Don't worry about the nay Sayers. You did the best you could and the vet had the same opinion. You are a good shepherd of your herd. Your cows are lucky to have you. Sorry for you loss.
I'm sorry for your loss it evident you did your best your heart was in it I say every baby that is doesn't come out with a n instruction Manuel so hard not to love or want any baby of any kind I feel for you heartbreaking but that's life sometimes
Dude you are making better people and farmers out of every single person that subscribes. Let that be a testimony to you as a farmer and good person. I thank you for what you are doing.
Farmer to Farmer, you did the right thing, not what you wanted to do but what was the right thing to do for the animal. Never mind any negative comments, those people have never been there......
@James Morrison “how do you know what most farmers would do?” The same way a doctor, knows what most doctors would do. The same way a trucker, knows what most truckers would do. The same way a cop, knows what most cops would do. When you’re in a job for while you learn what the common-practices are for that job.
Farmers have an abundance of common sense. Common sense is to do what’s best for all. RUclipsrs are influenced by their audience, sometimes to their detriment.
You did the right thing. You know your animals, you know what's normal and what's not. No rancher wants to make the hard decision to do this. But in the end you did what was best for the calf.
This the reality of farm life. You can't save every animal that has major problems. People who don't to this for a living need to understand this. You gave the little guy every chance to come around. Life goes on, in nature and farms.
I have a friend who's father was a Veterinarian. One night when one of her daughter's horses was deathly sick, she guided her adult daughter through the process. Younger people try harder and longer as hindsight is 20/20 and she was learning. My friend quoted her Veterinarian Dad saying "when you take on the responsibility for the life of an animal, you take on the responsibility for it's death." It was apparent that night that she was guiding her daughter to make the choice for 'her' horse. She ended up giving her horse the 'Last Act of Kindness' and it was necessary. It's the hardest decision we have to make in our life.❤️
TX rancher here. We lost a calf who just wasn’t quite right after 9 months. He was keeping up but hie was just off. Herd didn’t take to him. Sadly not everything is in our hands. You did the right thing. Thank you for the update.
FTR - No apology is needed as far as I'm concerned. For crying out loud - at the end of the day these are farm animals being raised for food. You treat your animals very well, with kindness and compassion. You obviously love the work you do and work very hard and give it your all! But real life --- which so many are now shielded from and have no idea even what it is --- is often cruel, unfair, and filled with tough decisions. I remember the sage but tough advice my vet gave me about a problem dog I had. If you can't help the dog DON'T surrender him to a no-kill shelter. He said there is no such thing... they just pass off their hopeless cases to a kill shelter. You did everything you possibly could to help him!
Putting down a problem dog??? Problem as in doesn't listen, jumps, etc. I hope not something so fkn stupid. I can see if it had cancer. Also never get a dog to keep outside on a chain. I feel like u suck. U seem to be a problem but we can't put you down can we??? Shame!
For having Sweets in their name they seem pretty bitter. And unfortunately not every case can be helped for animals, no matter how much money and time you spend on them.
When I was young and my family had a farm, those issues came up a few times as well. So I understand this situation. May i say, thank you for thinking like you do.......putting yourself into the animal's "feet" while deciding what is best for the animal, is a thought process that some people never grasp. You did everything just as correct as anyone who runs a farm can. Thank you for your thought process and compassion in everything you do on your Farm. Very awesome content 😊💚😊
Regardless of the type of animal, quality of life is still important. No “slack” should be applied to anyone. It was a tough decision, Tyler did what could be done for the calf, and he made the tough decision based on the information that he had. My condolences for the calf, but it was the correct choice. These are decisions that farmers/ranchers have to make for their animals. Sometimes, the results are positive, but often the results aren’t what we had hoped for and we end up losing an animal. It is disappointing, but nothing in life is ever guaranteed. Thank you, Tyler…appreciated the update.
That took a lot out of you Tyler. Farming for you. I'm sorry about calf but it is part of life. You did more that most of us would. You made the right choice. 💔
Don’t let other people’s opinions that don’t understand raising animals is hard affect you. I was raised around cattle as a young child and learned from my uncle this very principle, not all animals make it, no matter what you do for them. Chin up and keep on moving forward!!!
As difficult as a situation like this is, it is sometimes the reality of raising livestock. No KNOWLEDGEABLE person can say you did not do your very best. I know this kind of situation is tough. God bless you for all of your efforts.
As far as I'm concerned, and probably anyone else who actually raises cattle, you did the right thing and took all the right steps before you came to this conclusion. Good on you Tyler. None of what you did here was easy.
