I ordered 13 hurricane shield windows via Lowes. My wife and I installed the small ones. But the bigger ones are heavy. To reduce the weight, I want to remove the moving sash, but I can't find a latch or something that allows me to do so. I called Pella and was transferred to an agent from the service department. She insisted on giving her the Lowes sales number so that she can identify the exact window before she can help. Anyway long story short, I don't think she is knowledgeable. I will call again, maybe I get a more knowledgeable person.

Sorry you had that experience. I'm not sure if you were calling in to North Carolina or a different branch, but... it MIGHT be their policy to ask for the number. In any case, let me try answering what you got going on here. For the Hurricane Shield windows I would recommend watching this video: ruclips.net/video/l3baQVqqxrE/видео.htmlsi=8OoSaZTQhSqhzrTI
You're going to need to tilt the sash down to 90 degrees, and then lift one side to pop it out, and then do the same for the other side to get it out of the balance. There won't be a latch, just a notch you'll have to look out for. I would also recommend caution as, I'm sure you've noticed, these can be really heavy, so definitely a two person job.
Let us know if that video helps you more. Thanks for the comment!

I have been trying to get a hold of knowledgeable Pella person, which proved to be hard. I have about 50 Designer Series windows. About 10 or so have rotten bottom rail. Seal between the aluminum clad and the glass broken and over the years has completely rotten the bottom rail wood. Local Pella sales people say they retired the Designer Series so they won't give me just sashes. I firmly believe it's possible to get it. How can you help me to get Designer series casement sashes? Please help.

So, the answer isn't a resounding YES, but I do think a sash replacement for Designer series casement windows is possible. There are some size limitations as the Designer series IS phased out, but I think it can be done. If you're here in North Carolina we can certainly walk you through it, but -- and here's the longer answer -- it likely won't cost much more just to do a full frame replacement. If the bottom sill has rotted out, replacing a sash likely isn't the BEST answer. It can be an answer, but combined with getting Designer in at the right size, there might be other options to explore.
Definitely understand the frustration you're having and we definitely don't want to add to it. There's a best solution forward and we'd love to help you find it.

@@pellanorthcarolina Thank you very much for your response. That's very kind of you. You made me happy with your positive answer. My sills are in a good shape, it's the sashes that have rotten. Particularly, the bottom rail behind the aluminum clad. I live in the Boston area and have a stucco exterior. Replacing the entire frame, rather than sashes only, would be costly as stucco has a tendency to form a web of cracks when cutting them back. So, I am convinced my best option is to go with sash replacements. How can I get in touch with you? Happy to fly you in to Boston, all expenses covered. I really want to do sash replacement and some windows need replacing. Having a few young kids makes it a priority, too. Thank you.

@@beglight Willing to fly us out? Wow! Well, that's extremely generous. Thank you for the enthusiasm but I'm sure the local Pella branch would take care of your needs.
And you're right, stucco replacements can be tricky but can certainly be done, but from the sound of it I think you're positive the damage is limited to just the sash. That's a relief. My advice is to call the local Pella branch and set up a service consultation, where they come out and measure the sashes that need to be replaced and to see if they can get them ordered. I think that would probably be your best bet. Going the replacement route sounds like more of a headache than what you're looking for is my guess.
Let us know if we can help!

@@pellanorthcarolina Thank you, Brian. That was the first thing I did -- to contact the local Pella branch. When I explained my situation, I got connected with a sales rep. He came over, analyzed and wanted me to buy a whole new set of windows. That was pretty much the only way he could help. I then talked with a builder friend of mine, who bought many Pella windows through another sales rep. This second Pella gentleman is nice but very hard to get a hold of. Emailing him, calling or texting him would result in no response. I am also aware, he's a health condition and is receiving treatment. I would like to be mindful of that and I totally understand. Through my research, it looks like getting Designer series sashes are possible and it's just that I needed to find the right person, who is knowledgeable. To me, it looks like you're that right person. If we could please connect, I can show you via video call my windows, sizes etc. (I think I have close to 70 windows, depending on how one counts). That would be such a help if you could please help me on this. As a side note, to protect my windows, I have covered them with 3M winterization kit (ie, nylon cover) from outside. Took me a week. Aesthetically not so much pleasing, but I need to make sure there is no further rot on the bottom rail wood.

@@beglight Oh gosh. Well there are definitely things we would recommend before sending our service techs across the country! But I hear you, and recognize this is indeed a big priority for you. And we agree especially with winter setting in. I certainly hope your contact gets the medicine and treatment they need to get better. Best wishes to them.

Can’t believe how much Pella charges for a replacement sash. Quoted over $600 online to replace one 32x16 sash. That’s twice as much as I payed for the new window a few yrs ago. Never buying Pella again.

Hey Zach, sorry to hear that. $600 sounds high from our side but I don't know exactly what's going into the window, assuming it's a Lifestyle. Quoting online can be tricky. I would recommend calling the local branch up directly and getting a rep on the phone as I would imagine they can get you what you need.
Happy to help in any way that we can and of course I hope we can turn the story around. Online quoting isn't our preferred way to go.
