    My midwife told me 5 days in bed, 5 days around the bed and 5 days around the house. It was so hard after an easy home birth but my overall recovery was so much faster. I always tell new expectant mothers that it’s not as relaxing as it sounds but your baby needs you to recover and birth is hard…even if it was an easy delivery.

    My mother noticed that I was to tongue tied as she was being wheeled out of the hospital. The doctor pulled scissors out of his pocket, clipped it right there in the hallway, and we proceeded to the car and home. 1952.

    Such a lovely candid video and anyone who has had a child can absolutely relate to those early days. Thank-you so much for sharing your children's bonding experience in those first few days, and I have to tell you that Daniel is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! So happy to see that you are taking the time to recover and give yourselves the rest you need. God Bless :)

    There are NO WORDS to describe how happy this post made me! Daniel is precious, the kids WITH HIM is priceless (Jude!!!!), and as always, dearest Lisa, your real front and day-in-the-life recordings is what we in the mutual real world appreciate! I am SO glad you are taking it slow, doing skin to skin a ton, and as someone else who had a bad latch (AND, I gave up too quickly and STILL have guilt!) it's nice to see a POSITIVE outcome via good ole' determination and grit! Sending LOTS of love!!! xoxo

    My midwife orders are exactly the same. She always reminds my husband “she’s going to feel great like she can do it all and have all this energy, but do not let her do anything but nurse and sleep” haha. I love keeping up with your sister too. That’s the brand of after birth that comes in my birthing kit that we order in case of emergency and the hubby has to start things up for me. I am just now entering my second tri (this pregnancy was a surprise and our fifth. Third homebirth) so enjoying these videos!!

      Fay K. It’s just limiting the walking around and being active right away because our bodies are still healing. The more you walk around the more chances of bleeding. It goes by fast 😁 also it can vary for each mama. For me with my last I had to do more bed rest PP because I had a lot of bleeding. Birth was amazing but my uterus was just being stubborn. Lol

    I am so thankful my dentist has a laser to reverse the lip tie on my newborn. There is hardly any pain and no stretching involved. It took about 10min. It was so much less expensive than getting it clipped too, probably because he was my regular dentist already. Hope everything continues to go well!!

    🥰💕So happy to see you’re recovery so well. Seeing all your children bonding is so precious. Extreme Self Care is hard for us Moms but it is essential in recovering. I didn’t have any help after delivering my 4 & they were 3 C-sections. The next day after coming home from the hospital my husband would go to work & I would just say hand me the baby & just get by. I had the same situation with the stairs. OMG the stairs. Famous Cheerios story in my house. My older child was begging for Cheerios. My new born baby was crying. I was all alone I went down the stairs slowly got the bowl of milk & Cheerios slowly climbed the steps & on the last step I fell. The milk & Cheerios went everywhere & dropped all down the wall & in the bowl was maybe 10 Cheerios left. I said “ here are your Cheerios”. My son looked at me & was so sad! I will never forget that & I just cried. Something you never forget. I can laugh about it now but boy did that fall hurt. 😂🥰💕🧶🧵👍👍

    Hi Lisa! Your new baby boy is precious! I love keeping up with your vlogs. I've done some training as a lactation consultant and I would really encourage you to look into the effects of an untreated tongue tie. It affects breastfeeding and possibly weight gain initially but it can spill over into other things in the future like speech, jaw movement, ear infections, etc. Blessings!

    Congrats! So happy for you guys! I hope you have a fast recovery.
    I had my fourth baby November 2018 ( so she is almost a year) I had a C-section with her and I have to say my cramping was more painful than my C-section. It was horrible!
    Breastfeeding was always very- VERY painful and difficult with all of my babies, so I chose just to strictly pump.

    I was told by my great aunt that her mother always recommended 2 weeks in bed eating only tea and toast. She had 5 home births in the early 1900’s. She lived into her 90’s and all her offspring were healthy and they all lived into their 90’s. There is great wisdom in the old ways, especially regarding childbirth.

