Wode Maya once spoke of your great works and impart on Africa which I listened to early this year, the reason I looked out for you and finally subscribed to your channel. I must confess that I really love how you poor out yourself just for us to learn from your success stories as well as your mistakes. I will encourage you to conduct some research into natural synchronization in breeding of animals. Looking forward to doing business with you. Keep the 🔥 blazing
Very impressed 👏🏼 You understand Farming in Africa, the challenges and opportunities. And the smile. The trees you mentioned fig and shea (ancestral and perennial) a are excellent for fencing. Also the Acacia, releasing natural nitrogen. Your plan your the goats are excellent, good animal husbandry. Any plans to open the farm for visits for students and earn extra income. Well done.
Good day Fred Thanks for sharing. I received a similar advice for my ranch in the Eastern part of Nigeria. The two trees am using is melina and the one called ogbu in my language I don't know the English word for it. They both grow very fast once you cut the branch and stick it on the ground and also as they grow, goats and cows enjoy the leaves and when they get bigger, you can cut part of them for lumber in a few years
It's a fig tree. The leafs usually don't fall off during the dry season like other trees do. Some put out sticky milky white liquid some blood red or burgundy liquid when cut. Down side is that they produce a lot of shade that kills vegetation and the leafs doesn't decompose to manure well. They also are a seasonal favorite for some large insect larvae(catapilers). But they are great for permanent traditional fencing. You have too close. Could have been about 4 meters apart but u can fix that after they all grow by sorting out the poorly growing stems.
There are many varieties. I use them on my ranch 10 meters apart with barbed wire and Solar powered Electric Fence. The electric fencing is actually my best tool because the cows learn not to venture the fencing after 3 electric shocks and will move away from a single rope that is not electrified for fear of the shock. Now I can sort them by just holding a white rope and directing them with it. I also can keep them in one small feeding paddock with these lines reducing the number of workers or the stress of running behind the animals to control where they are going. Best tool i ever bought. Can't have kids around electric fencing though. They won't stop crying after touching it 😭 😢
@@Gamma19245 The man said that he had spent money. You are recommending electric fence for him to execute his cow. What he has use was traditionally best until we get the name of tree. May be you are ajabota man.
This is so good, and I am happy to have found your channel. You are so right, fencing is expensive and I cannot afford doing the whole pole/wirefence style. Your ideas are great
You can use gliricidia/quick stick as well it's a very good source of protein in the goats diet as we usually about 18% crude protein. I use it in my fence the goats really love this tree fodder.
Thanks for this awesome video info. Kindly help us with the name of the tree. I don’t mind if you want to supply me the quantity that can fence about 50 acres of land. Delivery location is Afianya. Many thanks and keep up the great work.
Back in the days of my youth helping on my dad's farm, atoa tree was used for fencing posts. It grows and bears atoa fruits. Not sure if those still grow in Ghana.
Thanks for this very helpful video. I need some please. I have 20 hectares i need to fence. Please how can I get a hold of you. I am from Niger. Please respond back to me. This is the solution to my problem
I appreciate it, but without the name of "This tree", then this video is somewhat useless because it defeats the title of your video. You did a good job with the video, but without the name it is just simply a waste of time.

@@estherukaobasi7556 electric fence does not execute animals, if they get zapped one time, they quickly learn to stay away from it

Glad it was helpful!

I have 7 and I have no idea where to start. Hehe! Hopefully we get there someday.
We used jatropha (Abrotortor in Akan) in the past.
In Grenada we use glòry ceder for fencing poles as they regrow well.
That is great! Can you share some pictures with me on WhatsApp ?
Thanks much for the advise. What is the name of the tree 🌲 you plant around the farm.

Great ideas, thanks Fred. That must be the natal fig tree (Ficus natalensis)

Well done brother
Try moringa trees in-between these trees and you can harvest the leaves for the animals as well
For food yes but for fence it will not be strong enough
Thank you so much, I will have to use it here in Uganda

Bad idea The goat eats the leaves of the tree till it dies
The tree will grow out of reach and even if they eat the leave the try will not die.
