  • German flag carrier Lufthansa has had quite a peculiar relationship with its Airbus A340-600 fleet! From initially wanting to retire every aircraft, to having a handful of them fly limited long-haul schedules for its first class cabin, the carrier can’t seem to make up its mind on the type.
Lufthansa then settled on operating a one-in-one-out plan to see a new first-class configured Airbus A350-900 replace one quadjet. But with yet another exciting twist, the airline is bringing back more Airbus A340-600s from storage. Let’s examine this move in today’s video!

@@derser541 kinda agree. I had a bad experience from MNL > AKL because the cabin was that dated. Not only where was practically no entertainment onboard but especially for those in business class, they got ripped off because it was no better for them in terms of amenities and mind you, this was a 12 hour flight. Nonetheless, I think the aircraft was beautiful.
Though granted, Philippine Airlines was in the process of gradually retiring these anyway until they received their A350s. They needed a long haul jet that can make that kind of journey. PAL had already retired all of its 747s by 2014. The A340 would go on for another 4 years.

The demand for premium seats are skyrocketing because, for most airlines around the world, economy class is becoming less comfortable.
In addition to that, people are traveling more and also using credit cards, which is leading to accumulation of miles and awards status, which also increases demand. I'm sure this is good for airlines, but bad for the average traveler.

And if efficiency is the goal, all the more reason to place the Dreamliner on the longer routes and use the 340 in NY… very possible it doesn’t happen but I find it interesting and intriguing considering these A340s have always operated from Munich and have never been available for the EWR-FRA route, so we have nothing to go by.

There is something enduringly captivating about quads! Apart from that, reactivating so many A340s to meet unexpected demand is further evidence that the demise of the passenger B747 (quite swiftly) and the A380 (protracted) is not going to the end of such large capacity airliners. The B777s and A350s will not move the same number of passengers, airlines will need to acquire more airliners to meet demand which such large airliners soaked up, this will increase delays at airports unable to cope with so many more movements, leading to demand for - again - larger capacity airliners. I think that this is where the RR Ultrafan comes in.

@@aviationlba747 the 787 alone has more orders than the a380 , a350 and a330neo combined ... Boeing seems to be holding up pretty well in terms of the widebody market share, and is in not in any threat of "seriously " losing it to anyone .
As soon as possible just means without any further delays , because the 777X is already 5 years late.

Nothing like a quad jet engine aircraft either commercial, freighter or military, the feel and sound during takeoff just can't be beat. Given the recent design completion of a new more powerful and fuel efficient power plant for wide body aircraft expect the return to be a relative short one. Expect to see the commercial freight companies to continuing make use of the iconic Boeing 747 Freighter well into the future.

@@YSLaurens I get that, dear. There was a short video couple days back, saying people in Lebanon fire Kalashnikovs into the sky to celebrate the new year or similar holidays. Stray bullets penetrated the fuselage of MEA aircraft late last year which is horrendous. My comment was more of a nod to that story

Airbus at its best. So much for Virgin Atlantic. There is always the Airbus A350 1000. My favourite quadjets are the Airbus A340 and the Vickers VC10. My favourite Boeing is the 757.

Airbus A340 is one of the more efficient faster and sleeker airliners on the market that should be really given more appreciation that they have further the Deutschland Luftfahrtunternehmen Lufthansa has been instrumental in this regard plus the Airbus A-340 airliner has been a very good operating machine for instance it was used in a Anarctican journey from the southern tip of the Alkebulon continent proved just how much a good performing aircraft that they are so they should be preserve to continue usage period for the various airliner to reconsider alright.