Dear Farmer John, it's not easy to do what you had to do. I think you were compassionate towards the little guy. All of us regular watchers know how gentle and loving and caring you are for your animals. Feel good about yourself. I can't help feeling that that particular baby cow is thanking you for your compassion knowing my life as a cow sucks, I'll never produce or reproduce and I was born sick. Thanks for helping me by ending my tough life , it was tough to see, stand, eat, communicate and everything else a good cow should be , so again, I the sick, cow thank you for doing me right. God bless the people who love and raise our animals and you're the guy, Farmer John. God Bless You and Yours always and forever.
You did all that you could have done and the vet agreed - you are the farmer - we are viewers who most of us have never been on a farm in the first place - you did the right thing!!!!!!
I’m so sorry that this little one didn’t make it! I know that we were all pulling for him, but YOU know what’s best for him! It’s all about that animals quality of life. Great video, even though it’s a sad one! Your true supporters are here for you! 💗💗💗
No need to justify your decision Tyler. It's obvious to anyone who follows your channel that this was not something you took lightly, and that it has clearly upset you. You're a good man. I hope you have a joyous Easter Sunday.
I raise cattle and other farm animals and completely feel compassion for you and for the job you had to do. People on the outside will never understand, that doesn’t remove the fact that you did what you and the vet felt was best for this individual calf. Keep up the good work. We enjoy your content and honesty.
I think you shared this... and to be honest... it is something that some other channels might have chosen not to share.. you gave the little guy the best chance at life. Even at a sanctuary... he would have had very little if any quality of life. Don't beat yourself up. Your grandfather is looking down and so very proud of you. Keeping his farm and legacy alive.
I've only been a subscriber for a couple of months. My heart went out to you as you shared this journey you had with the blind calf. This video was a gift you gave us. I so appreciate and admire and respect you!
I rescued all my life, mostly dogs, also cats, birds, etc...the wild native ones went to a wildlife rehabber, anyone who does this knows that there are going to be some you just can't save! You just bent over backwards to help this poor baby, but he just never really had a chance, too many birth defects. Blind horses, and dogs, walk around just fine, so he must have had other mobility issues, and I have a little older dog who is blind, doesn't bother her a bit, runs all over, and her sense of smell is terrific. Absolutely you made the right decisions here! Don't worry about it, you do a great job!!
Tyler I am very sorry for your lost however you did the best for the calf, As I mentioned previously I am impressed by you I have a little farm 25 acres in Texas with cows,I was raised in Africa by my grandparents on a farm, you reminds me of my grandfather who worked everyday. I learned alot from you, you are such a wonderful teacher. You shouldn't even have to explain to anyone what went on with that calf but you did just because you cared. So if anyone will say something bad about this video please don't bother reading. Some of us knows the work you put in your ranch daily. It's just something you love doing it. Thank you for all what you do at your ranch and thanks to Mrs Tyler as well.
You did what any thoughtful rancher would do that looks out for the well-being of the herd. I grew up on a farm with many many farm/ranch animals. Thanks for the thoughtful update and logic that supports your actions. Love following your activities and the decision to go full time on the ranch. Keep up the good work moving forward!
Very well said Tylor…tough decision that needed to be done when it needed to happen. You did the right thing! Thank you for sharing and the update ! ❤️
.. It's your bat, your ball, your ranch.... you did everything your experience and heart allowed you to do..... you consulted expertise... and made the call. No one ever said this thing call life was all sunshine and rainbows....
Sorry to hear it ended this way, you always had the best interest of the calf as the priority…… you have a lot of support, thank you for sharing the story…
You did what you thought was best for the animal. You tried and did your best effort. Appreciate your honestly. Sadly it’s nature and real life. Thanks for all you do
We support you. Your a good man and given the circumstances we would have done the same. This was a well done video and shows a great deal of humanity on your part. Thank you for wanting to even share this experience with us.
Tyler: we feel what you did was the correct thing to do. To keep this poor calf alive & not be able to really be able to function properly would have been inhumane. Once again you did the right thing. We are new to your channel...keep up the good work. We look forward to seeing more of your programs. The Miller's ❤
You did the right thing and you went far beyond caring for this calf . Yes lot of people may think differently . But in the end it's about quality of life for the animal . Really enjoy your videos thank you for sharing !
hello, you did more for this calf then alot of farmers would of done, dont beat your self up, God bless you for being kind , If people only had this choice from suffering it would me a wonderful place, being a nurse believe me I have seen alot of suffering, rest in peace lil calf ,hugs
It's the hardest job on a farm. I know that many others will not understand how farmers/ranchers can love their animals but still euthanize them. You tried your best and gave him a chance and that was more than what nature would have done for him. He lived 2 months longer because you tried. And that is a good thing! If you wouldn't have tried you never would have known if he had a chance or not. Hard decision, and I know that first hand. Keep being a good rancher.
