- Last week, German flag carrier Lufthansa welcomed the Airbus A340-600 back to its active fleet. Five of the aircraft will gradually return to service, providing additional capacity for the airline over the coming months. In case you forgot, the carrier’s entire A340-600 fleet had been sent to storage at the start of the pandemic. But now, it seems the big birds will once again be able to carry passengers for Germany’s largest airline. Let’s look at the finer details of this exciting turn of events…

So happy to hear that the A-340-600 is back in service... such a graceful bird
Im living in frankfurt and im probably at the best planespotting airport right now. 747s of all types (even sometimes a 747 - 200) are flying over my house the whole day. The last place where you really can see the 747 Passenger version in action. I saw the A340 - 600 flying over my house the last time and i was really surprised to see it because i thought they retired it. But im very happy to see this amazing plane again 😍
Ahhh you are soooooo lucky 🙏🏽
Frankfurt is the best airport for plane spotting.. so many aircraft types
@@marcusianaviation9372 I would definitely learn Deutsch and move there. Do you also live in Frankfurt? I go to Berlin a lot but Flughafen Schönefeld doesn't really have much of a variety particularly with Big Jets. @Vapo is so lucky. I think if I lived in Frankfurt near the Flughafen, I would probably not sleep at all 😄😂
The a380 are missing doe😞
@@reazyy9667 Yes! They are beautiful Flying Machines aren't they? And we love them! Unfortunately because of the cost of running them they are only a Plane-spotter's Dream but not Economically viable for Airlines to maintain or even Airbus to keep manufacturing them at further financial loss...sad altogether
I’ve always loved the 346. It’s great to see that Lufty still flying the bird.
I flew the A340-600 from BOS to FRA (pre-pandemic) and in business class ...It was a fantastic flight...and excellent service.
It is encouraging to see larger aircraft being reactivated. I hope it is the beginning of normality for Global travel.
new normality*
More like polluting the earth all over again
@@boobitch_ this is true 👍🏼 and I think that’s why a lot of the 4-engined aeroplanes which drink fuel and are very expensive to maintain but are also not environmentally-friendly are being retired in favour of 787s & now A350s, A320/321 Neos & 737 MAXs (which are now certified & safe and being delivered to airlines)
@@boobitch_ shutup
Very glad to hear that news👍. In fact as of 2022, 37 A340-600s are still in service from other carriers including Lufthansa, Mahan Air, Air Atlanta Icelandic, and Maleth-Aero
Good news for economy passengers, the 2-4-2 layout means less chance of a middle seat compared to the 787, A350 or 777.
The 787(few people know this, I think they should know it) was supposed to be 2-4-2 since the begging of time to be the contender of the 330, and it would perfectly be if airlines were not that care for probability and money(except Jal). As for the other ones, the 340 and the 330(more better the neo) would be my selection if my budget doesn't catch that much. The 777(3-3-3) and the 350 my second. And I would not select any if the 747 or the 380 are in the way.
@@sergiolaurencio7534 most 777 are now 3-4-3 unfortunately.
Good to see 340-600 back to skies. Even if less comfy than 787 or 777 still a great big bird.. my last flight on Sept 2019 Bogota-Frankfurt in premium economy + free upgrade to business class
Agree with that for Business & Prem.Econ. But for Economy the 2-4-2 config with normal aisles of the 340-600 is more preferable than the 3-3-3 config with narrow aisles of the B787 i.m.h.o. Love the 340-600 !
@@dubrovink66 Agreed :) Especially most 777s now opt for the 3-4-3 configuration. (Unless its a 747/A380...no twin engine bird should squeeze 10 seats abreast!!!!) I wouldn't be surprised if the 787 in Economy follows this trend in the future too
@@jonathankeonijoaquin3259 the 787 was supposed to be 2-4-2 also, but it wasn't thank to the airlines. I know many more errors that happened on the Aviation industry
Planespotters will be in heaven!!
