    Lots of superb shots here - well done for making the effort and for standing on the rain for so long! The last time I was out filming was 2 years ago at Scout Green when we had 2 trains coming north like this! I miss it.

    Brilliant camera work as always Nige, you're the best! The weather plus Tangmere nearly blew the guy standing on the platform end at Kirkby Stephen off his feet! As for the Jacobite stock, I gather it's still under review in terms of 'slam door lock certification'. Strange for I've not heard of any injuries due to inefficient mechanisms, but then I guess in our current catastrophised world of 'health & safety' we all need to be wrapped up in cotton wool for our own protection. Hey-ho, happy days!

      Thanks Rare Rufus for your very kind comments, the atrocious weather continued as the day went on, health and safety gets involved with everything nowadays as all common sense has gone out of the window sadly, cheers 👍

    Great sequences Nigel. Must have been tricky in that wind and very wetting waiting for the 5 😧 Think I'd have gone home after Tangmere but you did get decent footage at Kirkby Stephen.

    • @nige7577
      @nige7577  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks Keith, wind was more of a problem as that blows the rain where you don’t want it, only got the one shot of the 5 as the shot off the wall was not doable in those conditions, even at KS I had to move the slightly as some guttering had moved above me and was gushing water right above the camera 😂💦cheers 👍

    Great shooting as usual! Thanks!
    I pitched up to see them at Penrith South, and witnessed the Brit. being given the beans thrashing past there just as the rain really came on - but I got my hands and phone so wet that I couldn't operate it to catch Tangmere a few minutes later, and because I was so wet I wimped out and trudged home before the Black 5 / stock move!
    So went another soggy day in Paradise! 😀

    • @nige7577

    That Brit looked and sounded great. Very nice. I wish I could have got there yesterday.
    That pair, Britannia and a BoB, take me back decades to the train set I had when I was a lad. For Christmas (must have been 1965, cos in 64 I got a transistor radio), I got the latest star from Triang 34051 'Winston Churchill' and my younger brother got 70000. He didn't realise he wanted a loco, but I convinced him that he needed one and he was getting the better and more expensive of the pair (iirc Winston cost £3 15s or thereabouts and Britannia was £4-odd, probably because of the more complex moulding). They were stars for Tri-ang because they both featured the new smoke generators. You put a few drops of special 'smoke oil' into a holder under the chimney, and as the loco ran and warmed up, a wire element evaporated the oil and if you had good eyesight, in good lighting, with a good imagination, you could see a faint wisp of bluish smoke drifting from the chimney, giving off a not unpleasant smell that I still remember.
    Their exhausts on Shap look a bit different to what they did on my 6 foot by 4 foot train set.
    Your video also shows a good comparison of the exhaust arrangements, with the soft exhaust of the Bulleids contrasting with the hard push from the single chimney of the Brit (or on different days, a Jube). I put that down to the multiple blast pipe of the BoB, which I've noticed in the past doesn't lift the exhaust very well. The boxy shape of the Spam Can then pulls it back down into the low pressure zone on the downwind side of the train in a crosswind - something else I've noticed on windy days with Tangmere.

    • @nige7577
      @nige7577  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks Alan, certainly the star of the day just unfortunate as she was to fail later, that brings back happy memories as my eldest brother got a black steam locomotive Triang train set with the smoke generator and I got the blue and yellow Triang Transcontinental double diesel engine set, the bark is always better from the single chimney locos and it doesn't help Tangmere when she's getting pushed but still plenty of exhaust or volcano effect as it has been called, cheers👍

    • @alangilbertson8239
      @alangilbertson8239 8 месяцев назад

      @@nige7577 Was that the 'Blue Streak' diesel set, that came with a power car, an unpowered duplicate loco and two (or three) coaches, one of which had an observation deck in the roof? The locos had a headlight on the nose, a yellow cab and yellow 'wings' spreading from the centre line of the nose? I believe it was based on an Australian train. If it was, that was my very first electric train! Cost something like £6 9s 6d with an oval track, ordered from my aunt's catalogue. It was the set I really wanted, but I didn't think my parents could afford it, so I asked for a two car DMU set with a circular track instead. They must have twigged my heart wasn't in it though, because I couldn't believe my eyes that Christmas morning when I unwrapped the big box.

      @@alangilbertson8239Yes that’s the one Alan, I was chuffed to bits with it but don’t remember what happened to it once I left home but I’ve managed to buy a replacement only recently and although not in mint condition and needs the wheel’s cleaning and motor servicing it will do as it certainly bring back many happy memories from my childhood 😀

    Great to see a Brit again on the WCML, but by the white exhaust didn't seem to be 'doing her bit', maybe the failure at Carlisle was the culprit eh?

    So it's the air cons for the Harry Potter Train this year. That'd mean theyd be very short of stock for other tours, I imagine there'd be a lot of hiring in going on. Plus they'll need an ETH class 47 on every train, which will be costly and operationally inconvenient. But WC have stuck it to the Man by, er, finally giving in.