Its the sad part of farming, but you did the right thing. You gave it a chance. You going to have people don't know anything about farm life disagree with your decision, but they don't see or have clue as to hard these decisions are. Especially on a small scale farm operation. Good luck with your farm and may God bless you and your family.
Sorry you lost your calf. He was sure cute. You did the best you could have done. Thanks for the update. …….sure like those gates you made.. see ya next week…
Tyler , Mike at our Wyoming life just went thru a similar concern for a calf , first born , you did everything that you could , very proud of the hours & care that you did , stay safe .
You did all you could and more. You did what was right for the calf. I know it's hard to do. I think I would have done it sooner. Thank you for sharing.
You were always compassionate and invested in the well being of this creature - thanks for your ultimate effort and for bringing us along on the emotions of living farm life. As someone who lives in a big city, we really don't know the challenges and difficult decisions of farmers. Thanks, Tyler.
Poor little calf. You did the best you could for him and with his quality of life being so poor, you did the right thing for him. He wouldn’t have survived at all if you didn’t step in and you did all you could. Thank you for trying and for everything you did for him.
I would have to agree with your conclusion in every respect Tyler. Especially on a small family farm that has to generate income to survive. Any animal that demands an inordinate amount of time to care for and too many resources cannot be justified. The viewers knee jerk reaction to a less than desirable outcome really can't factor into the practicalities of running your farm. Sure it's sad but you are the executive in charge of your operation and the weight of those decisions doesn't rest on the viewers shoulders, it all lands on yours.
Many are quick to judge. They don't feel the pain in our hearts when we have to complete these extremely sad and tragic tasks. It took courage to do what you knew was necessary in the face of possible ridicule. I respect your quality Tyler!
Tyler I appreciate you including us in your life. Unfortunately these things happen in farming/ranching. If people don’t understand that too bad. You had to live it, your decision was based on what was the best for the calf. You have a great heart.
DIFFICULT AS IT WAS, YOU DID THE RIGHT THING. IT'S ONE OF THE UNPLEASANT, YET NECESSARY ISSUES A FARMER MUST FACE WHEN RAISING ANIMALS. YOUR WENT OVERBOARD IN CARING FOR THAT CALF !!! PLEASE KEEP UP THE GOOD VIDEOS WHICH ARE SO INFORMATIVE AND ENJOYABLE!!!
Sorry about the calf ☹️ From time to time we all have to make difficult decisions concerning our stock. It's a part of farming many people never see. I think you did an excellent job making this video, explaining the calfs symptoms and your thought process whilst caring for him. I my opinion you definitely made the right decision, best for the calf, what quantity of life did he have. Thank you for sharing
Tyler, I’ve always been impressed by how hard you work for all your animals. You fought so hard to give that little guy a life but as you said sometimes hard decisions have to be made. You’re a good man and thank you for your videos.
You did the right thing Tyler. It doesn't matter what we think. I watch many farming and ranching videos, and I expect situations like you experienced to occur. That is inevitable and is part of life, human and animal. You are obviously very compassionate, and do what is best for your animals. I thank you for that and look forward to all your postings.
Been watching your videos for long enough that I have no doubt whatsoever that your decisions, even the tough ones, will be the right ones. Thanks for the transparency.
I 110% support you and your decision. I was recently in a similar situation with a dairy cow I took in with neglect issues. After doing everything I could, I had to make the same hard decision. It literally comes down to quality of life. We can only do our best, in some situations throw the kitchen sink at them (treatment and/or time) and when that doesn't work make the hard decisions. You did what you had to do for the calf. Prolonging life sometimes is just cruel. Could you have kept him alive? I absolutely say yes, at least for a while until his body gave out. Would it have been the best for him? No. Not even a little. You very obviously made the right call, as bad as it sucks. I wish we could save them all but there's this thing called "reality"...
Tyler you did what was best for him and you i hope people will try and understand that not every calf has a great outcome its part of life i wish you the best and dont be to hard on yourself thank you for the update
I respect your decision. You gave it months not minutes and it can’t be easier for you to make these difficult choices. Kudos to you for putting your emotions aside in favor of your animals.