    Binge watching Farmhouse on Boone! I’m new to the channel and I’m so far behind! I think every mom is reminded of those special moments with a newborn. Nursing my babies was a precious time. I think I took inventory of each body part thousands of times! There were no cell phones, etc., when mine were little so just trying to take each smile, squint, wrinkly face was so important. Love how itty-bitties are drawn to touch and rub baby heads! So cute! Wish I had known/ been informed about the postpartum rest/bonding. I had my daughter in 12 minutes of pushing then walked back to my hospital room! What was I thinking?!! 😳 I’m thankful that you have a positive plan and lots of support! You’re a fabulous example to young moms! 👶🏼💗🥰

    I’m glad to hear that your nursing is less painful. I live near Toronto Canada I am a nurse and have worked in the maturity unit for 45years and have been a lactation consultant for 25 of those years. I love that you are spending so much time doing skin to skin and nursing on demand “baby’s demand of course “ when I have worked with newborns who have trouble latching I get mom to lie on her back ( not necessarily flat, using a small pillow ) when the baby brings his mouth over the breast he opens his mouth wide to latch and his tongue will drop down over the underside of the breast, this could be a little more difficult for Daniel if he has a tongue tie. In regard to the tongue tie something to consider as well is that sometimes if a baby figures out how to nurse in the first weeks/ months often when his milk requirements are increasing as he is growing he may have more difficulty sucking efficiently to get an adequate amount each feeding, often I’ve seen this at around 5 months of age Just a thought, something to be aware of for your consideration. Tongue ties are generally easier to clip as a newborn before the “tie/tissue” thickens and gets more nerve endings institu. I don’t mean to offend, hopefully just sharing from some of my experiences. 😊

    I would still go in for the evaluation. Over time the tongue tie thickens and can become a major problem later on. This happened with my baby. She was born with a minor tongue tie (diagnosed by midwife) but at birth she latched fine so we left it alone. At 3 months she suddenly couldn't latch anymore and couldn't feed, I looked in her mouth and there was blood under her tongue. After a nightmare experience of her not being able to feed properly for several days we got her tongue tie cut by a specialist. It is much more traumatic for a 3 month old to have it cut then than at birth. At 3 months its also thicker and often heals and has to be cut a second time. There are exercises you must do to stop it reattaching which we did, involving putting your fingers in their mouth and stretching up their tongue. For a baby with a wound under the tongue this is incredibly traumatic and painful. Everytime I did the exercises my baby would shudder when I came near and start screaming. Having the tongue tie cut the second time did the trick and she started nursing fine again. Moral of the story for me is that her tongue tie wasn't actually minor, the dr said it was actually a significant one that would've interfered with her eating solids. So I would recommend having it checked just in case!! Congratulations!

    • @mirnie555
      @mirnie555 5 лет назад +2

      I agree on the being proactive front.. I noticed a tongue and lip tie on my son at 2 days old, my midwives told me not to worry about it since i didn't have pain and he gained weight well (with my extremely abundant supply). Well... once he was about 6 weeks old my supply began to taper because he just wasnt stimulating me to make enough milk. He and I were both miserable for a few weeks until we finally saw a breastfeeding medicine specialist and she clipped the two ties for us, it was very hard on me seeing my 2.5 month old go through such a traumatic time for him.. I am convinced that if we had been proactive and done it when he was a newborn he would've been able to cope much easier with it (he would've nursed after and fallen asleep). Trust your gut though! But it never hurts to be evaluated, after you can decide your best course of action.

I’m gonna have to figure out the stairs situation as well our bedrooms are all up there. I was hoping you would mention some after birth type supplements/solutions I’m so worried about the cramps after.

    • @seemedecrazymuse
      @seemedecrazymuse 5 лет назад +1

      My big sis warned me about those cramps, because she had them with her 2nd baby and this was my 2nd, so I went and got myself “afterease” by “wish garden” and I’m really glad that i did because it helped me a whole lot! It took those cramps away.
      I didn’t need a whole lot of it. It’s a tincture, and it has herbs like crampbark and black haw bark. It seemed pretty strong to me, so I would consider learning about the ingredients before taking it. When I was buying it, another lady who had 4 kids came up to me and told me to buy two or three because I would need more, but I ended up just needing the one and didn’t use the whole bottle, but maybe it’s because I was kinda cautious about it too.

    Laid back nursing really made a difference for me nursing my son. He also had a small tounge tie, and it was truly painfull when nursing him. After i got into the laid back nursing, it was just so much more natural than all these 'right' positions, different nurses taught me. Its beyond me why its not used more here in Denmark, but maybe it's more normal in other contries? And of course i'm not saying it's the right method for everyone. Blessings in Christ Jesus!

    I'm not an expert but my son got the same callus on the middle of his upper lip from nursing and it was the result of a lip tie, which also caused him to have a bad latch. My lactation consultant said it's really common to have both lip and tongue tie (my son had both). Just wanted to let you know in case you want to check him for that too.