The proportions are very pleasing to the eye!
This is good news! My first and probably last time flying on a Lufthansa A340-600 was back in 2015.
747+A340=🛫😍
Flew in first class on A340-600 from Chicago to Munich. What a thrill! Hope to do so again.
I've always enjoyed the A340 as a passenger. The air quality is especially good, which makes transatlantic flights seem a little shorter.
Wow Airbus 340-600..Such A Lovely BIG Bird..remember this plane fying with inn between asia too middle east&vice versa too👌👌👌.
My favorite airplane
Absolutely fantastic news to see the 340 600 back in service, surely one of the most impressive looking aircraft of all time (Concorde being number 1) person last flew on Virgin A340 600 from D.C. to LHR some years ago, only had 70+ passengers on board. Would complete the set if Lufthansa brought back the 380 too.
unlikely to see the 380 on any non-emirates returning to serve but lufthansa does wack things so
@@isaacseiken9522 now its back tho !!
I think the 340-600 is still the most graceful, beautiful airplane in the sky.
World number one Lufthansa bird 340-600 is back to service and so beautiful bird
my last Lufthansa A340 flight had been in an A340-600 from Munich to Denver in May 2019. The best vacation trip I ever had, the A340 has a very low noise level.
love the a340, such a pretty plane
I love quadjets. They are seriously cool! Glad Lufty is bringing them back into service. I wish Virgin would do the same with theirs, and their 747s.
That being said, however, Lufty really needs to step up it's game if they want customers to continue to come back. Their service and food quality have taken a serious nosedive lately. Come on, Lufty, get it together!
Just flew with them, couldn’t agree with you more and customer service from flight attendants isn’t the best either.
I miss Virgin’s 747s it was my favorite plane in the fleet
This is very exciting I would fly Lufthansa whenever possible if I lived in Europe or travelled internationally
Last flew on a LH A340-600 MUC to LAX in July 2013. Missed seeing these heavies at LAX. Glad they're coming back.
As Mr Burns would say...... "Excellent!!!"
I flew the A340-600 from FRA to DXB , great aircraft.
I hope that Lufthansa keeps their A340-300s, A340-600s, And Boeing 747-400 till late 2020s(2026-2027). I really wanna fly on them so much 🥲🥲✈️
Great aircraft. Have flown many times with Iberia with it. Loved it every time. On last Ocasion used it to fly from Spain to Colombia and back. Hope it stays in service for many years coming.Congrats on your great channel! Warmest Regards!
The last A-340 I flew on was one of these aircraft. I flew Lufthansa to the US many years ago with my family.
Really looking forward to my A340 Flight from Chicago to Frankfurt this year!
I thought they weren't flying it to Chicago? Or is it only the 300?
@@visionist7 its the 300, but hey its my first time flying the a340, its ok for me :D
@@Alteshaus21 I was hoping to fly the same route but it was so expensive in Business (to get that cool quad engine view) that I went with IAG instead, much cheaper. At least on the way back I'm flying an A380 for the first time. I booked first class as it was pretty cheap but everyone says BA first class is terrible... ah well it was no more expensive than premium economy on Lufthansa 😳
Quad engines planes still has some life.
this is great news to dlh crew and passengers alike. kudos lufty!
My favourite aircraft since Concorde. So elegant & a beauty to travel aboard. Such a classy aircraft
My second also next to the 747
Beautiful aircraft
I have never but would like to... A340 600 are great machines
I ❤ all of the quad-jets !!! The tri-jets were good too but essentially, they are no more.
The DC10, MD11 and L1011 were all marvels of their eras. Just too inefficient by today’s standards.
@@nelizmastr True, but back in my aerospace days, when I flew a lot, and was responsible for DC8s and 9s, my favorite planes were DC8s & B707s - - then became the B747s, which I still love !!!
My last flight was on a LH A346 was on 29/11/2015.
