pb is 26lbs. On a pencil popper.
What do you mean top water
@@joelorozco5932 floating top water lures.
What kind of rod you using?
Need to slow down on the retrieve. Way too fast. Especially if they're feeding and boiling. But a very nice video btw.
Vallejo?
Where is he at yall? Im tired of skunking :///
What’re the specs on that rod?
And yes salmon get pumped into that lake it's guaranteed death and the seals will be all over them. And they still haven't put any screens to save the salmon.
what spot is that?
Is this in the suisun area or antioch?
Tracy area... Clifton Court Forebay...
Check out slayed skunk fishing
What area is this ? I live next to delta and never seen this!
Clifton Court Forebay near Tracy...
Catch us a sturgeon dude
Great fishing but bad camera angle
feels like im watching an episode of cops
There are salmon in there also. But you cant keep them there . Bring a bike next time that's how I hit it.
Pencil popper
Must be old video cuz the weather these days don't look like that there.