    Back when my children were born, we spent a week in the hospital after delivery. Considering the cost of just walking into a hospital these days, we don't do that anymore! We were cautioned to take it easy for a month or so and could not drive for 4-6 weeks. My sister-in-law (mother of four) told me, "Labor is well named. You're tired and need to rest." YES!
    Daniel is adorable! I love how the older children are with him. The girls truly are your little helpers.

    My fourth kid has an upper lip tie that we were able to nurse through, but that first week was quite a learning experience. Praying Daniel's tongue tie is mild enough you can work through it quickly. He's precious. Congrats!

    You must have an amazing husband and support system to afford to take a week off and just have the baby, I would venture not to many people have that. Your a blessed wife and mom! Enjoy your growing family! You do a great job feeding them healthy and doing things naturally!

    I would get it revised sooner then later just because its easier now to do the stretches then when they are older. Also, your milk production is currently hormonal sometimes nursing of TT babies start noticing issues when milk production is no longer hormonal and supply regulate.

    My daughter has a pretty decent tongue and lip tie! We went through the same thing, nursing was so painful when she was born. It went away though, and 7 months later we don’t have any problems! Praise God! 🙌🏽 praying the same for you! 💜

    What a great job you're doing. I really wish I would have taken that time to just be with the baby exclusively. My mother in law came to take care of the kids at home when I had another baby, but she left the day I came home from the hospital. Now I feel holy moly how did I do it, my last 2 were c sections UGH. I think I should just get into bed now and let everyone take care of me lol...

    Congratulations on your new baby. You were right about taking it easy after birth. After my 5th baby I felt wonderful and got up and did all kinds of things...I regretted that when I developed strong abdominal pain. At that point I was forced to take a break. I learned my lesson and was more careful when the next baby came along.

    I wish I had been given that advice about laying in bed for 2 weeks after having a baby....In my day it was all about getting back to a "normal" routine as quick as possible, because that, was what was best for mom and baby.... fast-forward to 2021 and now I have a "sling" supporting my bladder along with Botox injections inside my bladder to help urge/stress incontinence, not to mention a partial hysterectomy (due to an enlarged uterus) sounds like your midwives are light years ahead of traditional western medicine!!!.....

    If you're on the fence about whether or not to get it checked or to tough it out, just thought I'd throw this out there, tongue ties effect more than just breastfeeding it's just the first thing. Obviously it's up to you and your doctor how or if you want to fix it. I wanted to share that my husband has a "moderate" tongue tie that wasn't fixed and he is still impacted by it as an adult. He looked up fixing it now, apparently it's a lot bigger of a procedure as an adult because your mouth has to unlearn and relearn how to move, and doesn't heal as quickly due to adult foods and talking, so chose not to do it. But he wished it had been fixed as a baby. Just a few examples, difficulty speaking Spanish or certain tongue shape sounds, eating ice cream cones (anything that involves licking or sucking), and cavities (there are some studies that suggest tongue/lip ties reduce the salivary rate or how saliva flows in the mouth, high salivary rates "rinse" the teeth better from sugars and foods so less cavities). You do you mamma!

    Keep in mind that lip and tongue ties can cause speech delay as talking can be painful. My little has a lip tie and 3 years old and still not talking. I’d get the evaluation honestly.

    Two of my kids were tongue-tied. If the latch doesn't get better try a nipple guard. I am not sure what I would have done if I didn't have it for my first kid.

    Even though Daniel is gaining weight I would still urge you to get his tongue tie evaluated. My 16 month old had a tongue tie that wasn’t diagnosed and treated until 11 months. It was painful to nurse at first but he adapted and then it wasn’t. He also steadily gained weight. Since his was posterior and he had some movement we both adapted. Now fast forward to starting solids at 6 months it was a nightmare. I tried both purées and baby led weaning. The pediatrician kept dismissing my concerns. He also had constant hiccups 6-7 times a day because he swallowed so much air. The pediatrician kept blaming it on an immature gut. We had him on a probiotic and gripe water regimen constantly. He now has a feeding delay and a gross motor delay with his tongue muscle because the tie was not caught until so far later on. We now are taking him to feeding/speech therapy. He is still breastfeeding at 16 months so that tells you how much we both pushed and worked hard. My point is better safe then sorry. Have the evaluation just Incase. The longer you wait to resolve a possible easy problem the more problems you could run into down the road.