My husband and I have a very small family ranch. Only 13 head. 3 new babies this week. All have names and are treated like part of the family. We enjoy it; even the sad days. As with you, our cattle have the very best life possible and could get no better care or attention. You did as much as we would have done and probably saved the little guy from a lot of future harm and pain. He had the best life possible. Chin up....We were happy to see you care so much.........We enjoy your videos so much. You always explain everything, even if it seems simple. That is how we learn. Now we are particularly interested in feeding out a couple of steers....How to do it.....How big are they now....How long to feed....What to feed....How big when processed......As much as we can learn..We would appreciate a video like that some day.........And weaning.......And how to tell when getting close to birthing.....Shots...Fly control.....And just about everything.......... Thank you again for caring...... Dan & Kathy in Tennessee
Wow! What a tough video to have to do, but I appreciate you talking about everything that went on. As you said you simply cannot see everything that’s going on in the few seconds to a few minutes in a video. I have always believed in doing what’s best for the animal must come first. Whether that animal is a beloved dog in pain with cancer to this calf. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU. It’s very difficult 😞 by necessary in having healthy livestock. You just cannot run a healthy ranch/business by emotion. It’s got to be what is good for all the animals on your farm, what’s best for you and your family as well. So, I wish you and your family the best and let’s move on from here. 🙂 May the Lord bless you.
This is your channel and what you reveal is up to you. I enjoy watching because, I always learn something. I have no animals to care for and will never weld a fence, but have an insatiable urge to learn about the world and you have a gift for teaching.
Without a doubt you did the right thing with the disabled calf. I spent my younger years growing up on my parents' and grandparents' farms in Kansas and losing an animal for any reason is painful. Ignore those who have and will write negative comments. You said it well when you talked about you living the experience that no one watching an edited vlog could possibly know. I feel like you gave the calf a lot longer chance than many other ranchers would have. You've got both my sorrow and my respect. My husband and I both enjoy your vlogs. Keep on farming and ranching and sharing.
You are clearly a kind and thoughtful person. Growing up on a farm, I understand 1) the energy and effort you put into sustaining his life and 2) the decision you made. Best wishes to you. ❤️
Your effort in helping this calf was humane and compassionate. That is very admirable . After putting him with the herd, it was clearly whether he'd acclaimate or not. His issues were too great and it is very sad so, you did the right thing. If his body was normal, but just his eyes weren't, there may have been some hope. Gratitude for giving us the heads up about the little guy. 👍🐄🤠
Tough situation for sure. I appreciate you showing us some of your process with him and sharing your thoughts and decision-making criteria....and by no means did you have to do that. Keep your head knowing that you gave him every opportunity you could on the ranch. I hope that you and the FTR family had a wonderful Easter holiday.
Thank you for all that you did to help the baby calf. You gave him the time to heal if that was possible and when it became clear that his quality of life would not come you did the BEST thing for him. Now he runs healthy happy and free in Gods kingdom. I’m sorry you had to make such a painful decision. But this event again just shows what a loving, gentle, caring man that you are. Thank you. Please don’t ever stop caring about Gods little creatures. You Tyler are my HERO!!!
Tyler, I can tell you that you did the right thing & know how hard that was. I recently faced the same situation and it tears me apart having to do these things. I had a little calf who couldn't walk and I found her struggling to get up, wet and cold. We wrapped her in blankets and got her warm and had to tube feed her as she had no desire to nurse. Spent over a week going out 5 times a day putting her on her feet and making her walk but in the end the most she could do on her own was stand jerking back and forth before falling. She also never developed a desire to nurse so several times a day it was tube feeding. Yes, it was a difficult thing to do but the right thing & still hurts.
You did the right thing for him. I watch your videos with my daughter and explain to her that sometime this is what needs to be done. Our cat is getting old and this helps because we will need to do the same thing for Sammy.
It was very evident from the beginning that the calf had issues other than blindness. You made great efforts to give him a chance ( I dare say more than some farmers would have) … You made an informed decision in consultation with the vet, and it was a humane one. You are to be commended for your courage to share the realities of tough decisions that farmers and ranchers encounter in their daily operations. Take care and stay well and safe! Sending Easter greetings from Canada🇨🇦
Don't worry about the nay Sayers. You did the best you could and the vet had the same opinion. You are a good shepherd of your herd. Your cows are lucky to have you. Sorry for you loss.
I could not have said this any better so I won’t try. I’m sorry you lost that little calf. Kathy
I'm sorry for your loss it evident you did your best your heart was in it I say every baby that is doesn't come out with a n instruction Manuel so hard not to love or want any baby of any kind I feel for you heartbreaking but that's life sometimes
Don't beat yourself up and hard as it was I agree with you

Okay

Not every ranch story ends with balloons and flowers. Good update.
