My first time on an airplane as a young lad was on an Air Malta 737-200 back in 1987. I can still remember my excitement! Thanks for making this video Noel! 👍

A great review and brings back some memories. Air Malta was the first airline and first flight I ever took (and first ever overseas trip with my mum and dad). 1st June 1993 - Glasgow to Luqa on one of their old B737's. I was 9. Happy times. It was the beginning of many flights and lots of travel over the years (and much more to come). But every time I fly I'm still that excited, slightly nervous 9 year old kid I was that day :-)
nice reveal indeed! my late partner and I flew in the late '80s I think with the inaugural flight from Amsterdam to Malta and stayed at the Malta Hilton. Great time. There was a 'real' BC cabin at these days, but I forgot the type of (old) plane!
I had the pleasure of flying Air Malta 707 plenty of times. Visited the cockpit during flights. The good old days 👍🇲🇹

So beyond thrilled that you reviewed Air Malta! As a half Maltese/British person I used to travel pretty frequently between London and Malta, but was always disappointed with their service/food. The last time I flew with them in 2017, the meal they provided was actually inedible and definitely not representative of the vibrant cuisine of the island. I am delighted to see that the revamp in their menu- and that they are finally serving traditionally inspired dishes that are beautifully presented! Grazzi Noel!

Travelled on my first plane which was Air Malta in 1988 as a child. Those were the days when a curtain separated smoking from the non smoking section! All the children were invited into the cockpit to see the pilot and co-pilot fly the plane. It was amazing seeing all the controls and I developed a love of planes after that trip.
I am a maltese and this video made me very happy

That's what I did, I live 5 minutes away from Malta Airport and often go there just to see the aircaft.
Once more a fantastic video Noel. Can always tell how much you love doing what you do. Only one small error though. Air Malta used to have a fleet of Boeing 720s in the 70's not 707s though I believe they did lease 707s in from time to time. Any way you keep up the good work. Look forward to viewing your next offering.

Disappointing, the start of the flight yet at least it got better! I love the fact the route went directly over my house! I know for a fact I got two air maltas that came over my house on flightradar24, in the past two days, you may have been on one them :D

Thanks for the review. Standard European Business class seating. The catering, however, looked really good for a such a short flight. 3 course meal! Impressive.
A nice and detailed review of this lovely Airline :) I would say that they really changed to better as from 2018 they didn't have good reviews. Well done :)

Noel, love all your reviews. Thank you for taking the time to review our national airline! Glad you liked it. It still needs to make a lot of improvements, but it's getting there. Hopefully within a few years, KM will be getting the A321 NEO XLR with flights to JFK! Watch this space!

Nice review. Word of warning: The hot towels airlines pass out are not sanitary. You are taking a huge risk of getting conjunctivitis if you wipe your eyes with them! Several friends who are physicians have warned me about this over the years.
I flew Air Malta in 1986. We were due to fly from Cardiff on Air Malta's Boeing 720, sadly though we flew on a 737-200. Great flight and as a kid then I always had a flight deck visit. I recall the older Captain with a blanket over his legs.
Hi Noel! Have you ever flown to or out of Burlington International in Vermont? It’s a small airport but there’s an excellent crêpe restaurant and a little shop too. It’s my favorite airport because security is pretty quick and easy and the Skinny Pancake makes amazing food.

Thanks for visiting our beautiful island. :) I used business class on Air Malta many times. It's not bad but I agree the priority boarding aspect needs improvement. Mind you, you were sitting behind one of the ministers :)

I flew on Air Malta many years ago a great little airline most enjoyable. Whilst in Malta we flew from Valletta Harbour to Gozo and back on Harbour Air DHC-3T Turbo Beaver on floats. The flight was empty on way back just us onboard so chief pilot took us for a complete aerial tour of island very cool and always wise to speak to the pilot and tell him you are avgeeks, sometimes works in your favour! Sorry to say this service has stopped. Note years before the floatplane it was a Bell 212 service, missed out there!!!

Great video as always Noel. Not sure I share your view of Malta being beautiful. Gozo, right next door (accessible by ferry) is certainly that, but I personally found Malta rather a barren place. However, it is an intriguing island with loads of history and worth a visit for that alone. The grand harbour in Valetta is amazing. Maybe I was just unlucky in that I spent a week there in Easter 1995 when the weather was exceptionally cold most of the time and my hire car was dreadful.
Have to agree, 'Malta' and 'beautiful' don't really go together, even in the sunshine. It's either a barren rock or an urban jungle but as you say it is an interesting place and I enjoyed the week I had there a couple of years ago.

I live in Malta and was born in Malta, and have flown with Air Malta numerous times. And to be honest I wouldn’t pay extra money for business class , because there really is nothing that special when it comes to seat size and comfort. The fact is this, the sad truth is this, there isn’t enough space on board the plane because it’s a small plane . Nice review and at least the food looked very nice!
Noel, out of curiosity, I'm sure there's an Iranian airline that even today still flies the B707, maybe you could check them out, Saha Air I think they are? Not sure if they still do tbh. If they do still operate the 707, are you brave enough?
Well done as always Noel and I agree about Business Class passengers should have their OWN bus to the aircraft...otherwise as you demonstrated its a complete shambles! Great take off vision! Is a Maltese omelette different to a normal dish ? Great review again !
Thanks Craig! I’m not one to want to feel holier than thou but boarding first is one of the things you pay extra for (so you have time to enjoy pre pushback drinks and things). To be honest not sure about the omelette, I’m not a foodie but it was very nice.

In the 1970s some U.S. airlines turned the middle seat in coach into a table if not occupied.
I wondered if someone had a Air Malta Business class video, interesting, but unlees there is extra legroom, not sure from the video, is it worth any extra? I have flown business class with other airlines that offered quite a bit more. I have flown Air Malta many times, starting in 1988 when we flew in one of their old 727 aircraft, sharing it with former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff. Generally a good experience, usually comfy leather seats, reasonable legroom, although we usually went for the extra legroom option, food a little basic but its a short flight.

You can always pre-order special meals with most airlines.
On the bus first = off the bus / on the plane last

I used to fly fequently to Malta back in the 1980s but I wasn't impressed with Air Malta so usually chose BA instead. Luqa airport has definitely improve since then, it was like a 3rd world airport back then!
Just a note: Il-Bizzilla would be pronounced "ill-bits-ìll-ah" and means 'lace art' which is an old Maltese tradition :)

I went to Malta and it rained every day for 2 weeks. The tea in the hotel was made with salt water and the only entertainment was an old boy playing the piano every evening

Why is the Uk not Schengen Area?
A very good question! The official response is that the UK opted out of Schengen for security reasons - to help UK keep borders secure against terrorists and other undesirables. My unofficial response is that the government were pandering to the euro-sceptics, little englanders and xenophobes (as they are now). Sorry if that's politically incorrect, but just my viewpoint. Economically (which at the end of the day is really all that matters) it just doesn't make sense.
Completely agree with you BuzzUk personally I think we should be in Schengen, it would make things so much easier, and is a massive benefit that we’re missing out on.
@@buzzukfiftythree Completely disagree, countries have borders and I don't see the problem with showing some ID when entering somebody else's its a minor inconvenience.
