    I’m done with Meater. I have a meater block and it’s never worked right, loses connection when I close the lid of my grill/oven door. I’ve spent more time troublehshooting with their customer service than I’ve been able to use it to cook. Just bought a fireboard after my meater let me down one last time on thanksgiving… hopefully I won’t be looking back.

    Okay Boss need advice, I trust your channel as much as anyone! Decided the Meater is going back, I love the idea of wireless but I love accuracy more and can deal with wires. Seems Thermoworks or Fireboard ate top two contenders? Signals from Thermoworks is one sale at 155, but no prob with Fireboard price. Offset cooking you know monitoring that ambient temp is key, other features are cool. If I know Meater is consistently and accurately say 50degrees low I can deal with that. But if its ambient is all over the place I cant. Please, your choice on best monitoring system! 🙌

    • @SmokeTrailsBBQ
      @SmokeTrailsBBQ  9 месяцев назад

      I personally use a signals because I can export temp data. Any wired probe, including cheaper ones like inkbird, work fine. the smaller thermocouple surface means they respond to temp changes faster. The meater and other remote probes work fine, there's just a bit of a lag in readings because the temperature sensing surface is so thick and slow to respond to changes in air temp. But for the purposes of fire management where you are just trying to target +/- 50 degrees of a target temp, they all work fine.

    • @jlpowell8432
      @jlpowell8432 9 месяцев назад

      @@SmokeTrailsBBQ I should mention I have a flame boss monitor so I can get a ambient probe (475F rated) and use in conjunction with meater. But that means two apps, not a huge deal but one be better. Also once I learn how far below the meaters ambients run Im good to go. But does it make sense to just get the signals as its on sale currently. Im still researching to see what or if the Fireboard does better. Im still learning my new pit so ambient is important. Anyways…

    I am one of the lucky weird ones who doesn’t really have any of the problems people talk about with my meter plus. I have been so happy with it for years that I wouldn’t really care about upgrading, except for the ambient temperature probe being able to handle higher temperatures. That might be enough for me to go ahead and do it.

    Okay so wife just gave me two pack of Meater Plus. I have full reign to return and get whatever. So whats the absolute best there is? Offset cook chamber is 1/4” thick. Ambient temp is most important to me, I cook by sight, fat render, probe feel mostly. Ill take internal temp monitoring sure. If wireless is just not as good as wired no prob Ill deal with it. So Fireboard, Thermpro, Meater 2.0 new one, or keep meater plus? Again I like to monitor ambient the most with the heat coming in on my custom offset.

      I haven't had that issue with the new one yet. It still needs to be relatively close though. E.g. on the door of the oven or next to the smoker. It also won't go through foil due to the faraday effect.

    Have a MEATER Plus and it has been great for 3+ years. Have been thinking about getting a second since for some multiple meat cooks, it would come in handy. Will the MEATER 2+ use the same app as the original so the data can be viewed from both at the same time?

  • @johanberghmans4088
    @johanberghmans4088 10 месяцев назад

    I have the meater plus as well as the block. The meater plus unfortunately got broken (must have overheated it to many times). I love both products. Used the meater plus together with a phone and tablet. And with the block you don't need a second device anymore. I live in an appartment and always had a good reception in my living room (my kamado is on my terrrace). One issue I do have with both though is that the signal is pretty bad in an oven-microwave combi - you need to hold the holder or block against the glass of the oven. Has the reception improved with this version 2.0? In other words - can I use it in an over without having to keep the block/holder against the oven?

  • @stevemarck2210
    @stevemarck2210 10 месяцев назад

    So will there be a meater 2 block (the 4 probe kit)? If I'm going to buy the thing, might as well get the whole set up instead of just one. Usually if I've gone to the effort of setting up the smoker, I've got a few different things on there. Right now I'm using a cheap wired one, and it's fine. A lot less money though. I have 4 probes that are all very accurate and the gizmo cost $60. I've heard good things, if they do a block for the improved version, and it's like $400 or something, is it worth it?

    In terms of range, I struggle with my meater block when using probes in the oven, to the point where I have to hang the block over the oven handle. Do you think the range through much denser objects (like an oven door) is improved?