Though had numerous flights with Lufthansa they were all on other equipment such as the A320,A321,A330,A340,A380,CRJ as well as both B744 & B747-8.
Great news! Whatever the economics, this plane is loved by it’s passengers.
The economics can't be too bad after all.
Reminds me of KLM flying its MD-11s for much longer than anticipated. Financials for such aircxraft can sometimes be advantageous if the plane is owned or has very low leasing costs which makes up for higher maintenance costs of 4 engines. And the equation changes if price of oil goes up. Curious if Lufthansa will start trying to accelerate 350 deliveries if price of oil becomes too unstable due to war.
Awesome. The A346 had always eluded me. Is there any concrete schedule of which routes it's flying on?
Newark & JFK and one or two other airports I believe
A340 are one of my favourite plane, good news❤❤❤❤❤
Ours too! 😊✈️ - LR
YES! Love the A340-600. Excellent news!
Our honeymoon a little over 17 years ago. A Lufthansa airbus A340 direct from Chicago O’Hare to Frankfurt Germany. :-) first class would’ve been incredible! As it was, we were in row 43. Lol
Yes my favourite aircraft is back in service
I definitely want to see the A340s return to the skies again!
Great news. Flew on SA 340-600 from JFK to Johannesburg, via Dakar, and back (Dulles) in 2012. Quite an experience!
Saw it in Vancouver. Absurdly long fuselage really makes an impression.
two years with this pandemic man so long
Yay so happy for yhis
I am very glad to see more four holers taking to the skies!
I will be flying with the A340-600 from Munich to JFK in July! I’m looking forward to it!
Film some video on board! I subbed
I am very excited because I am a Munich Spotter and the 5 A346 will be flying From Munich To the world
This is fantastic news to hear that my favourite four engined bird is back flying again it was my favourite plane of all time until the A350 came along and what a plane that is first flew on it in October last year from Paris to São Paulo I will never forget it airbus really know how to make the best planes
Lovely planes.
The only flight for me in A340 is D-AIHV from HKG to FRA. Nice to see this steel bird can return to sky again.
Yay
Flew on the A340 summer 2005 Chicago to Munich for Tanzommer Festival in Innsbruck. Long walk back to economy. The toilets in the lower level were novel… and smart with all the brats, sauerkraut and cabbage served! Nice plane…
Awesome flew first class fro Saudi to Fra 4 or 5 years ago
I see the A340s every day taking off!
Glad to see this. Now if the A380 returns, it'll be amazing!
Lufthansa retired a380
@@nickolliver3021 yeah, sadly.
@@nickolliver3021 The A380s are in the same state as the A346s were before they started reactivating it!
Every A346 returning is a good sign for an A380 return.
@@_daxre no the a380s were permanently retired whereas the a346s were on long term storage and the airline put them to use this tear because of 777-9 delay and 787 delay.
They have dully retired the a380. They are waiting for more a350s to replace the a346 and a380s in 2023 onwards
@@nickolliver3021 Apart from that, the official statement for bringing back the A340-600 was that Lufthansa can hereby offer First Class from Munich.
A346 is in no connection with the 779 or/and the 789 because both don´t have anything to do with Munich and the A346 has ONLY to do with Munich. There won´t be A346 Ops at FRA anymore.
Also Lufthansa CEO Spohr revealed that they will use A340-300 to compensate the unavailability of 787-9.
I don´t know where you get your information from but I´d highly suggest to keep closer to official documents and clear(!) statements from members of the Lufthansa management!
They may bring back more than 5 A340-600's, given the delays on the 777-9.
I doubt it'd be brought back because of delays, since Lufthansa was actually glad for the wait.
I did fly an LH A346 from BOS to FRA back in 2010
woohoo cute a346 is back
A happy news finaly !
Could be a chance I fly on either an A343 or A346 from SIN-FRA in mid-September, as part of a trip to Thailand that I'm currently considering!
Yay! it’s back!