You did the right thing. You know your animals, you know what's normal and what's not. No rancher wants to make the hard decision to do this. But in the end you did what was best for the calf.

You made the HUMANE decision. And that’s the only one that counts on YOUR ranch. So sorry for your loss ♥️🇨🇦♥️
You did what the vet suggested and most of us would have done the same! It was nice to have you again on a Saturday!
Sorry to hear but happy you made the right decision. You show how much your truly CARE for these animals and you run that ranch the correct way!
You went above and beyond trying to help this calf. In the end, you did the right thing.
I'm sorry for your loss, Tyler. Thank you for trying to help the calf, and for not letting him suffer anymore.

@@aprilsweet8880 Actually, i never had the dog put down. Too bad it was so long ago. I could have sent him to you! In your perfect world...
For having Sweets in their name they seem pretty bitter. And unfortunately not every case can be helped for animals, no matter how much money and time you spend on them.
I'm so sorry you had to experience this. Farming can be brutal for sure. You did the best anyone could have. RIP Lil' Blind Calf. 😥
I haven’t finished watching your video yet, but I had to stop to say you did the best you could for an animal born with life-altering issues.
This comment is right you did what was right

You were so generous with your perseverance with this calf! Your choice in the end was a responsible and respectful thing to do!
I’m a rancher up in Canada and these are things we deal with, we say “ if you have live stock you have dead stock” it’s the nature of the game.

You did the best thing for the calf. His life would not ever be normal and would always take a toll on him. Great for you putting him first,
I agree with you. I appreciate your unvarnished look at the realities of ranching.
You done good, FT. Your critics are projecting their own pain onto you. Don’t absorb it; let it roll off like the rain we used to get out here. ❤️

So if anyone will say something bad about this video please don't bother reading. Some of us knows the work you put in your ranch daily. It's just something you love doing it. Thank you for all what you do at your ranch and thanks to Mrs Tyler as well.
Bless you Tyler for doing all you could for the little calf. Thanks for the update.
Thanks for all you do
You did everything you could do for that calf! Thanks for the update and looking forward to many more of your videos!
u are thoughtful and clearly, you did what you could. u lived this! thank you for sharing your story. Moving forward…
We support you. Your a good man and given the circumstances we would have done the same. This was a well done video and shows a great deal of humanity on your part. Thank you for wanting to even share this experience with us.
Sorry to hear about the loss of the calf. But I think you did do the right thing. Have a great Easter tomorrow.
😢I think you did an awesome job for the calf. I love how much you care for your farm and animals. …wishing you a prosperous year.
So sorry it ended this way, but I admire you for doing as much as you did.
You are as wonderful as it gets. These things happen and you put the animal first and put your sorrow secondary. More breeders need to watch this. ❤️
I'm really sorry about your calf it's clear you care about them. I have much respect for farmers since finding your account.
I agree 100% with your decisions and compassionate handling of the calf. Thanks for sharing.
I think your judgement and decision was fair and, though difficult, the right one. The care you always give your animals is exemplary.
Sorry about the calf ☹️
From time to time we all have to make difficult decisions concerning our stock. It's a part of farming many people never see. I think you did an excellent job making this video, explaining the calfs symptoms and your thought process whilst caring for him. I my opinion you definitely made the right decision, best for the calf, what quantity of life did he have.
Thank you for sharing
I appreciate you acually taking the time to try and help the baby.
Sorry to hear about the calf. I know you did all you could. Keep doing what you're doing you're a good farmer.
You are so compassionate. Enjoyed the story. I’ve had to do the same call from time to time. Never gets easy.
I respect your decision. You gave it months not minutes and it can’t be easier for you to make these difficult choices. Kudos to you for putting your emotions aside in favor of your animals.
Farm life is never easy you did. The right thing in the end
You did the right thing with the baby calf. Happy Easter to you and your family!
You tried and made the best decision for the calf. I can tell you care about your animals. Keep doing what you do FTR!
You handled the situation very well. You tried really hard but in the end you did what was best. God bless and keep up the good work.
You did the right thing for the calf and he is suffering no more. You tried your best and that’s all you could do. 👍🕊🙏🏻
I am sorry you went through this. We know you strive to do the best you can for your animals no matter what that means. Thank you for sharing.
You went way beyond what other farmers would have. You are a professional and you did great by that calf.
