This explains so much about why my cheek filler result really wasn’t the best. I knew what I wanted but got peer pressured by the injector to do what you described in this video as feminine cheeks filler. I suppose it’s because that’s all they really knew. Next time I’m literally going to make sure my injector agrees with this video or I’ll go elsewhere
I’m a guy and I kinda like my cheekbones higher. I like when I see guys with high cheekbones so I try to recreate that when I get fillers.

One quick clarifying Q- around 1:38 in the video, you mention that, in filling mens cheeks, the line coming down from the lateral pupillary area (that’s bisecting the line below, that runs from the lower tragus to the oral commissure), the apex of filler should be at the “1/3 point”, meaning 1/3 towards the top, not bottom (in fleshy cheek) in men. But how you used your 1:1.6 Golden means ratio triangle tool in the video, measuring *down* from the eye, not up from the line below, mathematically, would put the apex point too low down on the cheek and not on the cheek bone. Shouldn’t the tool be placed starting on the line below, the one drawn from the lower tragus to corner of mouth, at that bisecting point, not coming down from the lateral pupil? Otherwise the apex point is 2/3 down the cheek not 1/3 down the cheek.
Wow you are so good, when you do your measurements and markings then you use your one to one ratio tool, you nailed it.

Great video. Not criticizing your personal touch on your fillers... but I restore the zygomatic arch area for men as well doing the bolus technique you described for women on your right cheek. I think just depositing at the malar eminence gives too much of a cherubic appearance. As they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder... as well as what the patient wants. I think a nice defined zygomatic arch with a nice defined jaw line is a strong masculine look.

It's hard to believe Dan is almost 65
So basically men would need to inject a bit lower and more on the inner side. I've heard contradictory advice though from a different doc on youtube who recommended to focus on the higher outer zygomatic bone like Johnny Depp or Chris Evans

Hi Dan, quick question. How does injecting a bolus in the frontal facial plane (along the lateral iris vertical line) is enough to fill the frontal mid-cheek deep fat loss? Should we place more than one bolus to that area to restore the deep fat loss (aka "apple of cheek")? Should we use a cannula for any mid-cheek area if it is medial to the lateral iris to be safe? Thank you!!
That depends on the cheek. Some only need a bolus for a small depression. Others would benefit from more product using a cannula.

Won’t injecting very laterally for women make the face shape wider & hence distorts facial proportions? Specially if their face doesn’t need to be any wider?

Yes, especially in mid face. But I get longer results using a needle in the lateral cheeks.

Wow i used to have a flat face with round shape. I always do one cc of cheek fillers voluma every year. Though theres minimal changes. I dont know if i should go for 2 cc but i have researched that the previous fillers is still in your cheeks so i just do 1cc. I want a big cheekbones but afraid that 2cc is too much and can make my face more rounder. what do you think doctor?
That will take an aesthetic eye to decide! All I can say is that you do not want to over inject the cheeks.

Mary Rose Great question! From what I’ve learned there’s not much difference with African American and Caucasian cheeks. Many Asians, however prefer not having much or any hollowing under the cheeks. The overall aesthetic outcome should be a discussion between provider and client beforehand. Hope this helps!

Yes for the lateral cheeks. For the medial cheeks I don’t go to the bone, but I stay in the deep fat pads.

I recently had a procedure done that I'm not happy with. Actually I've had a few problem procedures that could have been avoided if the nurse had followed your instructions. I repeatedly gone back to the same place because the doctor is really good, but she only performs radiesse filler injects and leaves hyaluronic fillers to the nurse because if something goes wrong there is a fail safe enzyme (hyaluronidase).
I explained to her clearly what I wanted and she ignored me and went through the steps that she normal does for the majority of the clients, which happens to be female.
I now have a great deal of anxiety and I am carefully considering the option of hyaluronidase. However I do not want to dissolve thousands of dollars spent from previous treatments. It is quite frustrating

What do you mean when you said 23-30° up the lateral cheek for females? Is that the angle you're inserting the needle?
Fillers are creating the illusion of cheekbones. This is the angle I’m looking for when creating the lateral cheekbone.

Question: If I created an option for my website, where you could have full access to videos that I’m limited to posting due to Health Canada rules, such as more fillers, botox, fat dissolvers and thread lifts. Would you pay a small monthly or annual fee? If so, how much? Thanks 🙏🏼
But everyone has cheeky asymmetry, then what if you use the same measuring method for both cheeks and end up at different spots? Wouldn’t you get uneven cheeks again after filler?
At least you’d have a reference point. Then you make a decision with your client on whether you want to raise one side or keep as is.

For cheeks, on average, it’s about 1-1.5cm appart to start with. But that’s variable. Afterwards, eyeball it and touch up where it’s needed.

How much filler would you tend to use for men cheeks, per side?
Everyone is different. I wish I could make this a simple answer. Think angular vs volume. If they’re lacking a cheek, then 0.1-0.3cc is what I would go with. A good rule is to not project a mans mid cheek beyond 3mm.

doesn't filler move though? unless its surgically put in there.
If it’s placed in the deep fat, it tends not to move. Lip filler does sometimes migrate into the upper lip and tear trough filler does tend to migrate superficially.

Everybody all the guys in my family have high cheek bones. Being from southern Honduras, we had some Mayan mixed in with Spaniards. The truth is most of the men in the family don't look their age until some start hitting late 50s. But he is totally right. Men can have high cheek bones. If not done right they can look feminine, if done right totally youthful. But in the wrong hands it can look not good. Just to give you a good example of male high cheek bone. The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau :) but being Latino the majority of the guys in the family we have a certain Oscar De La Joya look about us, think Slater from saved by the bell. I'm like a cross between Halle Berry and Billy Corgan and Toni Braxton. Lol

Oh my! A good injector will never need any of those rulers or measuring devices. More yet if an injector needs this kind of lecture to learn how to produce a gender appropriate look, it only means he/she does not have a good aesthetic eye, nor understanding of facial harmony to start with, and, therefore, should not be doing filler injections on anyone! Without talent no matter how much you study and practice the best you can become would be a decent technician...
I agree. A good injector doesn’t need to measure anyone’s face prior to a procedure. But a great injector understands that measuring prior will provide reassurance to the client, and will only help with their accuracy.