I like 340-600 very much. Very good news and... good flight!!
Around these months I saw the Lufthansa a340 many times in Haneda
This is fun news! I remember seeing Lufthansa A340's taxiing at Newark Airport when I was a child on a small plane going to Kansas or something. I imagined they were exotic.
I very much appreciate the A346 returning to service. It is my favorite plane, however, I last flew it in 2016.
Hope I can get on the 600 before she’s retired forever
I just flew on D-AIFD from YYZ-FRA. Never thought I would say this but the A340’s are starting to get dated and sort of cramped inside. It’s nice to these 90’s-00’s Quad engined airplanes back in the sky but with all these technology advances that even A380 would have, made the A340 look ancient. Not sure about the newer production A340’s built after the era of smart phones and tablets. The airplane was put into service in March 2001.
Cramped? The A340 has one of the best layouts a aircraft could have with 2-4-2 config in Economy. If you compare it to the 787 which was supposed to have 2-4-2 and now every airline puts 3-3-3 in there, the seat width is much bigger in the a340 or a330. I would rather not fly the 787 or the 777 which also has one more Seat in a row as it was supposed to be.
D-AIFD is an A340-300. This video is about A340-600.
@@GrafvonIsen I’m just talking about the A340 in general.
That's a welcome move....
Lufthansa is launching services this summer from my hometown of St Louis to Frankfurt! We're getting the A330
YAY! The A340s are returning! I am so glad! I Love A340s. They're my friends. I'm very pleased to hear the news of the A340s returning to service.🙂
I think it is because of the 787 and 777 delays that they had to reactivate them. Also the A340 is the only first class option from munich which is important there.
777-9 and a350 with first class which are due in 2023
Not likely, since Lufthansa s unbothered by the delays.
This is likely temporally like with 747-400 until their 777-9’s arrive
I think its for their 2023 a350s actually with first class suites that'll replace them
I only flew on one once. KUL to STN. Comfortable enough, but I thought underpowered. We took all of the runway at KUL and almost an hour to get to cruising altitude. On the the plus side I still like 4 engines on overwater flights.
Sounds like a 300. Was it a 600?
Very excited, let's get the world rolling again
yeyyyy the a340's are flying again yes
Not for long
bruh i know
a340's are pretty old
ITS BACK BAYBY 😱😁👍👏✈️
Hopefully It flies to O’hare so I can spot it!
Lufthansa flies everything
ive seen them landing in toronto! Today the star alliance livery a340 is landing today!
I am pleased to see these graceful birds take flight again. I suspect it will only be for the short term due to the additional costs of operating a 4 engine airplane.
Is this flying to D.C. because I am unable to find any info on Lufthansa official site
Fun Fact: This Was Posted When I Was Sleeping XD
Nice
Let's hope BA will bring back the 747!
Can't. They've all been scrapped
I'm really surprised that Lufthansa has this particular aircraft configured for only 297 passengers. Thought it would be at least 325+. 🤔
Passengers should be happy!
Lighter loads means better fuel economy. Which is a "make-or-break" point for every single route an airline serves.
First class takes up 40 economy seats space for just 8 first class seats. They also lowered the cargo capacity by having underfloor lavatories.
I just flew upper deck on LHs 744s & 748s three times this year already. After that experience, these birds are ho-hum.
Then imagine how ho hum a twin engined plane is...
I’m flying on this flight tomorrow
Wonderful news.
Only coming back due to 777-9 delays.
And are waiting for their 2023 a350s with first class suites
That excuse would work, if Lufthansa hadn't stated that they were fine with waiting.
Wonderful news
Yeeeaaaahhhhhh!!!!!
This plane is so huge man😭
Hope the A340-1000neo will be introduced
saw this at dulles, truly very long
Last flight on the LH 340-600 was Feb 13, 2020 SFO to FRA
ah man im so happy, when i will be able to i will try to get on one (since they are my favorite jet plane)
I used to flew that a lot
