As a professional ice skater, you have good form for your first time. Don’t look down all the time because you’re essentially pushing your body forward and that gonna make you lose your balance and fall forward and this makes your confidence go down a bit when skating cuz you will constantly be afraid of falling. Either way you did AWESOME❤. Hope you had fun though 💗
that said I'm planning on getting back to ice s as batting and maybe give it more of a serious commitment. I'm just lookin forward to that first moment when i'll simply put your skates on and feel like it's insane to try and balance oneself on thin knife-like blades and how insecure i'll feel in the moment. But I'll try and trick my brain into thinking I got this and just just have to go in the rink naturally and skate. Pretend I haven't been out of it for a decade. I'll see how I fare 😂
As a figure skater your doing amazing for your first try when I first went ice skating when I was 8-9 I fell a lot and just sticked to the walls but now I have 94 medals and trophies together and I’m really proud of you that you was confident enough to fall and learn because back then I was also really embarrassed by myself and now seeing others getting better really makes me happy ;)
I went for my first ice skating trip with some colleagues the other day and I did exactly what you did, I gained some confidence and was able to skate on my own. One of my colleagues has been skating for years and told me that she was extremely impressed with the way I handled my first try and said a lot of people quit after either falling over or getting way too frustrated. I didn’t fall, but I did get frustrated, however I was persistent and motivated and, at the end, I was able to move around the rink on my own. I will definitely be going back again! ❤
You did great! Will you continue? I started taking lessons when I was about your age- it’s great to start as an adult because you breeze through the first few levels and you’re doing spins and jumps in no time. Definitely learning to skate was one of the most fun things I have ever learnt!
Taz actually did really well for her first time, My best advice for learners is definitely try inline skating first, i found its quite a good way to get the motion down and really helps with confidence as theres a little more traction which helps with balance, hope this helps
you did great! my first time ice skating i was alone and i kept falling over in front of people, so embarassing im never doing it again 😭 i would love to actually be good at it but i just can’t keep my balance
I'm looking forward to taking this up for fun in the New Year. We have a rink near us here in Catalonia, I think I'll be doing a lot of the barrier holding to start with. You did real good, well done.
Aww that’s so sweet!!!! Thank you for showing us!!!! I also reallyyyy would love to learn how to ice skate ⛸️ I just have no idea when I would find time to try 😂 but it’s definitely a goal I have too and I’m so glad you actually got to do it and learn so well!!!!!
I actually went ice skating late last year for the first time since I was a small child and I was so excited for it. Unfortunately, my ankles are very hypermobile and loose (I have EDS) and I fell over forwards 5 times in 15 minutes because my ankles were not strong enough to support me and they kept wanting to roll inwards and it became very painful to try and keep myself up to skate. Needless to say I was covered in bruises and I would've broken my knee if it weren't for the padded braces I was wearing. Shame, I love ice skating but now I know I can never participate in it again. :(
So excited for you , I have been really into ice skating for some time now but I don't think I will ever get to ice skate in this lifetime So I guess I will live vicariously through you 😜😂
That’s great my first time I started learning was early this year and I had some time before my class so I went onto the ice and just skated immediately
You did actually pretty good for a first timer. Here’s the thing. As a basic two or three figure skater (no judging I’m only a twelve year old girl who wants to be a good skater) you’re constantly looking down. Always look up. It helps with your confidence and also looking essentially pushes your body forward making you more at risk to fall. Also when skating I would start by turning the inside of your feet out and the push with that to get momentum. But great job! Keep working on it and then you won’t have to stick with wall!
i went to the same ice rink yesterday!! there was a part further down where there are no rails or anything to hold on to but a slim slim wooden bar and just wall which is where i challenged myself to skate by myself. i fell in the first two minutes lets gooo 🎉🎉
She was right about the hire skates some people (mostly figure skaters and ppl who ice skate) find it really hard to skate in them. If you want to start skate or go lessons I recommend buying some. Maybe if your only just getting used to it dont buy professional figure skates because u have to make them very tight and I think if u just started it would be too tight for your feet. You should get ones that help u practice getting faster in spins, and just better.
I love to ice skate and when u ice skate try leaning forward and NEVER lean back. U will still fall but it has less chances. U can try putting ur hands out for balance ❤
I got my very first figure skates a few days ago, before then, i was using rental skates and somehow was pretty good with them. I could do 1 rotation 2 foot spins😂 It's def alot easier with proper skates tho❤
I swear I went to the same place before and due to my very bad luck, the ice regulator thingy was broken so I was skating in a swimming pool😭 , although if you like boba , there’s a shop across the bar -10/10 I reccomend it 😂
The ice is usually rougher on the outsides close to the boards so you’ll find it easier if you skate more towards the middle. Try for longer strides as well once your balance is better.
Don’t look down, cause your trying to be perfect in your own eyes when your just learning. Don’t move your arms a lot while skating makes your balance off and don’t be scared to fall
So here’s a tip When you are ice-skating, don’t push forward or backwards push to the side and don’t go on your rockers, which is near the toe pick stay towards the back of your skate because that’s for gliding and to start off. I think you should start marching and then work your way to pushing out.
I just started a year ago and really haven’t gone enough to call it a year skating. I haven’t been in a few months. I got the basics down. Still not brave enough to do crossovers. I’m 50 years old and when I fall everything hurts.
Buy butt pads, wait a few months and try again, this time learn to fall correctly, or bend ur body forward and bend ur knees and put ur hands on ur knees, this will stabilise you. Trust me, same thing happened to me. Don’t give up

This is what i felt when i tried rollerblading for the first time but unlike taz i didn't get it in the first place though

Well done, Taz if you managed to include stopping without having to ram a barrier of some sort you have done better than I ever did.
