I kind of knew by my early 20s that I just wasn't wired for monogamy. It was a long and winding journey from there and a tricky transition to polyamory because the one cardinal sin in the swinging community in those days (and to a lesser extent now), was that you weren't supposed to develop feelings for anyone but your primary partner.
Men in poly relationships need to have their game up pretty high, or the polyness of the relationship is going to be pretty one sided. Just a fact of life. Stay in shape, take care of yourself, etc.
